If you aren't watching IPL: San Francisco Face Off, it has been announced today that two GSL events will be hosted at the IPL5 event projected to be in October/November.
GSL World Championship: A 5v5 show match between five of the best foreigners and five of the best Koreans.
GSL 2012 Code S Season 4: The Ro8 through the grand finals will be played in Las Vegas at IPL5.
More details about IPL5 will be announced on August 13th.

Well let's just hope they let GOM do all the production.

So two weeks of GSL in 1 weekend? Doesn't that negate the whole 'planning for your opponent' aspect of GSL?

Foreigner team:
Naniwa, Stephano, Thorzain, Scarlett, and Nerchio
Korean team:

Sounds fun! GOM events overseas are always interesting.
E: Man, I really don't think the format will be fitting. As others have pointed out, playing several rounds of GSL in one weekend is... well, it's not GSL-like at all. I take it back, I take it all back.
._. gom please save us

Wow that is awesome. The finals at Blizzcon had one of the sickest crowds I have ever seen.
Should be interesting to see how the round of 8 to finals format works though since these events are usually just for the weekend.

Whoo, a world championship.

Not scarlett. I'd say mana or maybe maybe major.

I whole-heartedly disagree with this. It might have been a scheduling necessity due to the WCS Korea taking up this entire month for GSL, but it really pulls the rug out from under GSL players who rely on week-to-week preparation like Mvp and Nestea, and favors streaky players like MarineKing.
...wait, this means MKP could win a GSL.
I'm suddenly torn.

If MKP makes the Ro8, he is also in IPL5. Meaning he'll be doing double duty.
Same with players like Polt, Alive, Taeja, Hero, etc.

I am not a fan of this.... You're going to sacrifice the entire entegrety of the GSL championship to host it here.... -.-
|
I'm really against this too.
There's a huge difference in just credibility between GSL and any foreigner tournament, and I think so much of that is the preparation aspect. Why can't it just be the finals?
|
I don't like this for the same reason as other people. It's a sudden, unnecessary change of format. The GSL just IS about the element of preparation and precision. This ruins that.

Nothing wrong with having some variety to the format. And it's not like GOM hasn't tinkered with their tournaments in the past, World Championship, Super Tournament, Blizzard cup etc. At least it's more likely to have a finals that isn't terribly one-sided due to one player coming up with well-prepared strats.

Interesting they are going all the way from ro8 to finals In two days. Seems like that is most of their revenue for code s

It's three weeks of GSL. Ro8 takes two days and then a week break for semifinals. Then the semifinals occur and the finalists get a week and a half to practice for the final.
It makes sense when you realize we only have four months left in the year and GOM still needs to do GSL4/5 an Blizzard Cup.

I'll like the crowd, but I'm afraid I wont like the (final) games. As many said, GSL = Preparation and this wont have much of it.
