Maybe that and the fact that IPL has constantly gotten worse since IPL3 adds up to it. Why fuck up GSL with a shitty IPL production. Even if Gom would do all the organizing for their RO8 there, it would leave a bad aftertaste.
I actually like these plans--it will be a cool change of pace.
Of course the GSL is known for its preparation-based format and people don't want that to change, but it's not permanent. I would hate to see a permanent change too, I think we need the GSL to stay as it is. But if they mixed in maybe one season of GSL per year that used this LAN format, it would be exciting.
Plus I don't think we can even say that it will affect the quality of the games one way or another. It's impossible to have a format that guarantees a good final, one side of the bracket can always be weaker, some players are weak in a match up, etc.
I am definitely finding a way to make it out to this event.
A lot of people are complaining that GSL is not really GSL if there isn't time to prepare. To them I say that GSL is the league where the best players in the world compete with one another. It's supposed to be the hardest tournament in the world. I think that variation is a good thing because it rewards more than one type of playing ability. Players that excel on preparation will be rewarded but not as much as consistently if there is variation in the format. I like the idea that no matter what kind of player you are, you aren't safe in the GSL. Idk, this sort of fits my model for the GSL even though it's counter-intuitive at first

Not at all ridiculous. My point is that just because something is more "awesome" one way, doesn't make it "better". I did this by presenting the extreme situation, just to showcase how his argument was useless in my eyes. A common technique in debates.

this is how my november 'to watch' list looks atm (some days may be a day off since i've adjusted for australian time zones) but the only 'free' weekend is 10-11 and that isn't 'late' november hrmm. would work out really well if 10-11 was ipl5 though, although i feel sorry for koreans if they play in code S as well as all the foreigner events haha
There is no way without pissing off fans they can stretch Season 4 out for three months. Especially considering that is one month longer than a usual season runs AND half the season will be condensed into three days at the tail end.
Even if it was just the finals, GSL would have to do the Up/Downs between the semifinals and finals so that there isn't a huge gap. If it's late November and the Ro8->Finals thing is still true, then the Ro32/Ro16 should be done by the start of October. Meaning a month and a half/two month wait.
Also would only give GSL one month to do season five and Blizzard Cup, which seems impossible.
