Winner will be your Random weekend tournament #632 Champion, not a GSL Champion.

Sad about this, terrible idea. The world championship is great, but ruining a top8 code S like this is not cool.

I get putting the finals in the foreign scene because it worked well in October but the RO8 and RO4? That comes across as poor planning that GOM realised that they can't actually fit everything into a year.

People seem to forget GSL is only spread out in time to maximise revenue for GOM. The opportunity to study and prepare for opponents in GSL is only a by-product of this, but is not the reason for the scheduling. GOM needs to spread out GSL in order to give themselves content to broadcast. GOM is facing increased competition within Korea from KESPA tournaments and so it needs to take the opportunities to maximise revenues. These two announcements are merely a consequence of GOM being a business.

Ummm, no. Scarlett DEFINITELY doesn't belong. Sase, KAS, Beastyqt, (whitera?),Major, Vortix, Sheth, Ret, TitaN, Mana, Lucifron, and so many others are better.

Love the world championship idea. The Ro8-Final though seems a bit more out of place and character. Just isn't the GSL, having to play Ro8-Final in a weekend.

If you aren't watching IPL: San Francisco Face Off, it has been announced today that two GSL events will be hosted at the IPL5 event projected to be in October/November.

GSL World Championship: A 5v5 show match between five of the best foreigners and five of the best Koreans.

GSL 2012 Code S Season 4: The Ro8 through the grand finals will be played in Las Vegas at IPL5.

More details about IPL5 will be announced on August 13th.

So the Ro8 to the Finals becomes somewhat of a gauntlet? That's changing the complexion and practice time quite a bit, but meh considering how many one-sided affairs we get. Good on IGN getting full value with their deal with GOM. Considering our scene shows the love I don't see why not.

Perhaps Monsieur J can be convinced to sponsor a separate, TRUE Ro8 tournament to be held later :D

I'm worried that the cramped nature of having three events in one weekend might be a bit too much, but as long as GSL manages everything, I think things will go alright. Nice to see this IPL/GSL partnership evolving this way.

My main worry with the GSL side is how much it changes the format of GSL, and makes it more of a weekend, ladder tournament. GSL is known for being the 2-3 month, methodical and preparing tournament, while crunching it into three days completely flips it around.

Hmm, stinks they have to squish it in all like that - but I guess its a good excuse for GOM to squish it in like this than any other way. Hopefully we still some quality games and a fair champion!
