Hey guys. I'm trying to find other couples that play starcraft! My wife and I aren't very good, but I still think it would be tons of fun to get together and play.

Hello, couples!
Welcome to my new blog dedicated to couples gaming, specifically Starcraft. It seems that there are a lot of couples that play MMOs together, but there doesn’t really seem to be a community for competitive couples gaming.
I will use the word “competitive” a bit frivolously, as I’m pretty bad. But who cares? What if we all stink. Think about a few couples getting together for a poker tournament. Maybe someone there doesn’t know HOW to play poker. But still, they all place their bets and fumble through it and have a great time.
In this era, why can’t Starcraft be our poker tournaments?So what if we stink? Maybe we’ll just get together for a no money, no prize tournament to have a little fun and grow the couples competitive gaming community. I’ve done a little bit of googling this morning and have found very little on there even being Starcraft couples in existence. I found a post on the Starcraft site asking if there are any other couples that play, and it got zero replies (actually, there was 1 troller who did reply).
So let’s start here! Sure, we’ll be small. Maybe I’ll find one couple here. And maybe you’ll find another couple, and that couple will find another couple. At some point, we’ll put together some brackets and have ourselves a little play tournament. What have you got to lose? 20 minutes or your life
And just a look to the future. If we do find some people interested, I’ll start a website, so we have a space for a little community. I’d love to have a real “in-person” tournament. We live in California, so maybe a big hub area like LA or San Francisco would be a good place to get some couples together to meet up and play some SC2! Ya know, maybe have Day9 come commentate or something. It would be fun!
All skill levels are welcome (my wife and I will probably be the lowest ranked team, so don’t worry about not being “good enough to compete”)

I like the idea, but feel the contents lacking. Can you tell us how it started? Why it started? How many people? Is there a specific reason it's around (charity i.e) or just for fun.
Loads of information, all lacking from the OP. Other than that, nice to see people bringing partners into SC2

Nemesis, I really appreciate your feedback. I'll need as much help as I can get if I want to successfully start something like this up. And you're exactly right, it does lack content.
Right now, it's just an idea, and I'm trying to figure out if there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile for me to dedicate time towards this. I thought about just going all in, getting a domain name and setting up a site and hope it worked, but I figured there's faster, easier, and cheaper ways to see if there's any interest.

Xietep: I think it's an interesting idea. I would suggest editing your original post to include the body of your blog post, though, so that people can get the whole picture of what you're suggesting before heading off to your blog.

This might be a good excuse to get my gf to start playing... 
We live in Socal as well. She bought me Sc2.. but sadly does not play. She did go to MLG Anaheim with me though.

My girlfriend watches pro matches with me and occasionally watches me play from time to time; she is interested in the game, but doesn't know too much about it (and didn't play/follow BW). However I could always convince her to give it a real shot if team Bambasia gets the opportunity to slay bodies.

yeah, imo this is the most important aspect of this league. It would be best if all of the players had to offrace and their partners (who don't play often) would play their main. Kinda make the game more close.

That's a fun idea, nemesis. I think adding a girlfriend/wife to the field would equalize the skills. Not to hate on female gamers, but let's be real, there aren't many female starcraft players. Learning to play with your significant other who may not know they game should be fun for both

I'd like to (i'm masters, girlfriend is gold) but we're ZZ which I hate in 2v2 and she's going away over the next month and then we'll be busy

This is a fantastic idea!
My gf and I were just talking the other day about couples and gaming in WoW. She's not into sc2, but I've never sat down and played it with her before. Maybe this will be what gets her into it =p

Sounds like a mixed doubles league at your local tennis club. I think it should probably be open to male/female teams and not just "couples" to be more inclusive, but then again I don't think that should "DQ" a same-gender couple from participating.
It's probably unlikely but unlike in tennis you can't really see who you're playing in SC2 so I guess some players could "troll" by signing up as a couple when they are in fact, not.
I think competitive opportunities for the casual player are very important to SC2, I hope this is successful.

I think Jessica actually played starcraft pretty competitively so she wouldn't be too bad.
Also I think Ret's girlfriend is at least a semi active player.

No it's not. Xietep has just done it.
"Starting a league" is such a vague term, and can mean anything--not just MLGs with 6 figure prize pools. I wish more people would take such an initiative.
Obviously, the point is to just have fun as a couple; playing SC2 2v2s is great way to do that. Anyone trying to sign up progamer-couples here is missing the point; Xietep doesn't want a 6k-viewers stream etc., just to reach out to other couples to have a friendly game here and there.

My girlfriend and I would probably be down for this, though her schedule is quite hectic for this month. We're both Zerg, playing as a ZZ team in 2v2s is pretty terrible IMO, so if there was some sort of alternative to that...

Nah, ZZ isn't a terrible combo. My wife and I were going ZZ for a while, but I'm pretty much equal skill at protoss as I am zerg, so we went PZ for a little better mix.

Best idea ever, now only if I could get my wife to play... She got stressed out during the tutorial mission for AOE3 when the crappy ai sent a scout over to bang on a farm, so I don't think this dream will come to fruitation.

If this actually happens, there should like be a webcam feed or something of the couple. So at least the main viewing screen can see the reactions/talking/chatter.

I think it would be awesome if you can find enough women and couples to play. Sadly my wife will most likely smash my laptop before she ever plays SC2. I think it would have pretty good entertainment value too if casted by the right people. Unfortunately I still hold the sexist view that military strategy throughout history remains a mostly uninteresting topic to the majority of women... Of course there are exceptions but this stereotype in my opinion remains mostly true. It's a shame with women's supposed knack for multitasking as they all claim are better than men at...

I could probably convince my BF to play, though we'd be one of those horribly off-balance couples; I'm bronze and he's diamond (and masters in random 2/3/4's). We 2v2 a fair bit, but it usually ends up with me playing stupid-safe to cover for him as he tries out some aggressive strategy.

Meg, gf is fine. Anything that can bring more women/couples to competitive gaming. Even if the competition is a bit lower level
