Hi Guys, I believe this July it will be almost exactly two years since SC2 was released. There have been some fantastic, really long matches, between pros. I did not see this topic anywhere else, so I thought i would start a thread.
What is your most epic/memorable/innovative game in SC2 history? Notice that I said innovative: There is a difference between a really long macro game versus a game that includes base trades and/or virtually every type of unit used and strategy.
I'm not a huge fan of TVT, but I'm attaching one of my favorites to give you an idea of what I'm looking for (it still gives me goosebumps watching it).
We all know the classics Huk vs Idra, voidray allucination MLG game but I'm sure there are more out there off the radar.
One of my newest favorites is the mass BC vs Vray, archon, Mothership in the GSL Code S finals season 2 (MVP vs Squirtle). I haven't seen such a fantastic game like that in such a long time.
The first time MarineKing demonstrated his now famous Marine splitting vs Kyrixx in the GSL Open Season 2, will remain as the greatest moment in Starcraft 2 history for me for probably the forseeable future.
This never really became common and Nestea only occasionally tries this, but I can't tell you how happy I was to see the FFE smashed to pieces in a time where Zerg were having trouble with it (Ace rolled IEM with Stargate + FFE). Also I like how Tastosis have no idea what Nestea is doing until the last second (I didn't either :D), and he completely hits the breaks on their typical banter xD.
This one definitely deserves it. Honorable Mentions: Kiwikakki vs Stephano game 3 on Shattered Temple Leenock vs Jjakji game 4(?) on Belshir Beach Winter And that one Ace vs Zerg game in which he turtles up on one base and then pushes out and gets the most perfect storms on Belshir Beach Winter.
I feel like archon toilet was a little bit better but this was the culmination of DRG's ridiculous comeback and MMA's amazing hold and it was game 7 so maybe a little bit better. not sure
Yea DRG vs MMA game 7 was also sick as hell. (Didn't want to take all the easy ones :p)
The rivalry between the two and the fact that it was game 7 in a series that started 3-0 for MMA then back to 3-0 for DRG only further signifies how evenly matched the two have been in the MU. Appropriately, it all came down to an incredibly close final game with MMA barely getting the better of DRG.
There's also Boxer almost coming back from a 0-3 to beat Idra in an extended series at MLG. Damn, he was so close X) If only he didn't let that ling see all his hellions... that was just a sloppy mistake.
Someone already beat me to it, but Squirtle > MVP on Metropolis. It deserves to be mentioned alot more times, I don't know if we'll ever see something like that again.
My favorite game had to have been the in the Dreamhack 2010 finals between Mana and Naama. That Zel Naga game where Mana had to long distance mine from his third and slowly break the bunker/turret/siege tank contain was awesome. In my opinion that was the best finals I have seen. A team kill and Mana going down 0-2 and bringing it back to the ace match made it epic.
Every game by Thorzain in the TSL3. To name a few, FD gging out, double forge vs fast infantry upgrades (vs Tyler), everything vs MC, and ofc the finals. Of course, I'm also fond of every other upset against the Koreans from that tournament.
The GSL where Sad Zenith became the upset champion. Too bad this isn't the full game, but I remember Nestea chose him in his group and SanZenith ended up kicked everyone's ass in his group to go on to the semi-finals where he lost to MC.
After watching San's matches, I was forever in love with SC2, the Casting Archon, and GSL.
This thread is making me fall in love with Starcraft 2 all over again. I have such a vivid memory of sitting in my room, at 6am, sitting on the edge of my bed watching sCfOu vs Nestea game 5. I remember cheering (silently) with Artosis and fist pumping and feeling like I'd witnessed starcraft 2 history...
I remember that same summer, watching ThorZain vs MC, game 3 (I believe) on Crossfire where ThorZain did a bizarre Thor-based build and made it look like he could possibly take the entire series, and I was blown away. I never thought that foreigners would be able to compete at the same level as the Koreans until I saw that game. I remember ThorZain vs Kas, in that same tournament, where every game was a showdown between two incredibly good TvTers on some of the best maps of the time. I loved watching every minute of it.
I remember being at work during DreamHack Summer 2011, and having to run to "clean the bathroom" often to check and see how Huk was doing in the championship bracket. I remember checking twitter only to see that everyone was flipping their shit over how Moon had six-pooled in the final game... I was amazed to find that Huk held it and proved again that foreigners can play with the best.
More recently, I remember watching HerO (my favorite protoss <3) duel with Puma in 7 games at DreamHack Winter, and ThorZain crushing Polt at DreamHack stockholm. I felt the same way watching those games as I did watching sC vs Nestea.
But during the final game between Slayers_Boxer and Slayers_MMA in the semifinals of MLG anaheim 2011, student vs teacher, master vs apprentice, the winner went on to take on MVP during his prime.
Boxer played one of the best series I have ever seen from him only for MMA to take it to another level finally overcoming Boxer on Shakuras Plateau.
The Moment: Boxer wishes MMA good luck and tells him he better win. He gg's out and then goes out on stage and they share a long embrace.
Ugh I wish I had reinstalled SC2 off the disk instead of off the web so I could watch old replays (before 1.3.3)(slow internet T.T). All I know is the replay is on Gamereplays.org and TLO opens Ghosts and has an epic nuke ending. Also the Terran he is playing against has purple unit colors.
I believe it was either Strelok, SeleCT, Sjow, Morrow or BratOK he was playing against. IF somebody that has EVERY game patch would so watch the replays then PM me which game it was so I can update this I would love you forever.

I remember downloading 2 TLO nuke games, one was a ladder one for practice and one was for a tournament. In the ladder one it was Cross spawns on Delta Quadrant and TLO goofs and does a 9supply. then goes all baller status 2rax ghost and snipes the opponents puny 8 marines while pushing his ramp. And it ends with TLO nuking the other dudes whole army at the xel'naga tower.
wow, not quite as epic as the pro matches that have been mentioned, but this was totally badass. "proxy gate with cannons? hm guess ill just proxy my 14CC" sick

Ya I forgot the Kiwikakki vs Stephano game. I remember that perfect vortex on shattered to come back. That was a awesome game!
still have to go with the nestea vs sc match game 5. the ending moments of that were so tense. also drg and mma of blizzcup game 7 is a close 2nd. im sure it wasn't the first time a terrna used tanks on those shakeuras rocks but mma was very very effective with them.
Blizzard Cup. It was the most insane finale to 2011, and game 7 was the best TvZ I had seen in a long time. The victory celebration was insane, and yes, I am a Slayers fan.
Mvp vs Bomber on taldarim first gstl final, artosis actually died twice in that game and mvp came back 70 supply vs the scariest player in the world at the time, and the following mvp vs squirtle, first legit use of mothership i think, and definite proof that mech is bad, but was awesome to see at the time. If only bomber had switched just a month earlier he would have known marauders are the worst waste of money of all time in tvt sigh..
Definitely this game. It might not necessarily be the best PLAYED game per se, but when you're talking about the most epic moment, you have to consider everything else that leads to it and what was on the line.
Being the last big tournament of the year, always having a big rivalry with each other, after going up 3 games, and then losing 3 games straight, and then even in the game 7 itself, after being ahead, and then behind, and ahead, just so much back and forth. Then that last moment when 6 broodlords are camping your production, and MMA only had a handful of marines and 2 vikings, omfg that was like the most epic moment ever of how he broke thru and then DRG gg's. I'll never forget.
White ra vs MC @ the GSL WC Dimaga vs MVP disconnect and regame @ GSL WC Dimaga vs Nestea@ GSL WC MMA winning his first MLG and the chants qxc all killing IM in GSTL Thorzain winning his dreamhack Boxer vs Rain TvT ending at MLG Kespa players meet MLG
The most epic game is definitely MMA/DRG battle for me, it was so back and forth, couldn't tell who was going to win until the end. The Mvp/Squirtle archon toilet was the most memorable moment, but the game was pretty much a turtle fest until the end. Keep the videos coming though!! ^^
Wow some great memories in here. Most of the code S finals have been epic.
For me it was game 7 of the last code s finals where MVP marine/scv rushed squirtle. It looked to be going terrible for him, till he pinched the zealot and I jumped right out of my chair screaming "kill him, kill him, kill that protoss bastard." :D MVP <3
As a Polt fan, I think I have to put this one forward: Game 3 of Polt vs DRG at Spring Arena II. Yes, it was not exactly the best game, or the prettiest, but I think it was worth watching for the equal footing both played at, and the final engagement which was truly EPIC.
The Thorzain vs MC series has to be the best SC2 series to date. A NOBODY NON-KOREAN BEAT MC THE GSL CHAMPION WITH MECH? WHATTTT. If any of you have NOT seen that series, at least watch the game on taldarim. Thats the most epic game ever.
But if mods choose to keep this thread up, the greatest moment in SC2 history is the ending of this game. Nothing will ever supass its epicness.
On March 23 2011 01:28 Mr Tambourine Man wrote: The old game from TT1 vs MasterAsia is one which I just can't ever forget. That ending is just so beautiful.
* Final game of the HDH invitational in beta, with TL going nuts over it * Tester vs Idra in Day9's King of the Beta tournament, with a level of play never seen before * Having so many foreigners in GSL #1 (Idra, TLO, Torch, Artosis) * The story of Fruitdealer and his championship * Huk winning MLG Raleigh * Idra winning MLG DC * Morrow 5rax-reapering Idra in the IEM final * Jinro making it so deep in Code S twice * Huk winning MLG Orlando *WhiteRa vs MC at GSL WC * Walking into Barcraft Sydney for the first time * DRG beating Genius in the GSL final when he looked so strong * Squirtles epic comeback against MVP in GSL, and the mothership/bc fight, and how that went to a final game.
This was the best series I've ever watched in SC2. This game in particular was my favourite. The scene where the ghosts ran in, cloaked, and EMP'D all the immortals was ... EPIC.
I haven't seen the best one posted yet. I can't remember who played, but it was a TvZ in the GSL where there was a CRAZY back and forth, the zerglings danced but then failed to clean up and the terran came back with an EPIC marine spread/push and danced his marines. I want to say it was a leenock game.
When Moon made up for the worst baneling landmines in history
Crazy TvT at mlg too
Other epic moments that I cant find a video for: HongUn makes the first carriers in GSL history TSL_Symbol completes the first ever all kill in GSTL history Nestea completes a perfect GSL Marineking vs PartinG pre-DC was going down as one of the greatest TvPs in sc2 history imo Mvp's 40 min 4 marine + medivac push vs Leenock on Dual Sight in GSL November where Mvp refused to die
When thorzain just won dreamhack, I thought it was pretty damn awesome even though I'm a huge polt fan.
I don't think anything can compare to the final moments of DH where thorzain won, everything was done PERFECTLY, there's NOTHING that would've made that moment any better than it was, i get teary-eyed whenever i watch that video..
So many talk about the marineking vs kyrix game on shakuras, but i feel like that was not even the best game in that series... If anyone has access to game 5 on xel naga caverns... Now THAT was a sick game... Also from the same season, boxer vs nada in the round of 8 comes to mind as a particular moment of epiness :D

its was bomber vs someone i think alica on lost temple close positions

mma is cornered, and micros his heart out while doing an unbelieveable tank drop that kills a ton of infestors lagging behind the closing in swarm. so sick.
The biggest moments for me are pretty predictable:
- NesTea v. SC game 5 - Squirtle's Archon toilet v. mass BCs - 5 quadrillion banelings v. 1 quadrillion thors - NesTea spine crawler rush - Leenock tech switches and builds 12 ultras at once v. Clide in open season RO 64, game 3 on Shakuras+ Show Spoiler +
- MKP's wonderful bio control vs. Parting in the first game (not the re-game) in the GSTL 2012 Season 1 finals. His control literally brought tears to my eyes. - Some Protoss that would flank with speed prism HTs and just decimate Terran armies. I forget the player and the games, but the image is still in my head, impressing me. - Nada taking off his jacket and destroying Leenock after he got beat by a 6-pool in Open Season 2, RO 16. - Fruit Dealer uses LOS blocker to his advantage in game five of the final v. HopeTorture on Scrap Station.
There are so many, many more and I may pore through more VODs later on, but I just want to say how great I think SC2 and our pro players are. I think this game has proven to be worthy of our attention and I really look forward to the wonderful moments yet to come!

Losira vs Bomber in GSTL? i guess it was epic in the sense that it was so back and forth and both players kinda gave up their leads for BM
On June 28 2012 12:46 tehemperorer wrote: My favorite was Jinro vs MC in one of the early GSLs, might be GSL open tourneys... the one where we get Jinro Messiah pic from that was so classic!
Oh, was that the game where he went mech on shattered temple, and used strike cannon to stun lock the immortals? The memories!
I thought another one was MC advancing out of his group of death 2-0 was absolutely amazing as well, especially with his defense of Squirtle 4gate...that shit was unreal; he lost power to several gateways and a robo thanks to an artosis pylong yet he STILL managed to hold off the attack and survive Squirtle's monstrous PvP even though MC's PvP is considered a weak matchup of his.
Maybe not literally top 10 most epic moments in SC2 history, but it's definitely up there methinks.
10000x this. The whole story of Jinro's double semifinal runs was amazing. The moment when he beat previous champion MC with mech was mindblowing. Jinro is still the reason I got into professional SC2 and ESports.
The greatest moment for any SC2 thing in my entire life was MC vs. Thorzain in TSL3. During that game I was loosing my shit jumping up and down in my room screaming at my computer, I will never EVER forget that game for as long as I live.
A big thx for this thread !!! I've only been through all the videos posted on the first page and yet there are already so many great moments of SC2 to enjoy
I guess if I was to pick one it would have to be either MMA's fail focus on his OC in his MLG game against Idra or Huk's victory over Moon in Dreamhack Summer 2011.

Seconded, this is definitely one of the top 3 best TvZ games ever played in SC2 (it was by no means perfect play but incredibly back and forth, with almost every unit in the game used)
1. IMMvp v ST_Squirtle @ 2012 GSL Code S Season 2 Finals. - The atmosphere, the tension, the build-up... This game had absolutely everything culminating with that incredibly ridiculous Archon Toilet on the Battlecruisers. I'll never forget this game.
2. IMMvp v oGsTOP @ 2011 GSL Code S August Finals. - This was the first game I ever watched of the GSL and it is by far one of the greatest there has ever been.
3. MarineKing v Kyrix @ 2010 GSL Open Season 2 - Watching MarineKing's micro during this game was mind-blowing. It makes me proud to be a Terran!
It's hard to choose, but I think that my favorite epic moments boil down to...
#1: Blizzard Cup Finals - Game 7 / MMA vs DRG on Shakuras.
-That whole entire game in itself was an epic moment. The build up, the rivalry, the 3-0 to 3-3; it all came together incredibly. One of the only finals I bothered to watch live. It was worth the lost hours of sleep.
#2: TSL3 Finals - Game 6 / Thorzain vs Naniwa on Crossfire.
-Looking back, this was the first tournament I watched and I really had little knowledge of Starcraft 2. This moment wasn't as epic as I originally believed it to be, but that can just be attributed to I guess being more of a casual viewer at the time. Basically, Nani has a proxy pylon by Thorzain's natural, and Thorzain looked dead. But then he picked up his marauders in his medivacs which popped out at optimal timing and saved him. I had counted him out because the score was 3-2. For me, an awesome moment.
#3: GSL Finals - Game 1 / Top vs MVP on Daybreak / MVP thor + ghost drop
-Not much has to be said here. I didn't watch it live, I just watched the VOD. Absolutely insane. It made me an MVP fan for sure.
MMA vs DRG Blizzard Cup Game 7 I've always loved TvZ, and this game had one of the most intense build-ups and backstories in SCII history. Also helps that they had the best TvZ and ZvT out there, and played an amazing macro game. MVP vs Squirtle, GSL S2 Game 7 Who the fuck marine-SCV all-ins in the last game of the GSL Grand Finals? My mouth was open the entire game.
What about Polt vs Stephano at Assembly i think it was? the metalopolis game where stephano baneling busted and it turned into a insanely fun game to watch with all the constant battleing and marine microing going on, one of my favorites !

MKP vs Kyrix is probably my favorite TvZ of all time because it is THE game that defined MKP as the king of marines. The game that popularized Marine Splitting.

...and at the time it was so revolutionary, pretty much making only marines against banelings.
1 rax marine expand into crazy epic base trade with floating buildings and down to the wire plays... this is why I love MKP. And the fact that it happened vs Nada is even better :D
As a massive kyrix fan I have to say the night I stayed up to watch my fave player at the time who I thought was about to show the world a brand new revolution of playing Zerg vs Boxer... My jaw literally dropped at how amazing that game was. Not just the marine splits but literally kyrix who at that time was showing the world a brand new way of using delayed gas banelings to specifically destroy terran's getting owned by someone making pure marines. It was a match made in heaven, it was marine king vs baneling king it was oh so epic!

While that was definitely the best game of the series where it was literally down to the fucking wire--I can't tell you how much joy overwhelmed my senses when Kyrix roflstomped MKP on Steps of War. It was a complete reversal and shit literally got so real for me at that moment!
Now in truth, game 2 was a successful baneling bust flipping the aggressor/defender dynamic at the time on its head and it was my fanboyism that made me feel that.
Game 5 was also their most honest game and it was a nail biting finish.
But game 1 literally changed the sc2 scene completely.
one of my favorite moments was fruitdealer roflstomping rainbow. no game in particular. just the fact that zerg was badly underpowered and terran OP, and fruit dealer who had to quit gaming for a while when his dad got sick to help sell fruit, through a combination of luck and skill managed to tear his way through brackets and win all that money. still brings a tear to my eye.
There have been so many epic moments in sc2 in the last couple of years. Most of them I have forgotten but this thread is bringing those memories back.
GSTL a couple of days ago between NSH and TSL. Game 6 Symbol v Sculp. Check out the GOM Vod if you didnt see the game. That for me was the greatest TvZ win i think i've ever seen, and made even greater considering the current metagame and just how hot Symbol has been

This guy is definatly the man ! He is still the most impressive player of all Sc2 time to me ! His background , his playstyle , his results and the way he did all that at a period where zerg was very hard to play ! oGsCool aka a Fruitdealer gave me the Most Epic Moments in SC2 History !
In my book, and it will stay the most awesome moment in my book for all years to come, it is the birth of the marine split! The best about it was that the casters were like "kyrix has this, there is no way marineking (foxer) can engage cost efficiently with his unit composition" and went like "omgomgomgomg, did you see that? is that even allowed? how does he do that?"
Blizz cup finals: Mma vs DRG game 7. So epic. My gf who doesn't even follow Starcraft sat down and watched this one with me, and she loved it! It was a very touching moment to have the crowd cheering on the runner up in the closing ceremony.
Naniwa vs nestea blizz cup. Lol the drama. The rivalry between these 2 is truly entertaining.
Can't remember who was playing, but it was during an mlg, and so epic that husky lost his voice during the cast! Lol
Boxer vs rain mlg. Battle for the skies.
Boxer vs ? In Gsl, where he hides all his Vikings And then dropship bombs his opponents tank line, forcing him to gg. I think it was ganzi? If anyone has link of this would love to see it again!
This will forever be one of my absolute favorite esports memories. So amazed at the canadian crowd and how Stephano got EVERYONE dancing :D best NASL finals ever
As the guy who shot that video. I can totally agree with that sentiment.
I'm trying to get a Crowd POV Video thread going because it is obvious that the stream audio and video did not convey the atmosphere and intensity very well.
I'm obviously biased in terms of "Greatest Moments" since I was there live, and that makes a huge difference. But I will say that Thorzain's victory at Dreamhack Open: Stockholm is still way up there for me.

Thanks for upping that video PhothreeniX, I used it earlier today to show a friend the epicness he missed because he went to bed. Best tournament ending ever.
Onebasiwa's CHILL GET OUT moment Thorzain's game 5 vs MC, when Master Jane steamrolls MC with mass thor which nobody thought was possible that Rain vs Boxer game when at the end there was a mass viking-raven-bc battle, possibly still the most developed tvt i've ever seen MVP's quad nuke in Top's base Thorzain's Dreamhack moment, when he finally managed to beat Polt and was overwhelmed by emotions, while Lose my mind was playing, this was really cool the end of that game, HuK vs Idra that resulted in: HuK: u realize HuK: those were halluc Idra: !"%"§ off HuK: LOL HuK: just sayin HuK: u weren't loss MMA killing his own orbital, idra gging half a minute later when MMA had no marines left and Idra is left with like 20 mutas and everyone was silent cuz of amazement Nestea's spine crawler rush vs anypro Thorzain saying "gl hf" in a game
I haven't been able to find the VOD, but... Sheth vs San Code A round of 16(I think?) Game 3... This game is why I never count Sheth out.. Some of the sickest holds...
If anyone finds it, it would be much appreciated!
I also enjoyed Jinro's nuke against Oz @ one of the MLG's.. it was instant GG lol so cool
