What this game needs isn't darker colors, but brighter ones. I'm not talking about rainbows and ponies here, but as a spectator friendly game, it should aim to be as easy as possible for everyone to always see what units belong to who, and thus what exactly is going on. Thats why there are mods out there that makes colors brighter instead of darker.
Diablo 3 on the other hand is borderline singleplayer, and certain people might want the experience to be as dark and gritty as possible. I see nothing wrong with that. But I don't think it will work for sc2.
edit: Also, yes. While Blizzard probably wont mind, I think this breaks their EULA. Please put a warning in the OP.

Seriously? I've always thought SC2 was always too dark as it is. Someone come up with a bright mod please.
|
I think the game looks good as is, but this would be fun to try sometime! On the other hand, I cannot FUCKING STAND that stupid team color mod. It is the most ugly loathsome looking thing, and there is a special place in hell reserved for the casters who don't turn it off before streaming tournaments.
|
You want it to be more dark? I think its already dark enough, I can't tell shit of a difference between units in a battle, especially in ZvZ.
Though there will always be some people who think SC2 looks too bright or cartoony...
|
It makes the game look bad.
|
I love my sc2 all bright and shit, I actually veto maps that look dark and ugly. I'll play any vibrant map even if it's imbalanced as hell against me. So I guess this change isn't for me but thanks for giving the community options!
|
It's cool for screenshots, but I don't like it for actual playing.
BW was pretty bright and clear back in the day. I wouldn't like desaturated colors making things harder to discern.
|
It looks pretty good but I am playing on lowest graphics because it helps me spotting invis units better. I actually think darker looks much better since it makes the game feel more serious
|
Of all the problems with sc2, one of its finer points is it's looks. The graphics engine is perfect, the effects are awesome and each race has really distinct art. I personally wouldn't want to change it, but it's nice to see people care enough to do this stuff.

Personally, SC2 is already too dark. The glut of 9PM lighting on dark blue and green maps is horrible for spectators and for the legacy of starcraft.
|
The one thing about D3 i dont like is that its so incredible DARK. I m not a fan of that, I hope we can get a D3 lighter mod once its out!
|
SC2's problem is less the colors and more the art style. Same with D3. Both have far too cartoony a look considering how seriously they take themselves.
|
Honestly couldn't tell the different until I reached the third picture
|
I think this mod is a great idea for dulling the over-bright HDR/Bloom effects.
I aksed a while ago if there was a tool to turn down the bloom /HDR, looks like this mod will achieve a simialr thing but will also darken the rest of the map.
Might have to try it. Thanks OP ! xD

This seems like more of a cosmetic thing that you can replicate by going into your gpu setting
Correct me if I'm wrong.
|
if you have a nice monitor you can just change your gamma and other settings to get the same desired result. I suppose if you don't want every application effected this would be ideal. But I feel like if someone wants this they want everything to look more like that, and then gamma and other monitor settings would be ideal IN MY OPINION.

Very cool.
I don't see why people are so mad at this existing. It's optional, it doesn't hurt you at all.

Everyone loves things to be "darker" these days. It's almost as bad as the blue/orange tinting in movies - it's like a freaking epidemic.
You know, you could play the "darker" version of SC2 for a month or so and someone could come along with a mod that made it just a little darker and people would think that thing was more gritty and cool looking too. Hell, you could even go and play the dark SC2 for a long time, and then someone could say "Hey, check out this mod where I blow out the colours" and you'd think "Wow, awesome, it's so bright and vibrant" while you were actually playing the original SC2 colour scheme. The "new" thing is always "cool" to some - even if it's shit.
I mean, it's fine if you wanna switch it up but I certainly don't think it's an improvement on the art of the game.

you can adjust this on most monitors
