Doesn't make too much sense to me, just let players play whatever games they want and the sponsors will follow. Seems a bit cynical to say which games players and leagues should play in the name of esports.

KesPa is really the only one forcing people to not play SC2 , blizzard wasnt stopping anyone from playing SC2 if flash wanted to he could wait out his contract and join IM

only thing blizz did is prevent KeSpa from using SC2 in tournaments since KespA and Blizzard have usch a bad history

KeSPA prevented OGN and MBCGame from having SC2 tournament. But players were free to leave their BW team to play SC2

That's basically the same thing though. They were saying the players could go and play a game without any history, structure or regulations and so without any guarantee they could make a living as a progamer off of it. The players that had something to lose wouldn't switch, of course.

How is it same thing? KeSPA didnt stop anyone from going to SC2. It was the players choice to either stay and earn a salary or leave and take a risk in SC2 where KeSPA had nocontrol over

So basically because KeSPA does not pay them when they are obviously playing non Kespa supported game it forces them to stay?

Kespa did revoke progamer licenses when people switched over. I remember Nada had his progamer status canceled and couldn't participate in Kespa events for 3 years.

interesting that LoL is taking over a completely different genre, that would be like cs people fearing starcraft2 will take over their game.
As a sponsor i would think twice if i would want to invest into a game that is free 2 play, rendering alot of the audience useless for most products.
And if every sponsor would go after numbers no one would actually care about rts games, as rts games compared to other genres have a small playerbase.
Of course competition is bad for grabbing sponsors though. But personally i don't fear a game that has to be mainly sponsored by the creator over such a long time. Especially knowing what games are coming in the near future.

I can't see this ending well to be honest, Starcraft 2 just never took off.

Most think it has, what with the large amount of tournaments and such.

Don't be cynical. I'll just sit here and hope that whatever happens it's good for all of us.

Also, I don't really know why there is BW vs Sc2 going on in here..it's unfounded

...No, what I'm saying is that by KeSPA not picking up SC2 they were essentially making BW the only sustainable game on a professional level, at least while SC2 didn't build its own scene. It doesn't matter whether KeSPA forbid players to leave or not, for the time being BW was the place to be if you wanted to make a living as a progamer. That's why I said only players with not that much to lose switched over, because the ones with something to lose didn't have any reason to make the switch, and still don't, because KeSPA is still the most successful and sustainable organization in competitive gaming.

He would never do that, because he doesn't live in a cave and realizes starcraft 2 is the future.

Thats actually what have happened. CS 1.6 is on a really heavy decline right now and this year will most likely be the last year of competition. Not that many tournaments with the game anymore and the few tournaments that still has the game don't put any focus on it because it doesn't attract sponsors or that much viewers any longer and therefore a shitty prize pool.

Sponsors like Intel, AMD and other PC companies put their money into SC2 instead because it attract alot of viewers and they can advertise their new GFX and processors that make a difference in a game like sc2, not so much in CS 1.6 since you can play it on like any PC out there today that is still alive.

And more and more pillar profiles in that community have retired recently and some teams have cut their CS division or is going to in the near future already. Teams just don't profit enough by paying salaries and shipping 5 guys around the world for almost no money to win.

And now when 2012 seems to be the year of League of Legends CS will get even less attention. CS would have died soon enough anyway but Sc2 2011 gave it a big fat push over the edge alright.

Don't a lot of OGN commentators do multiple games? He could do both.
