I can't believe everyone is being such a little kid about this, can't believe orb lost his "job" because of this. Orb didn't even know who he was playing and saying that what he said was racist is just dumb, it's obviously because he was raging (as he is known to do). I know it's silly to compare players to casters, but Idra has a long history of BM and it's fine.

Hopefully people're sending them GJ letters to EG's sponsors... It'd suck if a premier ESPORTS team like EG got hobbled because of this.

Since there are so many opinions flying around and hard to keep track. let's see what's the majority SC2 community thinks of this incident
Poll: Fair or not Fair?Fair- He even lied about Friend using his account (40) 52% Unfair- They were over 1year+ before he talked to EG. He separate professionism and personal rage (20) 26% Unfair- Everyone makes mistake, words were not used in racial context. (11) 14% Fair - No one should use these words no matter what, community should act upon it (4) 5% Fair- even if it really was his friend using his account, he had been caught using those words (2) 3% 77 total votes Your vote: Fair or not Fair? (Vote): Fair- He even lied about Friend using his account (Vote): Fair- even if it really was his friend using his account, he had been caught using those words (Vote): Fair - No one should use these words no matter what, community should act upon it (Vote): Unfair- They were over 1year+ before he talked to EG. Poll: What if you were Alex? Let Obs go? (30) 46% A temp ban? (27) 42% Support him and release a public statement on your reasoning (8) 12% 65 total votes Your vote: What if you were Alex? (Vote): Let Obs go? (Vote): A temp ban? (Vote): Support him and release a public statement on your reasoning
My opinion on this matter isn't so important, but I honestly agree with Alex that contacting the Sponsors is a really bad move from the community. Please in the future, don't do that because you didn't even give a chance for EG to explain themselves and what they would do about it.

This is why Orb's apology is bull shit

He lied, and he has not apologized for that once. Orb, man up and admit you lied to everyone just to try and save your self, maybe then this will seem sincere.

Cool then you used other insults. Who cares. You cant tell me you never raged and insulted somebody in your life. Insults are there to be offensive to the person youre talking to. If its racist, sexist or whatever who gives a shit. Did you ever see a racial tension of orb on his Stream when he was casting ESV games? No. As it is for every other cast ive watched by him. What makes you think youre above a guy who used some insult 4-5 times. What makes you think you should be his judge altough you have no clue or real reason to be offended. What makes you think you should end his career and basically kill him publicly because of a stupid thing like this. He didnt do anything wrong during professional casts. Thats what matters. Youre the pathetic one here buddy. I believe it is you who shows himself to be the pathetic one here. This is neither an end to his career nor 'basically kill[ing] him'. And I think you will find that out in the real world, most people over the age of 15 have not felt the need to insult someone by reffering to them as black, or asian, or jewish, or a faggot. Isn't it easier for orb to behave professionally (or even just with maturity) than for everyone he encounters/interacts with to change their behaviour to accommodate him? How many times should we let someone act like a bigot in the public arena, albeit not during their work hours, before we are allowed to think less of them? The answer for me is one time. Live and learn. Don't expect the world to change for you, adjust your own behaviour so that you can exist in it happily. If that means you can't act like a dick, even in 'private', to pursue your desired career, accept that fact or do something else.
So he didnt just lose his job thanks to you people? You think with the reputation youre trying to give him here, he will get another shot as a caster? Ah and now youre setting an age limit of using insults. I mean really? youre the one to set this up? He has done those things in the past when he was not a caster. So why would you care. Because he was older then 15? seriously? Tell me. Then again youre setting yourself above him and you somehow take the right to judge him. Without knowing him. Acting like youve never done something wrong. Get this mate. Everbody does things wrong sometimes. And would you find it fair that because you wrestled with your brother as a small child, people accuse you of being a agressive violent idiot, make it public and you get fired? Pretty fair since you should live and learn shouldnt you. I mean if you didnt want to lose youre job, you just shouldnt have wrestled with your bro back then. I mean you couldve thought about the consequences or couldnt you?
Then you say something like dont try to change the world, buckle under and adjust. Nice Statement mate. What does it have to do with the topic again? ah right.. And you call me pathetic? haha.

So its ok to call someone a slanty eyed gook, just as long as your aren't sure they are of asian descent? Or if you do it in anger? But in your view calling someone out for acting like a dick is worse than the act of being a dick?

I'm in no way offended by a person writing "nigger" cause of rage in a ladder match. What i'm offended with though are Orbs statements surrounding this incident (namely "everyone uses it", "first screenshot was REALLY not made by myself", etc.) As somebody wrote in this thread: There are tons of people waiting to get a shot at casting tournaments, so we are not in need of a caster that does not know how to behave.
|
don't worry, i think you are already forgiven by most of the community. i think it's pretty lame of eg to fire you. this whole controversy did not reflect back to them at all.
|
Hopefully orb can find a good way to put this behind him, and eventually earn the respect of the community. I think everyone in the community who are or want to be a public figure must realize that certain words are not replaceable. Some words have such a history that that they cannot be separated from the hurt that they have caused. Maybe you have friends who you can talk to like that and they understand the context and it is OK, but the public isn't in you're personal group of friends. Some people have had those words (nigger and faggot are, i think the two primary examples) screamed at them while being assaulted or denied basic rights. You can't separate words from there meaning.
|
Really EG? I don't even like Orb, but this decission is just mind blowing. I lost all respect for EG.
|
|
I'm not buying it
You don't watch someone spend 2 years raging like an infant an cussing people out on a personal level while playing a game, then deny saying stupid shit ingame, and just be a cocky mole in general, and then believe that they can extend some degree of a "sincere apology"
If this apology was sincere it wouldn't have taken half of reddit to get him to admit what he did what wrong
I'm just sick of orb, maybe in a couple months I'll watch him, and if he's stopped acting like a 14 year old I'll change my mind, but until then it's curtains from me
|
Hmm so the original story still stands? Orb never lied? I thought this got so big because orb lied.
This whole situation sucks so bad.
|
I know for a fact he's still lying about 'his friend going on his account'. Own up Orb, or are you too scared? I will accept your apology when you tell me the whole truth, but until then I hope nothing goes right for you and that your SC2 career is OVER! I'll give you 24 hours to tell me the truth, otherwise get out and never come back.

My point was, act like a dick and expect to be treated like one. Yes everyone makes mistakes, and at some stage those mistakes are going to be more than can be passed off as stupidity in youth. Orb is 23ish, that makes him at least 21 when he said these things, in most countries that means hes considered an adult and should understand his actions have consequences - especially the stupid ones.
If orb feels he was fired unlawfully by EG thats something he can follow up on his own. A better idea would probably be to try and move on from this incident, and I am not suggesting that means he stops trying to be a professional caster if that is his desire. In the end though, he lost a job - not the first person in the world to do so, and certainly won't be the last, and I doubt its 'basically kill[ed] him' to use some of your own brilliant hyperbole.
And all this 'no right to judge others' bullshit is kind of hypocritical given your whole post dedicated to judging those who judge orb... although the subtleties of that may be lost on you.
|
Keep your head up Orb! You'll land a place in a less self-righteous environment. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone, at some point in life, has done something they didn't intend to do or wouldn't do in a normal state of mind. Even @bigotsareneat.
/unfollow @bigotsareneat
I think the biggest issue I have with this is other members of Team EG do this all the time, while representing EG and get a reprimand at worst. While Orb gets fired for things that happened before because ottersareneat has a degree in black studies.
I've never seen your casts before but people seem to like them a lot, keep up the good work!
|
Your immaturity comes back to haunt you. This is a good start though, people can make mistakes.
|
its sucks that it came back to bite you in the ass when you did it ages ago. Hope you continue casting!
|
Maybe you will think before you speak. Nice cover up story , I don't believe you.
|
Where is this friend who used his account? Why doesn't he come on and tell us he used Orb's account and he's sorry for it and the harm it's caused Orb?
