Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Bans will be handed out.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

Considering the quality of competition MLG has been churning out in their last few events, $20 is a small price to pay IMO for 3 days of live competition with 5 different streams. I wouldn't be surprised to see the first PPV Arena not have a impressive viewership, but once people realize not only the amazing games they'll have missed, but the stories that develope at MLGs they'll be regretting their cheap, stingy decision to not pay.

Sounds like a bad business plan that hurts alot of the current viewership and popularity making it alot less enjoyable for those watching it.

MLG is a big business with many sponsorships, multiple games available to them to make tournament money off of, and have merchandise, silver/gold memberships, and other respectable assets that generate them cash. My point being if you're gonna pay the 20 bucks to, ''support esports'', you aren't actually doing so. In fact, MLG is being quite ridiculous to not atleast bump the prize pool alittle more. I don't care if they pay 100k for the players travel costs, that's nothing compared to the amount of money they collect from just one championship event.

So you think MLG is just rolling in money? Are you kidding me? You know it costs money to run events. Prize pool is only a small amount compared to the operating costs.

Yes they do

You're clearly an idiot. They wouldn't be in this business if they weren't making a buttload of cash on it. I love how people look at MLG as if it's an nasl or an ipl. This is not an upstart.

Do you know how venture capital works? It DOES NOT equate to money in their pockets

and the thing that's awful is even with probably 60% of the people not doing it, they'll still make more money than usual and continue to do it.

You're the idiot here. Venture Capital is not income. You don't make a profit from venture capital.

Plus, the only upstart here is the NASL. IPL has Newscorp and IGN backing it.

Thank you. Its hilarious that people think Rupert Murdoch signed off on the IPL because he 'loves' e-sports. The sc2 community is getting worse by the day.

There's just no way I'm paying for this. $20 a weekend?
I can pay for an entire year of pretty much everything the GSL has to offer for the same price. No thanks. Plus, the GSL streams their stuff for free. [FORFREE]

ROFL. $10 miilion doesn't go far when you do everything MLG does. Prize pool is seriously nothing compared to the operating costs MLG has. Don't you remember, MLG just laid off a ton of people. Why? Cause they couldn't continue to afford them. They had to become leaner.

A buttload of cash. No one is making a buttload of cash in eSports dude. Fuck man, at least IPL has IGN/Fox backing it. Oh man you are naive.

Don't forget the referral program guys!

If for example day9 gets a share of it people will happily pay the 20$, pretty "smart" from MLG.

Casters make enough money as it is. Tastosis will get more money that weekend than most of the players.

I won't be buying this. It just isn't worth it. Maybe if I had never watched an mlg. But I wouldn't have payed for the old format which I found much more exciting.

Also I really dislike that steam viewer. I looked for 10 seconds to find a fullscreen button but no luck. Maybe I just didn't see it, but still.

And if I wasn't convinced enough: EXTENDED SERIES.

If there is anyone who actually deserves my money, its MLG.

Poeple need to stop acting like they are entitled to shit that cost a lot of money to run.

Also, 20 bucks a weekend is what most people spend at single movie/dinner at the theaters, let alone getting something for your gf/bf for valentine's day if you are into that. If anything needs to be discussed, it's the viability of MLG doing PPV, not the cost.

I'm not against paying but when I put 2 days for $20 up against the $15 GSL light ticket for ~2 months of content it's an easy choice to make. Combine that with Assembly being on the same weekend and I'm not likely to forgo sleep to watch Starcraft for 72 hours straight so I think I'll just stick with Assembly. Again, I have nothing against a price I just think it's a bad comparison to competitors at an especially bad timing. Also feel bad for the shafted MLG Gold members.

Yep. Make it 5$, and almost everyone would buy it plus you get A LOT of viewers. Even 10$ would be somewhat reasonable, even though on the verge.

20$ is just way too much in comparison to all the other leagues.

Dunno, like this it's just a random 32 player event with Assembly happening at the same time. Poor, poor timing, seriously. Also, 20$ is quite a price point.

Not the point. Supply and demand rule and here we have two sources of supply, one free and one at a hefty price (especially in comparison to free). People are just pointing that out, that's actually concern for MLG speaking.

Sundance is talking about growing esports. A lot of esports fans dont follow one single game, they watch and follow several games. Esports is not only sc2! You think ppl will be paying 20$ for every major event for every game they watch? He is certainly not helping esports by making this event exclusive.

Why should we support MLG, when the fact of the matter is they give <10% of their revenue to the players. In the NFL, NBA, Tennis, etc, the players are near 50% of the revenue in salaries and compensation.

MLG is having it both ways, they haven't paid even 100k in prize money to SC2 players in their history, and they want $20 from each of the viewers now and being the most costly tournament around?

If you want SC2 to be a success, giving that $20 directly to the players will do alot more for SC2 than giving it to MLG. MLG will give only 1 or 2 of that 20 to the players.

personally i dont mind paying to watch sc2 as i paid for the first 3 seasons of GSL, but i feel like nobody i know will be watching it so i wont be buying either. also theres so many other tournys out there who can put out the same level of production as mlg for free.
