Most do not have a clue of the costs to orgs.. James Lampkin @Kennigit To give a better picture of online ad serving, The NFL was selling their online stream ads (3.1 mill viewers) for mid six figures. Sundance DiGiovanni @MLGSundance Again. You're awesome as a community but there aren't enough of you for advertising to be enough. That's the truth. Just a few tidbits from Twitter. Concerning Sundance's tweet, in my opinion if that is true then mlg won't be putting on sc2 tournaments much longer, Plexa said earlier in the thread that there may be an over saturation of tournaments and if MLG bites it then that's just how it will be. Not like we don't have other tournaments to follow.

It's not awful, it's Supply and Demand. They are taking all the good storylines/Amazing players, and the people with the money to watch it will, at a fair price.

Not because I think $20 is too much money, but because I hope PPV is not the future of 'esports'. I hope that the future of esports is more of a mix or free and premium content. Instead of making this event PPV, I'd suggest making this event AND the online qualifiers a mix of free and premium content. (ie During the qualifiers making the HD paid) Also I think PPV gives nothing the to growth of esports.

forcing people to pay for something that once was free is retarded, plain and simple. this move will hurt MLGs bottom line and they will regret ever doing it

Doubtful, MLG have made it pretty clear just how much of a boost starcraft gave to MLG, even if he says there isnt enough for us to make it proftiable ad wise, I imagine its sure as shit better than what it was before, much like blizzcon last year inc omparison to years before.

Oh wait, you mean the korean scene is incredibly small, players don't get salaries, teams need more sponsorship and are making deals with foreign teams to get money? And they can only play in tournaments outside of GSL if their trip gets paid for? So GOMs format isn't really growing the scene much is it?

Definitely not enough to be self-sustainable. They're not making money. At worst they're losing it.
