Yes yes yes!

I feel so alone when I log =/

Clan support and automated tournaments are the single most important thing I wish for (though I wish for every single feature the OP talked about)

I'll still never understand why they took a system that worked perfectly fine within the context of multiple games and tweaked it until it was a shitty ghost of its former self and then tried to shove it down our throats like it was an epic upgrade.

Very much this. It's like the case of the name change where Blizzard was surprised that people still wanted the ability to change their name without having to buy an entirely new game- Yes, yes we do. But there's only so long that one can talk about a problem that is on some list somewhere.

There's so much that Blizzard used to include in their games that for some reason they decided to take out because Battlenet 2.0 was supposed to be so awesome that we wouldn't even want LAN? Less features than Battlnet 1.0 is not so awesome. Shared replays seems like a pretty simple thing, but right now you have to keep resynching talking through Teampspeak if you want to do the same thing.

I agree too. There could be so many neat tools to really keep you engaged. Not to add to the already huge list that roam these forums (OP included) such as shared replay and clan support, but even something like:

Additional tools (ESPN Style) for casters would rock. Imagine a caster being able to draw lines and arrows on the screen. “MVP is really trying to push hard on the 3rd expansion (drawing an arrow) while leaving this part of his base (circling the area) vulnerable.

Or staying more connected with friends when you are playing 1vs1. I always feel so alone when I’m playing 1vs1. If you could still maintain your party chat or even have a mini-window streaming of your buddy so you could see what the hell he’s doing and talk smack to him when he screws up.

The possibilities are endless, and I think as someone else pointed out would help retain SC2 players.

This has all really been said before, but I have a huge amount of anger and frustration due to this. When I started playing Starcraft 2 I had no RTS experience and started with a group of about 10 friends I have gamed with, most of them i've gamed with for 4+ years minimum.

We quickly discovered how trash the system is, they were mostly UMS players(custom map games like nexus wars) and they all started to quit the game. The reason for them quitting was because of how bad the custom map system is compared to Warcraft 3 which is where we came from mostly.

They all ended up quitting the game because of how hard it is to make friends due to having to have some stupid character code and no /friend add function, how trash the chat system is, it just feels fail. The biggest thing of all here though that made my friends quit is the popularity system, maps on the first and second page stay popular and newer maps get no attention.

There are so many great custom maps that do NOT get played because of how stupid this popularity system is, for example my friends enjoyed greatly RTS style maps like Azeroth wars Strategy on Warcraft 3. These type of maps do not get played for the simple reason of the trash popularity system, this makes my friends angry because they grow tired of the same maps all the time. No chance to try new maps because if you need 8+ people its hard to gather that much on friends alone to play it and usually you want to be able to play consistently.

That being said I was one of the people who liked to play warcraft 3 somewhat competitive and watched BW as much as I could. So when Starcraft 2 came out I played on the ladder and was determined to get to Grandmasters, almost all of my friends I have played with, some up to 10+ years of gaming with ended up quitting. This left me alone practicing alot of Starcraft 2 with none of my long-term friends. I reached Grandmaster and realized that all of my friends had quit, which makes it hard to want to continue playing this game.

I 100% blame Battle.net '2.0', Trash Custom maps systems, absolutely retarded popularity system, extremely hard to socialize and make friends especially with garbage excuses of chat rooms. This is the main reason I hate battle.net, not even to mention no watching replays with friends, no clan support, no name change. Battle.net '2.0' is garbage and I have lost a lot of faith in blizzard.

Blizzard is going in such a terrible direction it frustrates me, I love starcraft 2 and it is the best game I have ever played and I have such a passion for it, but Blizzard makes me frustrated a lot of times.

Edit: Not even to mention the fact that Warcraft 3 had automated tournaments for portraits in it, Starcraft 2 doesn't it is just quite sad../end rant

basic in game chat functionality could be improved too.

If I'm a ref I should be able to toggle spectator chat as default, not have to ctrl+enter or vice versa.

I don t understand why Blizzard never changed all those things and I completely agree with all your points!
There is so much that is missing... Especially watching a replay with someone else. I want to be able to watch replays with other players! Blizzard! Make it possible!

I dont know if this has been suggested/done, but this should be posted on the bnet forums as I feel like it would get more attention from blizzard there. Regular bumps and chimes of agreement would ensure that it hangs around and gets a lot of views (blizz and otherwise).

that said, I completely agree. Especially your points about the cool features of war3 bnet (awesome clan support, automated tourneys, etc).

Those automated tournaments, while they required minimal support from blizzard (once the system was implemented), made the act of basically playing standard ladder games much more exciting. With the current system, there's not really any significant reason to pat yourself on the back when you play well (congrats, you're in the top 25 out of the 125 in your division...). It requires a lot of effort to actually enter into a 3rd party tournament (not to mention the difficulty of scheduling games, entry fees, etc). Automated tournaments make this a much simpler process for casual (read lazy/busy, not necessarily noob) players.

Show this Blizzard, but they should know about this already. if they at least gave a reason why they aren't doing anything. (maybe HotS?)

Why don't we care? What a dumb question.

We do, but we can do nothing. Blizzard does not want to focus it's time and resources on giving us cool stuff. These cool things do not bring new customers. And if they don't bring $$$ then what is the point.

As for paid name changes, idk.

We still care... I'll still go on rants from time to time, but Blizzard knows how much we dislike it by now anyway. It's a bit frustrating that they didn't try to change more things since as I believe they have a team just for Bnet 2.0, but in any event I am pretty sure they will make some changes for the better in HOTS.

It was shown to Blizzard and they addressed.
They always say stuff like "We heard these complaints before and we are planning on adding them into the game, but we don't have an ETA and there are more important things to do atm.".

And I hate this "We will address it in the next expansion" thing.
They admitted that there are some broken stuff in the game, but we will have to wait 6+ months for HotS to come out.
I thought that, since they will still keep WoL ladder, they would keep updating the game for a good time, but I guess that they will abandon WoL as soon as HotS comes out.

How did automated tournaments work (that sounds awesome--there were supposed to be ladder tournaments at the end of each system !!!!!)

Since it wasn't answered:
Automated tournaments were awesome.

Each day of the week except monday you have automated tournaments in the WC3 bnet with different "themes" like 1v1 standard(on a selection of maps) or 1v1 mirror only(on the same maps like standard) or 1v1 on one map only but all races and the same for 2v2 at and 3v3 at, afaik the starting times are 19:00 for weekdays and 14:00 for weekends. Always one of those each day.

You can play up to 8 bo1 games in the first round where you can always meet guys that have exactly the same stats as you do, the usual ladder rank didn't matter at all. The first round goes on for 2,5 hours or something(could be less for SC2, because the games are usually shorter) and the game lenght is limited to 30 minutes, if those 30 mins are up there are certain conditions where someone would be awarded the win. A win gives you 3 points, a tie 1 point and a loss gives you none or even deducts one, not sure atm.
The 16 best player go on to the playoffs, where it's a single elimination bracket where the #1 of the first round plays against the #16 and so on.

There is a special portrait tree for tournaments(and the highest tournament portrait Archimonde is the best pic in the game imo) and you have seperated tournament stats, and playing playoffs gives you bonus wins (reaching the ro16 gives you 1 bonus win, winning the whole thing like 25 or something)

This is so simple but so much fun, I don't know why this wasn't implemented Even when I didn't ladder anymore I still played tournaments sometimes because they have a different feeling to them.

This is my biggest gripe about the game. The chat/ui/functionality of everything prior to the 1v1 game play is disconnected and anti-social. It is so terribly designed that I honestly feel like I'm playing a computer when I click on that join 1v1 match. I have no idea how they hired to orcistrate this mess, but wow! They obviously never played SC. It's like some idiot went, "oh, I'm going to take away the 'best' things about SC1 and do the complete opposite in SC2!" Honestly, this has been such a common theme in video games these days, that I'm not suprised at all. Don't these people play these games? Why the fuck would you hire someone who never plays the fucking game to design it?!? Cause this person obviuosly never has.

Some of the features in the OP sound amazing, they would definitely improve the game, especially the social aspect which is an issue for many of the more casual players or players who don't have friends who play in their area.

For myself, I'd much rather have a real featured bent client than HotS, if I had to choose which to see this year.

bnet2.0 is such a huge turnoff. sometimes i open sc2 and just close it immediately, and it's because i get so disgusted by the interface. i still feel sooo strongly about this but what am i gonna do, make a thread about it? lol

One thing I would love to see implemented (but will never happen) is an read only api when playing watching replays (or observing matches) so that other programs like stream overlays can read out in-game actions and statistics. It might have to only be available for custom games.

Basically then overlays could display a large range of interesting statistics and could be customized appropriately. This would lead to a large increase in the professionalism and depth of live tournament statistics.

Sometimes I wish Blizzard was more like Google if they were then they would provide api's for player statistics and real-time in-game statistics. Battlenet would be completely web-based and would launch the game when needed. Also potentially a lot of the source code would be open such as file formats etc... if not the game-engine itself.
