To add the element of extended series to this explanation, just print it out and use it as toilet paper. The results will have the same effects as extended series.

Why? There could easily be barcraft for the winter championship AND the winter arena. It would be a similar number of barcrafts I would think. (around 8 total events barcraft worthy)

Really excited for this new structure. More content in the year, 4 champions in the year, and essentially 4 larger, longer tournaments in the year. Really well thought out.

With a $26000 prize pool for the Winter Arena tournament, I can't help but wonder how large the prize pool for the Winter Championship tournament will be?

So people can still skip the open bracket by being in pool play, and the only way to get into pool play is to be invited to their qualifiers? I still feel like this doesn't fix the problem from last year. New better players will still not have a chance for pool play based on insignificant results from a year ago.

Looks like it. From MLG's perspective, this actually reduces the cost of running major lans while potentially increasing their revenue (from online passes, stream ads, sponsors etc.) They probably liked the numbers they saw when they ran their online tournament leading up to Providence (the name of the tournament escapes me but its the one where IdrA, Mvp, NesTea and Naniwa competed in). From that perspective I think its a high reward, low risk type of a move.

Yes theres only 4 live events, I already miss the old MLG format of having 5-6 events per season, But hey a lot ppl hated the system.

they have clearly stated that this only applies to the winter season and not the rest of the year. Sundance tweeted "This is just for the winter arena - other season may have different structures and higher frequency of activity". this is definitely not all they have in store for the whole year.
