More like shitstorm. I honestly don't think he's that close to MVP's level.

Why would it cause a lot of discussion? The skill gap is no where close to BW and it is very close in terms of koreans vs foreigners.

Its not like koreans have some sort of magical genetic super gene for playing SC or any other game, they just have an incredible work ethic and practice very hard in a better environment.

Because it was mistranslated and it sounded like he was saying that there was only a small gap in between him and MVP when there was clearly a large gap in skill. And nobody ever said they had a super gene, they just have insane dedication.

I feel like Mvp is not getting enough credit for what he deserves, mainly because he plays terran. In almost every tournament (GSL and MLG), there is always fewer people cheering on for Mvp. For this WCG, I feel like people cheered him on mainly b/c he is Korean (cheering for the Korean).

I think it's the same with Flash, when you have such a solid, good player, with few flaws, you only know him as "good" rather than something more like "that guy can be super aggressive and go all-in" like July or like "that guy is not so good with dealing with cheese but he is so good once he gets into the lategame" like Idra

Q: Any plans to stay in Korea next year? And opinions on HotS?
A: The team already has plans on playing in Korea. And HotS won't help a lot, because HotS in fact stands for "Heart of the Swarm Breaks".

Am I the only one who noticed this? More foreigners in Korea!

Well, he did make the finals after demolishing Titan and going undefeated, didn't even make it look close. He's also rank 3 GM on korean ladder, and yet people are calling Stephano a god foreigner for making it top 20. He definitely fell apart against MVP, but that's MVP. However, he should stop making excuses about maps and start practicing them himself or at least go out to more tournaments outside of china. Staying isolated will only make you fall behind, and none of the top players mass ladder practice for a reason.

Overall, the chinese players are still behind, but it IS a bit unfair that you're comparing just one country to everyone else unless you're korea.

That's just how things are. When Terran has the best overall winrate in Korea and Internationally after a year's time (check the November TLPD Race winrate graphs topic for proof) it's a bit less impressive to most people when the most dominant player happens to be Terran. There's also a tendency for people to root for the underdog, and since MVP is considered the best player in the world right now, that tendency dictates that less people will cheer for him.

Edit: Before I get jumped on for the first part of that paragraph, I'd like to clarify that I'm just theorizing about why MVP perhaps isn't being given enough credit and that the theory isn't necessarily a reflection of my personal views.

There are only a handful of players in the world close to Mvp's level, so that doesn't say much. :D

Generally, there's not that big of a difference between the KR/EU/CN/NA players, especially compared to BW. That's what this tournament showed.

Darkforce beat MKP, Kas beat MKP Titan beat Supernova, Xigua beat Titan and Snute, Bling and Macsed each took a game off Mvp, who took the tournament over Xigua.

Representatives of every server had wins over every other server, no server completely dominated (with 2 EU, 1 CN and 1 KR player in the semis).

The difference is not big.

I don't get why people are bitching over Xigua's so called "easy" run. Yes it was easier than so and so's run but you can't get to finals of the WCG on an "easy" run.
Besides, Nestea had realatively easy runs multiple times but no one said anything.
Lol when people compare foreigners to koreans "the skill gap isn't that big, top foreigners can take games off of any top koreans"
Then when a chinese player who went undefeated besides the finals says the same thing, its all like "Koreans are on a whole different level, its not even close."

I hate you team liquid.

Yeah and they only get top 3 by manipulating the bracket. Like when Stork kept losing on purpose and forced a bazillion rematches.

I'm kind of disappointed in XiGua, although this is a lot better than his IEM China showing (0-3 [1-6] last place in his group). After all the hype hes gotten so far, I expected better. Especially if you're going to try to downplay your losses to MVP like that when he absolutely thrashed you. Give respect where respect is deserved.

I'm still really curious about Chinese players. While Korean and Foreign players have had their play showcased on the world stage (MLG, GSL, IEM), Chinese players still remain an anomaly.

I think MVP is being given plenty of credit. Just look at all the silly bonjwa talk every time MVP wins a tournament. From my observation far fewer people question MVP's legitimacy as the #1 player in the world than they did for MC (4/6 gate all-inner) or Nestea (weak opponents and dodged top terrans in his GSL runs).

What MVP has in respect he lacks in fandom. Part of it is what you mentioned about people tending to root for underdogs. It also doesn't help that MVP isn't a very demonstrative person. I mean our community deifies the top gosus so much we cling onto any personality quirks they show and run with it like Jaedong's death glare or Flash's eye twitch/pocari sweat. MVP doesn't have anything like that, except maybe his game face O: Then there's the whole Elephant in the Room stuff. I think more people would root for MVP if he wasn't the epitome of the BW hegemony over SC2.

He is saying that it will break the heart of the SWARM. As in Zergs and Zerg fans.

My Chinese isn't the best, but I read that clearly as "the Heart of the Swarm has broken". I don't know how it became "break the heart".

Tasteless also called DRG, DRUG for the longest time. If you've been reading TL, and/or looking at comments from people who have played on the Chinese server they've often said they are on the levels of the Koreans and that players like XiGua are a level above the other Chinese players.

EDIT: A lot of it calmed down/died out after his abysmal IEM China showing though.
