Yeah, I'm definitely in favor of rewarding transparency.

You're right that the organizers aren't always the cause of the non-payment, but it's impractical for the community to keep track of the reliability of the sponsors -- that is properly the responsibility of the organizers to begin with. This system will only really hurt tournaments that make a habit of having these problems. If the organizers repeatedly make the same mistakes (i.e. unreliable sponsors who refuse payment), then the community is right to push them out of the business, so that someone else can take their place.

Now we're talking. But what about administration of this? Who's gonna get the copy of the contract? Who's gonna make sure they follow up?
What about all the russian tournaments? You speak russian? Chinese? Australian (herp derp)?
The wait time for these prizes is ridiculous, I'm sorry to hear that sponsors step on tournament organizers and players like that. There really needs to be a way to ensure that money is paid out within a fair amount of time or otherwise pay interest.
i got 2nd place in ONEfireflash's tourney and was suppose to get $400 why back around February. i'm also still waiting for my money, and he's still a manager for ONE gaming :/

Thank you. I'm extremely surprised that aTnCloud already posted about ESWC not paying out just a few days after the event. We didn't even finish up logistically and this event is already listed in this topic.
Ok, i can imagine that because of the previous company going bankrupt the brand had some damage. But posting this before even contacting us is a bit harsh towards the new owners. Last year they paid out just a few weeks after the event and now we didn't even had the chance.
You could have contacted us in 100 ways, your management has direct contacts with us, you could have replied to your invite email you could have even gone to our website and look up contact information.
Anyway; i messaged you privately and i also already replied to you in the ESWC topic a few days earlier.
Give us a break and we'll contact you as soon as possible.

Many community figures talk about how events compete with one another for viewers, and I think that this is definitely one of the factors that concerns at least some viewers.
On the other side of the coin though, ESWC probably didn't get nearly enough viewers due to having to compete with Blizzcon. So they already lost the competition for viewers. Maybe ESWC will use that as an excuse to disappear again.
We had 100k simultaneous viewers as peak during our weekend and there were about 1500 people watching games at the stage.
Don't worry about the fact that ESWC wasn't a success. It was.
Something is still wrong with the idea that you expect players to have to contact you to get an update on the money owed to them. If you owe someone money, the responsibility is on you to pay it it.
Or at least that's how I think it should be.
I think the same, but he thought it was wise to PM me saying I put ESWC in bad light for no reason and I might not get invited next year because of it. lol.
An absolute joke, they wouldn't dare try to do this. This place will look like r/starcraft.

Shit, I'd probably do it for free if I had the support of some of the pros/teams. I don't have access to any of the contracts right now, I'm not one of those "in" guys, so it'd basically be a futile effort otherwise. Language help can be found in this community, I have no doubt.
In the end, it means nothing more than what the community takes it for. Which is why you'd need someone big to help get it initiated (if for say, EG/mouz endorsed it and ask tournaments to get certified). I cannot do it on my own and have it gain traction, I do not believe.

This is sad, Im wondering why it took THIS long for someone to bring it up to the community. Been playing bw and since the sc2 beta and to this day i never thought it was like this

Oouch. Thought that was resolved
yeah thats pretty ffffffffed up. i remember him coming on tl telling everyone he was gonna pay up too.
Let me add, there should be some sort of comparison to other events that hold weekly/monthly tournaments and such....those would be:
Golfing Events Tennis Events Racing Events Poker Events Boxing Events
I'd be interested to see someone with a lot of free time on their hands to dig up on the internet some example events (pro, amateur, whatever) and see what the turnaround time for payout on their events are.

Eh I dunno I would say that tournament organisers are most definitely the ones responsible for non-payment. They are running a goddamn business, it is their responsibility to be on top of their cash flow. Liabilities aren't conditional on whether or not you meet your cash flows lol when you owe somebody money you find a fucking way to pay them. Any other organisation with decent bargaining power (such as a bank or supplier of your goods) would laugh at you if you told them 'soz I know I said I would pay you but I can't until my money rolls in, brb 12 months', the only reason they are trying to pull this kind of shit on progamers is because they are just a single person with little amounts of money, knowledge of the law and capacity to enforce these obligations.
I understand that they may have difficulties with sponsors ect but they should both a. give these guys a proper indication of when they can expect to receive their money and b. actually give it to them in a reasonable time. If they are going to make them wait 12 months they should probably give them interest on top of that as well.
Would be great to have some sort of 3rd party to actually overseer this.
I'm glad that cloud brought this issue up since it bothered me even though I'm not a progamer. I don't get why progamers should have to wait months to receive a paycheck from a tourney that they played months ago. Tournaments should have the money on hand before they start their tournaments and not give people IOU's. It's bullshit that a starcraft progamer might not even be able to eat because of tournaments unfulfilled promises.

The event literally ended a week ago. It was disrespectful to include them in your list. I agree with what you're doing overall, but not with that part of it.
If you wanted to ask them if you're going to get paid, go ahead and do it. You can't expect them to get everything done within a week. Especially given the fact that they paid out in a few weeks last year.
He's right, you did paint them in a bad light by including them with everyone else. And the only reason was because they didn't contact you within a few days of the event? Doesn't seem fair at all.
