Sure if you wanna do silly comparisons, might wanna check how much content you get for it. An MMO hass nearly has much content in a couple patches then some whole games... Game mechanics of a competitive RTS discourage most people from playing it in the first place. Most people can't even get into the multiplayer, those that do get frustrated by it on a daily basis, many get ladder anxiety and actively avoid playing the game. You act like every wow player is addicted to it. Maybe just maybe they think the content is worth the money. I played wow for 4years and amusingly enough it SAVED me money since that was the only thing i played for a while. Was i addicted? No, i could stop when required. Did i played it a lot? Hell yea.
Every addict says they aren't addicted.
Are all WoW players addicted? No. However, if you're paying $180/yr to play a videogame -- you're going to get the most out of that purchase, and I think it's safe to say most WoW players play a bit too much.
Nonetheless, you're missing the point entirely. The entire point of an MMO that runs subscription is to get you hooked so that you keep paying. Denying that is denying a simple truth, WoW is made to addict you so you keep paying them monthly. RTS' are not meant to addict you, especially a game like Starcraft. It's a one time purchase. So comparing them is silly.

Even if it's $40, it'll be 40 euros for us, which translates to $53.
Compare: In 1998, in Germany, Brood War cost around 40 DM which was about $23 then;today it would be about $32 adjusted for inflation, that's 24 euros.
I probably got half of that wrong, but I was bored.

Hope it goes down to $29.99 final price.

When I say addicted, I don't mean addicted in a junkie "can't-look-away-from-pc" sense.
The game mechanics for WoW (and MMO games in general) are designed in a way to give players things to do and a motivation to do them and reward their progress while keeping the general feel of the game casual enough. And all that while keeping the gameplay mechanics stale and repetitive, and expanding in breadth rather than depth.
There's no way for Starcraft to emulate these mechanics because it's a very much hardcore, competitive game that requires commitment to learning the game, practicing execution and doesn't reward progress very well. It's not something that casual players can take for entertainment.

I always get this hipster vibe of people that think because it's so popular it must be the worst thing ever. Starcraft expands in breath rather than depth too (more tournaments) and I bet a lot of people here spend lots of time reading a forum and watching streams, something more passive than playing a MMO with friends.

Unless they do a really good package deal, this is going to be really hard for newer players to get into. $59.99 for SC2, and $39.99 for this expansion. That's $100 you have to shell out to start playing, assuming the price stays the same. When the last expansion comes out, that number only increases. I'll definitely be buying this either way, but still. I'm guessing they'll have some kind of bundle... I'd say around $60 for both HotS and WOL would be fair.

All the work went into HotS and server upkeep doesn't warrant your one time 40 bucks? Dude it's just 40 bucks.
PS Come on release the CE already I want to know what's inside!

D3 is going to have a CE and i know its not an expansion but you can pretty much expect a CE edition for any blizzard game now. It is easy money for them imo.
