IMO not entirely sure how to feel about the change. Warp prisms should be seen a lot more now, which is still a very credible threat due to their buff.

I'm pretty sure Creep Tumors on the High Ground bleed over onto the low ground. Not 100% though, and I can't really test it right now.

Engineering Bay and Evolution Chamber also don't require Barracks/Spawning Pool so they'd have to change it for all 3 races if they did this change (although Protoss are actually the only ones who build a forge before gateway, so wouldn't do anything to Zerg/Terran)

Yes, this change does remove gimmicky protoss play. But hello? Have you ever played protoss? Gimmicky play is what the race is all about and it's what I enjoy about it. No. Did you even watch Blizzcon?

They said flat out that it feels way too random if they start introducing World of Warcraft mechanics into Starcraft 2, eg. aoe dmg cap.

They're going to just decrease the radius of EMP, which is really the better way to do it.

Dustin Browder said it best - under the World of Warcraft aoe damage cap rules, if a ghost EMP's an Immortal with zealots around it...that would introduce randomness which has no place in strategy game.

If I choose to EMP that immortal, that EMP had better hit the immortal, assuming my aim is correct.

If anyone can bring forward a situation where they NEED their pylon to have high-ground warp-in when they aren't doing some kind of cheese or all-in then I'll reconsider


Every time I'm given opportunity, I put down a pylon on the low ground while my obs is coming from robo, thus allowing me a single harass with a round of warpin (pylon is taken down pretty quickly after that) if I dont essentially need it to be at home .
I dont call it a cheese or a all-in...

i can see what they've tried to do here, but there is gonna come a time in every toss players life, where not be able to warp in on the high ground will lose them the game unintentionally (like not in the middle of a cheese)

To be honest this just removes little 'cute' strategies and leads us further towards the 6 gate allins and 60 minute turtlefests a lot of games have become. As a zerg, I'm firmly against this -_-

After looking forward to HotS as Protoss with possible changes i got this nightmare to read .
One of the best paid E-Sport games getting fucked so hard just by terrible dessicions.
There are to many targets , and i smile everytime they try to defend and thinking they are smart.

I think this is a really good move, since it gets rid of those dumb 2 gate proxies and such, and makes sense since you can't see up cliffs like in BW anymore anyways, but then that means (like others mentioned) you can't do that warp-in aggression which I need protoss should have. Because it's exciting, unique, and cool. Perhaps it should just be buildings that can't be built, but then Blizzard probably won't do that since it's not "consistent" and would make things confusing.

Also I wonder why they wait until HotS to change this... as well as wait until HotS until releasing their new maps. They really want us to wait for HotS to get this new stuff don't they

Right, because 40 Seconds on Warp Gate, Pylon Range Reduction, and Pylons not allowing high Ground WarpIns is the same as a 5 Second addition to Barracks build time that actually just brought it in line with the Gateway and Spawning Pool build times.
