Feel bad as a protoss... more units I can't really micro with, and more units for other races to micro and reduce the value of my micro. WTH blizzard?

The Oracle seems strange. It is like the zerg's current overseer, that is being removed because it is too boring... at least that's what it seems like.

Also, another ground to air splash damage unit (from the factory) for terran? That must mean thors are being removed then right? Either way I'm happy to see mech is going to be more durable (with the battle hellion) for terran.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new protoss unit also being a capital ship... I would rather have it be a nearly equivalent cost to the void ray, or simply be a flying spellcaster.

Edit: Also the pull on the flying zerg unit (viper) seemed to have ridiculous range... it will make collosus useless against them. And the burrowing zerg unit that spawns units... meh. I guess it depends how it works, but it seems like that will be hard to balance in different situations, so I feel they will be very weak in the later game, but stronger early on.

to me, siege tank seems like one of the few units that is viable to be replicated, cuz it brings something unique to the toss army, in other cases mostly it will be ridiculously cost ineffective

What about medivacs? That might lead to some unique strategies.

Many Protoss units cannot be healed. It is mainly for zealot but a 200/200 medivac that is easily killed and has to stay in melee range to heal the zealot isn't of much use.

Replicate is indeed a fun ability and unit, but the cost at the moment is too high.

As for the Oracle, that Preordain ability seems like one of the most useless abilities they could think of. Costs energy and allows you to see what they are researching? In pretty much no circumstance do you not already know what they are researching by just looking at the building.

Give it detection instead, as now Protoss is even more forced to go Robo every single game (due to burrowed banelings). Not to mention that mutas will have detection (due to the viper) and just snipe your observers before you know it, so your mineral lines will be even more doomed.

Oh what an amazing point. You're are so absolutely right. Blizzard does have a long running track record of broken games that are unplayable due to balance issues. They obviously don't know what they are doing. I'm not sure how they have such a large following given the fact that all of their games are so terrible and broken. Clearly they fucked up again, and once again nobody will buy or play their ridiculously unfair and broken game. I wish they had people that know how to make games.

The Nexus doesn't seem to have Mass Recall, but simply Recall. You shouldn't be able to bring your whole army unless you're in the late game with 6 Nexuses with full energy.

Im actually most hyped about Ultralisk charge... it fixes major of problems with the unit.

But one question about Ultralisk charge - can it be used up/down the cliffs?

A few moments ago, Blizzard Korea has released some further details with changes and information from the upcoming changes for HotS announced at Blizzcon. A friend translated these quickly before leaving to class, so some of it may be a bit rough. He only translated the changes that we did not yet know.

Oracle can warp buildings away to stop attacks on your own structures, or stop research for enemy structures
Oracle can see research or production of enemy structures
Replicant can transform into non massive units
Mass recall now available on Nexus
Recalled units are unable to move for a few seconds
Warhound is good at killing siege tanks, but has a short range
You can only have ONE THOR ON THE FIELD AT A TIME, but it becomes BIG AGAIN LIKE IN ALPHA/BETA
Thor attack and health increased
Instead of air attack, Thor gets a massive bombardment skill
Bombardment requires a skill similar to siege mode, this requires a fusioncore and an armory
Battle Hellion has higher health and shorter range
Ghost cloak changed and now spends a specific amount of energy, lasting for a certain period of time
Ghost cloak is no longer an on/off skill
Battlecruiser gets a cooldown skill called "limit reactor"(?) that boosts movement speed
Reaper loses d8 charge attack
Reaper gains a HP recovery skill
Viper inserts parasite into friendly units to make them detectors
Corruptor loses corrupt and gets a new skill called "absorb"(?) that damages enemy structures and turns them into resources
Banelings can move burrowed
Hydralisks gain a speed upgrade
No more overseers

Unless I somehow end up liking the Terran units more than I do now, I could see myself switching to Zerg :/

I really don't get it TBH.

Terran has the most units and the most flexibility: 3 units added none removed.
Protoss has the 2nd most units (not going to argue if P or Z is more flexible. I have an opinion but it's debatable, unlike for T): 3 units added 2 removed.
Zerg has the fewest combat(ish) units: 2 added 1 removed.

Almost everyone agrees the corrupter needs to go and it's still in with an ability that I can't really see mattering for Zerg (making money isn't Z's problem--honestly I would rather have corruption). Mothership out just as people are finally starting to use it. I guess I was expecting T to have some of their openers removed (like the bashee or something) but instead they seem to be trying to make the reaper viable too. Also does T really need another zoning ability? The shredder seems like a mobile mine of sorts and I can just see sitting behind a line of Shredders >> bunkers >> tanks outside my nat and kekekeing to victory. Holding ground just wasn't something they needed to get better at.

None of the above says anything about balance (I'm a little nervous about putting Zerg mobile detection behind another building but it's not like Blizz is going to overlook this if you can just make DTs and win every game)... that will get worked out... but from a game design perspective I really don't get what the plan is here.

On the plus side, I think the P harass unit is actually a pretty good idea assuming it's worth it. P really does need to be able to slow down Z and T a little and I also like the umbra thing on the viper. Dark Swarm was awesome and having it's cousin back should make the game much more exciting.

I have no clue how the replicant will work.

I hope they keep the changeling, maybe give it to the queen or the new overlord.. I just started using them more and theyre really effective at scouting. Even if youre opponent notices you get a great look at their unit comp, potential tech choices, upgrades, etc.

Tempest: Solve none of the weaknesses of the Carrier (Unless the ground attack is even more dps than the Carrier) while also not being a good response to mass muta which is where the +dmg against light and splash helps. 300/300 75 second build time, have fun never being built because you solve even less of a purpose than Carriers.


This is idiotic. 75 second build time is lightyears faster than the carrier, it flies faster than the carrier, and aoe makes it really good against Mutas/Vikings, and mass air in general. It basically seems like a giant corsair, which if anything could make it too good against mass muta.

200/200 is a lot more than I was expecting the Replicator to cost... holy hell that is a lot for a unit which can only steal a single unit and which has very low hp apparently.

150/200 for the Oracle, and having it come from the Stargate instead of the robo, is nice imo. I like the cost, the abilities and the location so far.

hmmmm. IMO it would be worth it to build one replicant just to copy an SCV for auto-repair. Almost every single protoss unit can be repaired, and repairing colossi would be absolutely amazing.

mutas are going to be dead and worthless against toss now


all nexus's get a free mothership over it . i used to rush motherships against zerg to counter muta. mutas strength is their mobility, and mass recall countered mutalisks nicely and allowed me to defend 4+ bases

however now against zerg every single nexus gets a free mothership.... every nexus can use mass recall holy crap mutas will be dead against protoss completely
