I only had one very small issue, it seemed the volume of the casters was too low. Not sure if it was on my end or not. I could here the casters fine and everything, just would have liked to turn up the volume a bit.

Other then that this was by far the best tournament I have ever seen. All of the IPL employees have a great personality,

Lani is awesome, she entertained me for hours the other day when the net went down. The BW match was incredible too see, the match between deathlord and goliath was.... entertaining.
The commercials, interviews, Gordon Hayward, the casters, translators, hosts, players, staff, camera crew, Lo3 on the stage.. I could go on and on.

Be proud. You guys have taken it up to the next level and other organizations are gonna have to step up their game or settle for second place.

The future of e-sports is looking bright, and I love knowing that an organization like yours is at the fore front of it's growth.

Great job guys, thank you for a wonderful weekend <3

8 out of 10, maybe 8.5 considering it was a first effort.

+ All the stream options and backstage stuff. It's cool to see some of the players doing non SC2 related stuff.

+ Player panel(s). It's basically an interview but the players can interact with each other and that adds depth to it.

+ Using incontrol impromptu. He has the charisma to keep things entertaining during down time.

+ Great prize pool. First place being a big increase makes it seem more special.

+ Rotating casters. Big plus to Appolo. Bring him back for next event.

+ Lani

- 4 day event which started early on thursday and friday meant that most of the online audience and especially live audience missed almost half the total event. Cut it to a 2.5 or 3 day event. To fit everything in maybe you can have some of the matches played on a alternate only online stream.

- Pool play meaning very little made the games feel less exciting.

- Anna and Rachel seemed over dressed. It didn't seem to fit with the event plus I think they look better not so done up.

- HD mostly and Painuser, to a lesser extent, being shameless with the plugs felt a bit cringe worthy. Stephen Colbert can do shameless plugs like that but it was just awkward with visine being used all the time.

- Ending ceremony seemed a bit improvised. David Ting wasn't very comfortable up there and it was very obvious. What he said to start was fine but once the players were brought on stage I think someone more comfortable should have taken over and a more prepared ceremony should have taken place. It was great seeing a foreigner finally win a big tourney like this but the energy was very quickly taken away with a rather poor post fight interview and then a very poor finale.

- Having more prepared interview questions. The way a question is phrased can influence someone to give a yes/no answer or a more thoughtful one. 'Do you think you can win?' often leads to a one word answer.

- LoL being a giant reset button on the momentum built over the day.

Things I'd like to see next time.
I like seeing the face of the guy who wins right after winning, especially when it's a big win. Often the 'person wins' graphic lasted too long so you couldn't see their emotion.

Another camera thing, and maybe it was done to an extent, but for things like, ex. someone burrowed a ton of banelings and the terran player is moving close to them put the camera in the corner on the terrans face to see how they react to something like that. Other things like nukes, archon toilets etc

it's great! except some games had a contrast level set too dark.
The IPL crew deserves a large pay raise, especially lani, she did an amazing job in keeping us watching the stream while the internet was down.

I didn't like that part where we had to wait for almost an hour on the ro8 because idra and inori finished theirs too fast and althrough there was special show match, it might have been better to just ask if the players can play now or not.

LoL finals may have helped the overall starcraft 2 organization before the biggest final ? If that wasn't LoL, it'd have been some interview with the crowd or anything. Sadly i didn't watch the finals cauz i was way too tired.

Still i really appreciated the way the streams worked. It had HD, multiple streams going on, and worked on most internet browsers (GomTV on opera anyone ?).

I just don't understand why nobody uses the default screen names on the top of the screen (we could easily work it out if the name didn't match with the ones we all know like putting the same color above it or something).

Overall, That was a great tourney Keep up the good work !

Overall I really enjoyed watching, great production. Enjoyed the games, the ability to view VOD's so quickly. Great quality for a free stream as well.

Painuser and HD casting together wasn't a good idea because their voices were both quite monotone/similar sounding. They could cast but it just sounded kind of boring. Putting someone like wheat in there would break it up a little better. HD needs to stop making so many damn miscalls in games.

Showing the player instead of the game while an intense fight is going on like during lucky vs that slayers player (forget which one) was frustrating.

Seeing the crowd with so many empty seats wasn't cool, this was probably just due to the event being in a casino though, right? It didn't help when the casters were asking for a round of applause.

Putting girls on stage in slinky eye catching dresses next to nerds in tshirts, shorts, flip flops and generally looking unwashed/uncomfortable (next to said females) for interviews is a cringe worthy awkward and makes the girls look like attention whores. If you want female interviewers, they need to dress like interviewers (more professional) and not like they are ready for a charity dinner event.

The award ceremony was awkward and even Stephano did not appreciate being asked the same question twice, I don't understand how it could be messed up when all you have to do is:

hand over giant cheque and pose for photo
hand over trophy and pose for photo
ask him what he will do with winnings since you already asked how he feels
final photos, then say thanks for tuning in and maybe final thanks to sponsors again

First of all, well done for a first time live event. Having said that though there still is plenty of room for improvement.

* Get a back up system for your internet that works. MLG learned it the hard way and so did you guys.

* Whenever a game is paused due to lag, do NOT cut to a commercial during that pause. It is very frustrating as a viewer to find that the game has unpaused during the break and you missed something.

* The scoreboard on the stream was often one shade too bright, making it very hard to read.

* The filler content with interviews was good from a quality point of view but it all was very dated. It was obvious that the majority of your interviews were shot at MLG Anaheim. In a scene that moves as fast as Starcraft II showing content that is 10 weeks old is like reading last weeks newspaper: you already know what it is going to say so you don't bother.

* Talking about fillers.... that Randy character... think we have a different sense of humor.

* Make your Pool Play matter more then just a 1000$ set of games just for seeding. Seeding isn't that relevant in the final 32 of a tournament of this level because everyone you meet at that point is a fantastic player.

* Broadcast all of your championship bracket matches. Especially if you label it as 'the real tournament' then why don't we get to see all of those 'real games'? If you have 6 streams running then give us more then one game at a time to watch if you can't run them all consecutively.

* Casting wise: While I can understand your motives behind giving HD & PainUser your finals as they are your main casters, it seems that your audience does not like that pair. This poll in another topic indicates that out of 1750 people only 14 % prefered HD & PainUser over your other casting duo's.

* While I can understand your decision to air the League of Legends final on the main stream I feel that the timing of that was a bit weird in the middle of the two semi finals. Either delay both of the Semi Final sets or have both of them played out before you have the LoL finals.

* Seriously consider switching your LoL game mode over to Dominion because it is a much more watchable E-Sport. Also the reduced amount of possibilities in game time (average is about 20 minutes with the maximum being about 26) makes it much easier to make a schedule. Having a BO3 of Summoner's Rift is a nightmare to schedule as you can be busy anywhere between 1 hour and 15 minutes (quick 2-0 win) and 4 hours (very long 2-1).

* While the Venue probably was great for those that attended the event it was quite bad on stream. The problem with taking a venue with fixed seating and then going for crowdshots during the day time on a working day... is that there are loads of empty spaces. Next time if you have empty chairs: don't give crowd shots.

I feel like a lot of very valuable materials are burrowed in channel 5/6's stream vods. It's kind of too long and nobody would like to watch 6-8 hours vod replays after the event. But there are actually many very good content in there. You guys should seriously consider hire some ppl to organize those vods and find out the interesting parts (e.g., the car ruined e-sports, interview with Gordon Hayward, diner with Koreans, and many many player interviews) and make those short youtube VODs. Though we may have report articles but ppl tend to see through their own eye and hear from their favorite players' mouth. Just publish those short VODs on youtube with IPL logo it surely will promote IPL a lot in the community. Fan definitely will be happy to see these first hand materials.

8 or 9. Unfortunately the Comcast freak accident kept this from being a near perfect event, but it still ranks as one of the very best SC2 events I've seen; I'd put it slightly below the magical MLG Columbus overall. The games were great, I love the format, I love seeing a fresh crop of players instead of the same ones over and over (MLG pool play for instance).

The production values were nice, and the stream quality was amazing. No other tournament came close to the quality I saw over the weekend. And it was free...amazing. As I said in the official thread, MLG has some catching up to do, but given their financing situation they're simply unable to compete with the power of IGN. Maybe Orlando will prove me wrong, but I doubt it. I'm not bashing MLG, I love it and will be watching next weekend but I think IPL3 just raised the bar in many ways.

In terms of criticism:
-I felt the stalling tactics earlier today were pretty bad. Personally I would have much preferred to see a mini caster tournament instead of Ting against Lani. I've been itching for MLG to do something similar (Day9 v Artosis!), but IPL could do something similar with HD v PainUser for instance. Downtime is inevitable at these live events, so having something fun to watch would be nice.

-I would have liked more open bracket games on the second stream. The open bracket is a great way to highlight up and coming players in the scene, as well as show off some of everyone's favorite players. I really liked the fact that a guy like Spanishiwa managed to make it to the 32 man bracket, and would have liked to have seen some of his earlier games.

-Obviously the venue was great, and provided entertainment during the long periods of downtime...but the crowd seemed kind of subdued and smaller than other events. In the future I can't help but hope for a venue everyone can attend

Showing the player during engagements was a terrible idea and was incredibly frustrating.
The 'comedian' wasn't funny, any other filler would have been better
Group play should actually mean something.
Having LoL final between semi final games was stupid
Volume seemed low
Need to get better observers during games, only with DJ Wheat + Apollo was it actually decent. The other casting duos missed a lot of engagements
Should have the game overlay be like it is in GSL/MLG where it shows the colors of the players and score clearly.

For the most part the time filler stuff was pretty good.
Lani & Megumi were positives as well

it was sick, and I'm glad ign is finally getting the attention they deserve for the IPL. I only hope though that they will promote the qualifier events better in the future; often LR threads have very few pages on TL!

Gave it a 5.
Day 1 started 2h late.
Day 2 started 5h late.
Catspajamas is a horrible observer.
The comedian was terrible.
I tought that having a mic next to a players keyboard and hearing click clack whole game on mainstream is just a stupid idea.
When showing a players face fullscreen midgame, it shouldnt be locked on that camera for +30 seconds.
All championship bracket games werent casted.
It felt like the time after series were over the casters talked about nonsence was way too long.

Thats all I could think of for now.

It was great.

However.

The fact that your LoL Stunt with the stream when you already knew no one wanted to watch it (we were there for starcraft.) Sorta KILLED 2 of the most important GAMES They sounded Epic....wait, the bits and peices I could hear.

Overall it was amazing, and frankly the production was amazing and alot better any of the current productions. Your casting teams litterally put NASL to shame (I enjoyed Season one of NASL but this season? The casting puts me off. It just doesn't sound like they are having any fun with it or are enjoying the games at all).

Sooo for IPL 4. NO STUPID LOL ON MAIN STARCRAFT STREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kitty Flandre....even more scary..

I only showed up on sunday but I thought this was absolutely phenomenal to be at. I was at IEM at comic con in nyc last year and I know that's not nearly as big as some other events but this really blew it out of the water

my BIGGEST +++ is them having a huge event on the EAST COAST! and on top of that, right here in Jersey. I really hope that no matter how much they expand they throw us at least an event a year in this area. meeting boxer was amazing and I hope it's the first of many memories I can make through IPL. I never ever thought, when IPL1 was going on, that IGN was going to be showing other tournaments how to do it right so quickly.

but I think they should have a look at how gsl and bw osl msl an such run live tv because there were plenty of awkward tv moments when the games started and where commentators had to just fill dead air with whatever

transitions between games wasn't very smooth not near the gsl studio level but i guess that's not what the show is its more of a live show for the fans to go to and for a stream to observe

but it shouldn't be this way considering that lots more are gonna watch via the stream I think if more planning went into the vision switching and the blocking of the show it could have been alot better

also I didn't like that the commentators were on the stage and we didn't get much to look at when the camera was pointed at them, if the commentators booth was to the side or back so that they could get an angle showing the crowd behind (like gsl) would have been cooler i think

TLDR

good tv goes unnoticed better blocking and camera angles could made it less awkward at times and there for more entertaining

I really enjoyed the entire tournament guys! My only criticism would be that you need to get VOD's from games up faster as there are games I need to see that I missed :D The live vod feature mlg does is amazing so people can skip back and watch missed games.
Good job overall though and I hope to see an ipl 4!

This, a thousand times over.
Not only is it not a great question in terms of potential answers and my interest in them, it's also incredibly rude and invasive. I appreciate that you guys were excited about how much money you could provide to the top 32 (definitely keep this, even if it means you have to scale back the top prize I love this concept), but I don't ask you how much you earn and what you do with your disposable income.

Other things:

As well as the short downtimes, I really enjoyed the little skits and interviews and things. Oh, and that panel with incontrol, MC, select and stephano was pure baller.

I'm not going to rag on you for the LoL tourney on the main stream (although obviously I'll echo sentiments that it shouldn't have been in between the semis, either before or after would have been fine.

The 21+ age limit really did suck in terms of audience size as far as I can tell, but if you're tied in with a casino I guess there's a limit to how much you can do. But if you could wangle it down even to 18+ that'd be much better.

Also don't listen to people complaining about EU broadcasting times. We put up with MLG, we'll put up with IPL.

IPL was actually pretty good. The only thing that was kinda bad were them internets(thanks for LAN blizzard). And I was totally mad when they put LoL finals before 2 last matches. I personally have nothing against LoL, but man, I came there to watch Starcraft. I was sitting in my old little Europe by my PC, It was like 1:30 am and I had school next day but I really really wanted to see the finals. But suddenly, LoL. And when they said its gonna be best of 3 and one game is like 45 minutes, I just went to bed.

+Megumi, Lani great entertainers! Made for the camera
+foreigner winning 1st place
+4 days of excellent starcraft
+amazing venue
+great casting
+behind the scenes content
+great production

-21 and up / poor crowd attendance
-delays on the 1st day
-awkward tv advertisement guy made my cringe
-not enough wheat/apollo
-need more OGN-style camera work (quick pans to the players during crucial build-up times to show tension, quick pans right after a player wins to show emotion)
-Select losing ): ): ):

9/10 because no one and nothing is perfect. Otherwise, FANTASTIC! event. Ive never been so glued to an event before.

Suggestions:

- Better ending ceremony, they always seem to be lackluster.. I actually liked the NASL one a lot where they had everyone come on from 1-16 and at least they tried to close out with a performance.

- Improvement on casters, I think the big names would be great: Day9 if hes available, tastosis. A few of the other prominent and lesser known ones would be great too like: Husky (who did a fantastic job at MLG) and the guys at Its GoSu (Redmage and ayesee (sp?)) I didnt like the casting duo of HD and PU for reasons that are well documented.

I missed the finals because of the LoL fiasco. Horrible horrible decision. Don't do a trick like that in IPL4 please.
