Hello! My name is Mary Ratliff, I'm the director of Good Game, one of the Starcraft 2 documentaries you may have heard of.

I wanted to create a thread for a couple reasons. First, so that any of you guys who want to keep up with the film have a place to come to for updates and information. Second, because we want your input as we work on the film! More on that in a moment.

Our film is focused on Team Evil Geniuses and their Starcraft 2 Players. We're interested in the SC2 scene, of course, but also we want to get into what makes a professional gaming team work. How do they make this crazy dream a reality? We're talking to all of the members of the team, but we're also talking to the people who really make it work. We want to know every part of the team, in front of and behind the scenes. We'll also be talking to several members of the community to get their perspective not just on the team but also the world of competitive SC2 and esports in America and abroad. We've got some great people that you'll recognize that are interested and willing to be in the film, and I'll announce them in this space as soon as their interviews are done.

We'll also be exploring the history of the team, and talking about where they hope to go in the future both from the player and the team perspective. We'll be visiting the EG Lair, and traveling to South Korea to see their players compete there as well.

The crew and I have been hard at work on this film for a year now, and we've already crisscrossed the US to film a variety of events. We've got hours of footage that we can't wait for you to see, but we will keep filming through the end of the year. I want show a year in the life of an esports team. The film should be completed mid-way through 2012.

Now, I mentioned that we want input and participation from the community. So I'm sure your'e wondering about that. What do I want from you?

It's pretty simple. I'm fascinated by the dedication and talent of the fans of esports. The fanart, the music, the YouTube channels, podcasts...the people who love this scene are artistic in a way that other fans aren't.

I want to talk to fans about what drives them to be so involved in this community, I want to talk to a musician or two about the inspiration for making SC2 parody songs.

And I just want to talk to more fans. You don't even have to be a fan of EG in particular, we want a variety of fans and opinions. We're going to be at IPL3 and MLG Orlando in the next few weeks, and if you're going to be there too then please consider talking to us for a few minutes. You can PM me here, or email info [at] goodgamemovie.com if you are interested.

What can you do if you're not going to be able to meet us in person and be on camera (or if you don't want to)? Post here, and tell me what you want to know about the team. What question have you wanted to ask that nobody seems to be asking them? What do you want to see that hasn't been seen? What do you find interesting about esports, SC2, and/or EG that you think the whole world should know about?

You can also like us and talk to us on our Facebook Fan page: http://www.facebook.com/goodgamemovie

Wondering who we are? You can find out a lot more about the film at the website: http://www.goodgamemovie.com. We'll also be keeping that updated with blog posts, images, and new videos on a regular basis.

The brief summary is that we are a group of professional filmmakers that happen to also be lifelong gamers. You can find out more about me personally at my website, http://www.ninehourfilms.com. That's got all the long bios, credits, and fun stuff that I won't bore you with here.

I've been playing Starcraft off and on for over a decade and I've been watching competitive games for a while now. I attended MLG DC last year, and that's where this project was born. When I got home I immediately started researching and writing proposals for this film because I knew that the rest of the world needed to know about this. I love using my creative work to fight stereotypes and try to show people that something they might not understand is actually something they should celebrate and support.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you have about the project, I'll check this page regularly, and update whenever we have a new video or something I think you'll want to see.

Want to see more right now?

We've posted five videos so far for your enjoyment. They're all gathered here: http://www.vimeo.com/album/1658220

This is our latest trailer:

There aren't many things I'd consider to be as important as the bitch-ton of work I've got lined up for me this year.

This however, seems like it'll be worth it!

Certainly the most professional looking e-sports documentary I've seen so far, pretty exciting. Hopefully they really capture the "tone" of e-sports and do so in a way that makes me say "hey, this is something I would want to show someone who has no idea about pro-gaming."

I hope I don't offend anyone, but I don't think a movie about a team that only has very few of their players ever deliver results is worth a documentary. Hell, two of those players are almost completely brand new to the team and the other two have been slumping hard for a few months now. The rest are almost no-names and/or have been living off their early SC2 success. I mean, how are you going to make a documentary enticing when we see EG players not win a single game in group stages?

I think an EG documentary could be more interesting than most teams. This isn't based on results necessarily, but the team's interest, history, and drama. Also, they are one of the only foreign teams with a team house. If that fact starts to get them results, it will be very good to see in the documentary. Add to that all the drama about them picking up Huk and Puma. Also the fact that Idra, Huk, and Puma will be staying in Korea together. This doc could be awesome.

Evil Geniuses is the most accomplished NA team. Who else will they make a documentary of?

This looks really sick. Maybe having like a documentary of their games in 2011 MLGs or something chronological would be sick. Then again, just seeing what they're like and how hard they practice is pretty sick too.

Yeah i agree
there is just something attractive on the EG life style that makes me interested in them more than any other team, despite not having good results in major tournys.

like the Eg.lair, The streams, the the amusing videos of them on youtube etc etc

Is the film going to be dealing with EG SC2 team only, or all of the teams? Seems like SC2, which I'm fine with, but I'm interested in how the organization handles the other esports teams.
I'm a gooner.
