I really wouldn't be surprised if Stephano was offered around 100,000 from Complexity, looking at their sponsor list.
None of this was ever said.
edit: except the rumors about Huk's salary being 6 digits
Here is an interview where HuK talks about him being in the top 3 highest paid salaries in the world, also mentions that Min Chul (oGsMC) made a quarter million dollars in salary last year:
(The video is copied from when they start talking about salaries)

You misunderstood what Huk said. Huk was saying he believes he is one of the highest paid players off of just salary, but if you include winnings he probably isn't because MC earned around a quarter of a million dollars due to tournament winnings. MC does not have a $250k salary. Hell oGs players all together probably don't make $250k in salary. There isn't much money in Korean sc2 teams

I think you're misinterpreting him. Huk is saying, "a guy like MC made a quarter million last year, but in terms of salary, I'm a top 3 earner in the world."
He's talking about MC's total winnings.
IdrA signed his contract in the first season of GSL, just after the Beta ended. I'd be stunned if EG signed him to a 6-figure contract before SC2 had even established itself as a major e-sport. If you included room and board, maybe the contracts overall value is higher than 6-figures, but in terms of salary ...

MC has made 210,000 dollars in Tournament winnings in his StarCraft II career. That isn't a quarter million. Additionally, last year MC made about $90,000 from tournament winnings, and HuK said 'last year'. From the interview it sounds like he's talking about salary.
Regardless, this is getting really off topic. My point was that I was surprised that Stephano didn't unhold his CoL deal as i would imagine they can offer better financial support.

If OGS could afford to pay a single player $250,000, their entire team would be playing in the NASL right now. It simply does not make sense.

No he's not. In the year that sc2 has been out, he has won the $210k like you said. Don't look at calendar year. And Huk wasn't giving a specific amount as he doesn't know the exact numbers MC makes, he just gave the ball park, which is roughly a quarter of a million dollars. So even if MC made $250k in winnings plus salary, his salary would be 40k, which I doubt its that high.
I hope this won't slander the player. These teams are "suppose" to be good at making their side look awesome, they write with very good grammar and can angle it as they want.
As long as Stephano comes out without too much "crap" I'm happy =]
Even EG managed to have Huk leave, so interesting to know what they are actually offering them.

Could you post a source on all of this?
I never heard that MC gets 250k...
No one has. MC doesn't make Flash money. And I don't remember Idra ever saying that he gets above $100,000k. The guy is just making it up.
The guy is making it up. MC has *made* nearly 200k. That isn't his salary.
Idra's salary has never been publicly stated, but the rumors put it in the 50-60k range. People were throwing out that Huk's was around 100k, but no one (minus InControl, apparently) knows most of the details.
Stephano stood to make really good money, given his generally considered talent and finishing normal schooling, he has the ability to get a lot better. I could see a contract between 35 to 50k that was sent his way (some compensation might have been in foreign travel).

Complexity should just drop it and wish him the best of luck. If they want him to do well they should let him live with his decision.
Time and resources invested in recruiting the player. I don't know of him though.

First and foremost i'd say its a matter of principle to Complexity. Jason Lake has always seemed like the kind of guy who doesn't let himself being pushed around like this.
The highest Starcraft salary in the world is currently 250k, and that's Flash. In other words, it is completely unreasonable for MC to make that much. Make no mistake from what HuK said, it's just tourney winnings.

exactly. this isn't about complexity getting money or anything, its about setting a precedent in the esports world that signing contracts actually means something and that players and teams need to respect these contracts.

Indeed... And Stephano really looks like a naive young man ...

Letting this pass not only with Destiny but now with Stephano as well would put complexity in a bad light I think, if these 2 can, why can't anyone who joins complexity just not honor their contracts. It has to stop somewhere.

The reason is not money or time... It's all about Moral. coL is one of the leading teams in esports. They want proffesionalism and one aspect of that is to respect a contract!
