I would like to see the statement from the sc2con.
At the moment I just can't believe that the travel expenses are the real reason.

Also the NASL should keep these kind of deails close to the vest. Don't start airing details of your deals and offers. Keep the details for the good deals, not the failed ones. Don't let people know from a business standpoint that you are being turned down. Just focus on the strong points of your product.

to be frank, screw em. NASL pretty much bent over backwards and was very accommodating in the talks. and for the Koreans to do this so last minute im quite mad at them. maybe if they had spoken out early (b4 signing contracts herp derp) about possible travel or money issues it could of worked but to at the last minute change their mind and say nah we dont have the money unless you want to cover everything i find that quite disgraceful.

NASL again blaming others for their failure. Sad :/

How are you going to fill in the player slots? Will you be using an invite system, or players who made it far in the qualifiers? I would love to see Jinro in the NASL. He tried to qualify but lost to SC.

The thing that makes the least sense is that korean players like ganzi, DRG, choya, and other non-invitees are willing to go to MLG for a chance to win 5k, and paying for the expenses themselves but this committee doesn''t want any part in the nasl when they are offered 2k per player + and a chance to win 50k.

It's not adding up...

False.

Ganzi, Choya, and other non-invitees like Alicia, were paid for by their own team sponsors aka SlayerS and FXO (and FXOBoss has stated that the cost to gain benefit ratios are slim, and that's why he's not sending any koreans to Raleigh, but will for Orlando). These teams have large enough sponsorships and money to be able to pay their own way through. Also, this doesn't include the prior frustrations regarding scheduling of matches for Koreans.

DRG didn't pay for it himself the first time, he was part of the MLG/GSL exchange, so him, boxer, MVP, and MMA were paid for by that system.

In this next MLG where DRG wasn't invited, but will be attending, he's being paid for by Complexity not team MVP probably.

Remember, that outside of SlayerS, FXOKorea, and IM, I don't think most of the Korean teams make very much from their sponsors. oGs and Prime have local fried chicken sponsorships that probably just help cover living expenses to run their pro houses. MVP as far as I know has no sponsor as a team (they don't wear anything), Zenex likewise doesn't have a big sponsor. Startale has some level of sponsorships as seen by their patches on their clothing, but are probably in the same boat as oGs and Prime's sponsorship levels. TSL was the only clan that had fully salaried workers in them, and 2 out of the 3 of them left the team which probably terminated the contracts anyways, and TSL has stated that Sangho and Clide gave up their own prize money/salaries to help with the team.

I think people vastly overestimate how "glamorously rich" the korean pro teams are.

They make money.. it just all goes into "mangement" and other BS like SC2Con. Korean's are abusing the talents of players and making money. Prime has a chain restaurant as a sponsor... they all have multiple sponsors... yet the players are all broke!! Someone is fleecing the Korean players and calling it "management" and doing stuff like forming unions and probably collecting "dues"

I think a big reason is due to the Puma fiasco and the sc2con wants to make a statement against it.

They'd look like a joke for being that sensitive about something like that when TSL and EG have communicated and resolved it.

I haven't seen this anywhere but a round trip ticket alone, from Korea to LA, his around $1,000 dollars, coach, and that is really cheap, with plenty of notice. But tickets I am looking at on Kayak.com can go up to $2.5k depending on the date.

So lets say they have to book, a month in advance, the tickets with all the fees and taxes at best would be $1500. I think that is being very conservative.

I would imagine that players once they book would have to plan to stay for the entire finals. That's probably a week. 7 days in a very cheap hotel room in California would run $100 a night per person. I still think I am being very generous. Then there a meals, drinks, traveling around and other day to day expenses that come with traveling.

I think a 2k Stipend would Barely cover it for these players. If I was traveling for work I would simply want to know that I would be completely covered and not have to worry about spending my own money.

I think the Koreans were in the right to ask for more, so that they know nothing would come out of pocket, otherwise what is the point?
A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

I would like to hear the Korean point of view. The way it was presented it seems like they were very unreasonable. I'm sorry for NASL. First season grand finals was a great championship, I wish all the best for them.

NASL can't grow without Koreans. The competition would be a joke if it's not played by the best players.

To be honest I think this is fine, since there are plenty of good players still in this season. I think season 2 will be just as exciting to watch.

It's just economics. They can make more in the GSL or something right now. They feel they are worth more than the NASL can afford at the moment. Let the NASL grow then they can afford to pay top teir talent if that's what it takes and it's what their customers demand. Maybe their customer base would be just fine seeing the best of the rest? Quite possible. This may even bring in higher quality talent overall since people hovering around the teens that could be sleepers may have skipped this tourney because they knew they couldln't hang w/ Koreans.

I only really enjoyed watching the finals of the last one due to the koreans.

I can't say I'll be that interested this time. It's kind of a shame. But then again, it is called the North American starleague for a reason.

Do you have their financial reports to even remotely indicate this? I think it's a little rude to suspect that the team managers, lots of which are former players within the teams themselves, are stuffing their pockets while they're colleagues suffer. That's bs. I don't think it's as obvious as you think. Not every team has BoxeR and Jessica to help them get sponsorships.
I now have autographs of both BoxeR and NaDa. I can die happy. Lim Yo Hwan and Lee Yun Yeol FIGHTING forever!

wow. NASL you went over and beyond trying to accommodate these guys and they pretty much just spat in your face. $2000 for each player that makes it to the grand finals? $2000 and they STILL say no? For a chance to win up to 50k?? There's no way $2000 can't cover flights for the player and some of the hotel cost, if not all of it if it's a cheap place. This is just sad.

However, I will still fully support NASL and look forward to the new season! I'm not gonna stop supporting the growth of e-sports just because some Koreans aren't satisfied with making a potential butt-ton of money. Still a ton of great players to watch and they're also players I can better identify with, being an american citizen. I love a lot of the koreans, but they have GSL and there still may be some Koreans playing in NASL as well. Best of luck to NASL and I'm looking forward to season 2!
