It's too new, and doesn't have the backlash (^_^) that Slag Pits does. I actually didn't mind slag pits all that much.

Havent seen much of the new 4 yet, but given that 3 of the 4 maps theyre removing were mediocre at best I'd say chances are good this will work out alright

apparently blizzard doesn't want to make their game better. backwatergulch is one of the worst maps ever made and they're going to keep that instead of metalopolis. what did they just draw maps out of a hat or something!

Does anyone know if they are leaving shattered temple with close spawns?

Many people are whining about taking out Metalopolis but come on, give Blizzard a break. They are finally removing Scrap Station AND Delta Quadrant, excellent. If statistics indeed say it's imbalanced, let's believe them on this one. Besides, it's refreshing to see new maps. I am afraid I do have to thump down at Tal'Darim because PvP is just horrible (you have to 4 gate), even though I like the other 2 matchups a lot on it. All other maps now seem to have a ramp you can block with 1 FF (unlike Scrap, which was the main reason I thumped it down in S2). How the FUCK can you give someone a break when they remove a map for a reason, but keep another map (shattered temple) in the pool when it has the EXACT same problem. It just goes to show their fucking incompetence. Maybe because meta has been around for a year now and still shows problems while shattered has only been on around for a few months and Blizzard wants to see if given more time the current data will change. Calm down. That's the most stupid logic i've ever heard in my life. Shattered temple shares the same problem as metalopolis what part of this do you not understand? Look i'm trying to be nice here, but it doesn't take a genius to understand this.
I really don't see how my logic is that far fetched and I really don't believe it's the most stupid logic you've ever heard in your life either. I'm not saying I don't understand the fact they have the same problems. I think giving a map that has been around about 1/4 the time as meta more time in the pool to see if it keeps following what their data is telling them now much more of a reasonable answer than just throwing it out only after a few months of play.

Metal is an old map, and had close spawn issues. I would have preferred Temple being removed instead, since its just a LT clone and thus is quite old.
I am happy that I am getting all three of my vetoes back since Scrap, Delta, and Pits are being removed.

Pretty good removals overall. Yes, Metalopolis will be missed, but it wasn't going to stick around forever. The other three were frankly bad maps that most people had vetoed.

So many people crying "it's the end of the world!" with Metal removed. Hilarious. It was time, it's run its course. Blizzard will keep the map pools fresh, and substitute old maps for new ones. Everyone knows this is the case, and anyone complaining about it now has had blinders on for far too long.

there was only one map out of the original mappool which is still seen often in tourneys, because it is very balanced and playable with the little fix of the close positions, that was metal and blizzards conclusion out of this is not maybe to fix the close positions in the ladder version... no they remove it
cant follow your thoughts guys, really cant follow it...

Can't believe they got rid of Meta; the one map that they really got right. But if they're removing scrap and delta, it almost balances out to be a neutral move. If only they had removed typhoon and kept meta.
Also they really need a 3 player map (for 1v1).

Good choice to remove Metapolis, we need map rotation and that map has just been around a little too long now. It's sort of like Python in BW, we all loved it and played hundreds of games on it but after a while most of us agreed it was time to look at new maps instead (there was a time when ICCUP had Python in every MOTW for a long time).

i really enjoyed testing the maps out, from the POV of a platinum protoess who is nowhere near good enough to feel the imbalance that everyone is going on about, i think the new maps play great. a lot better than the ones they're replacing (with the exception of Metal obv)

All this talk about Meta begs the question, why is Xel'naga Caverns still in?

why the hell is backwater gulch staying in the mappool? thats a horrible map

Kaivax Community Manager In Season 3, we’re introducing a number of changes to the map pool; we’re dropping some older maps, and adding a number of new ones. One of the more notable changes we’re making is the removal of Metalopolis. We realize that this is quite a popular map, and we wanted to discuss the reasons why we might make such a change and hopefully lay some of your concerns to rest. We also would like to point out that merely because a map has been removed from the pool, does not mean that it will never make a return in the future. Despite its flaws, Metalopolis has strong potential to be a map that returns in future ladder seasons.
Still, there are reasons why we decided to retire Metalopolis for now:
Metalopolis has been around for quite a long time, over a year including beta. We felt that taking it out of the rotation would make some room for variety in the map pool.
Metalopolis suffers balance issues when close spawn positions occur, but becomes too predictable when they are simply disabled. Close positions have been under a lot of discussion lately, and we’re definitely examining better options to allow for random spawn positions across the map pool without also creating too much predictability and vulnerability to proxy rushes.
Overall balance has also proven to be an issue on Metalopolis -- even factoring in close position spawn issues. It’s among the least balanced maps currently in the ladder pool, and along with Scrap Station (also being removed) and Tal’darim Altar, has a heavy (60%+) bias toward zerg at the highest levels of play.
If Metalopolis makes a return to the ladder pool in the future, it will likely receive some balance tinkering, much like that administered to Lost Temple which resulted in the creation of Shattered Temple. In the meantime, we hope that you enjoy the fresh maps that have been added to the ladder pool in Season 3.
They should add this to the OP so people stop arguing meta is the most balanced map in the pool, and also realize GSL maps are not the best maps in the world. They have flaws just like blizz maps. Tal'Darim was never balanced. And i don't think crossfire is even close to being balanced, it's one of the worst maps in the pro scene.
Edit: Engrish.

Good choices on map removals. Now if only the maps they were adding were good...

wtf blizzard... T_T I don't see why they remove a good map and put in some pretty dicey looking maps...

Really? you liked slag pits? you like having zero viable options for a 3rd? You liked having rush distances on close spawn that were closer then any other map ever (including Incineration zone)

Well I think it would have been too big of an surprise to remove both Meta and Xel at the same time, both are huge favorites. Also as far as I know Xel is considered more balanced by Blizzard.

Ooh, three of the maps removed were the ones I had downvoted. And I did like Metal (short of close positions) but it is really really old and its probably for the best we got rid of it. It and Scrap were the only maps still left from the beta.
