The way I'm reading it:

A KR version of the game still connects to the KR servers, while a TW version still connects to the Taiwan servers. It's just the servers that are linked.

Which means that if you buy a TW account, and use it from the US, you are connecting to a server in Taiwan, which in turn relays traffic to korea. I'm guessing a US - TW connection is worse in terms of latency then a US - KR.

Or am I wrong here?

(Same logic would hold for EU/RU and NA/LA. Which means that it is probably beneficial to own a copy of the game in your own region, latency wise, because the connection from server to server is likely to be better then when you connect to a far away server on your own.)

Nah, to me it sounds like the old server is simply gone and they go on the new bigger server.

A. Your MMR will be unaffected by region linking. Placement matches will be handled the same way for the start of Season 3 as they were for Season 2.

I really wonder about this. It's unlikely that a specific MMR corresponds to the same skill level on the different servers, because the players haven't faced each other before. This means that there has to be some sort of adjustment when the ladders are joined. Maybe even a painful adjustment (loss streak) for some players.

It's gonna be reseted for LA players. We will have to start from scratch our MMR

You mean the information for the LA players is different than the one above? Where did you hear this?

Translation:

Q. How does this affect my MMR? Will I need additional placement matches?

Q. When season 3 starts and we merge regions, your MMR will be reseted, that means you will have to play again your placement matches. This is because we cannot use your current MMR... blah blha blhah... etc.

I think this means NA MMR won't be affected, but LA MMR will be reseted... That's why the info is different.

Well since these locations are held on the same servers (as anyone that's spent any time pulling data from [us|eu].battle.net would know), I can't say I'm suprised. la, ru, and tw have been the bottom 3 servers in size from day 1.

nah, the Taiwanese always wanted their server to be merged with the Koreans since their server is also located in korea

yeah, its actually one server split into 2 half. I think the reason for doing this is the population of Tainwan/LA/RUS is just too little.

This is from the FAQ, which is why I have my doubts:

Q. Will playing with players from the linked region impact my in-game latency?
A. All players in the linked regions will be connecting and playing through the same data centers that they were using prior to region linking, which is the main reason why linking these regions together is fairly straightforward. There should be no impact on game performance.

Ah, that clears it up. Just don't understand why they were seperated in the first place then ;p.

There is one thing that game to my mind now. How will the GM Ladder work on these servers ? Will there be 2 different ladder ? Will they also be merged, or will it become the 400th best people ?

Anyone knows? ^^

Good news, but Blizzard's news post makes it sound like they're so gracious for doing this when it should have been that way in the first place.

I think it will be just the top 200 of the newly combined regions. Everyone in the smaller region of the respective merges (LA, TW, RU) will have their MMR reset so even their old GMs will be starting from scratch.

Mostly payment plans I believe. Blizzard's answer to that question was that because players from diferent regions had diferent prices/payment plans, like montly fees or 6 months limited editions, they couldn't be on the same servers. I guess finally that stopped being a problem for them.

In Korea wasn't the game even free if you had an WoW active account?

This is actually pretty cool news. Was getting tired of playing ladder and playing the same opponent 3 times in 4 matches.

Anyone have insight on what they're doing with the GrandMaster?

i don't know whether to be happy that they've finally done this small step toward how it used to be in BW or angry because it's still not how it used to be in BW...

either way, this is a good thing
yet i still don't understand why this couldn't've been like this from the beginning

From the TW bnet website, they will all be merged which means

1 ladder
200 gm spots for THE one and only TW + KR server(same with US+LA/EU + RU whatever)

Seriously though, as long as this doesn't cause lag issues I don't see an issue with it.

You sir is a total idiot. (:
Everyone knows that the two regions are hosted on the same server, so there won't be any latency problems.
And this 'HUEHUE' laugh is really outdated. Brazilians used it instead of the North American 'ROFL' or LMAO' like 10 years ago. Nowadays we all use the standard "hahaha" laugh.
Also, the "GIB WINZ PLS" is the equivalent to the North American "LOL F***** F**** YOU B****" from 13 yo kids.
