yeah it's a bit odd how wheat filibustered the twitch thing. he said it doesn't matter but considering how twitch is the vehicle for the majority of esports broadcasts it's a huge deal.

All the upvotes for you. I love wheat for most things, but his lack of impartiality when it comes to things eg, twitch etc is where his character flaws really show. It was pretty much bullshit of wheat to try to sweep the issue under the rug and try to tell slasher it doesn't matter and it's a waste of time to talk about. I'm glad slasher called him out when he said it has nothing to do with esports, when every esport event is viewed on twitch.
The number one concern people have with twitch is them abusing their monopoly and downgrading their service. This is a case of twitch downgrading their service and people have the right to be upset about it. What does wheat do? He doesn't take the redeye route of, yeah it's an important issue but cause of my ties to twitch I don't want to get too into it, but the issue is noted. Instead, he tries to berate slasher into thinking that this is a non issue and it's a waste of time to even discuss.
He tries to hide behind the excuse that he can't do anything about it, so it's a non issue. I'm sorry, but just because wheat can't do anything personally about it, does not mean it's a non issue and not an important thing to discuss. You can't do a thing about a lot of things in the world, doesn't mean issues aren't important or shouldn't be talked about.
It's a huge issue and one that people like the gunrun and the twitch twitter account took seriously. That rant by wheat was one of the most bullshit downplay of a legit issue I've seen from him in a while.
Edit: And now twitch has reversed their downgrade due to user feedback. Great move by twitch on listening to everyone's reaction to it, which just shows that wheat was wrong and it was an important issue to talk about.
Twitch @TwitchTV
Starting right now, transcodes for new broadcasts are: Low (360p) Med (480p) High (720p). Thank you all for the valuable feedback!

Dunno what downgrading you're talking about, I've not had any issues or noticed any significant changes between the 360/480/720 settings and low/med/high. :s

Ummmm that's because twitch reverted the changes due to the outcry. Complaints about it were posted on sc, dota and lol reddit and all over twitter. If you never noticed it before they reverted it back, then that just means you don't have an eye for differences in video quality because it was very apparent that medium was not 480p.

I guess you're right, I watched almost exclusively on High. :/

Yeah it wasn't as much of an issue at high. That was still 720p with reduced bitrate of 1500kbs from 2000kbs. However, after the reverted changes people on reddit are saying 720p is back to 2000kbs. A lot of people watched 480p due to their internet speeds or other reasons.
I watched 480p cause I have a monthly bw cap from isp and 720p eats up bw too fast. 480p was still acceptable quality for me to watch most things. However, after the downgrade, medium became pretty much garbage and any time there was movement the stream would turn into a pixellated mess. With them reverting the changes, it's fine to watch things on medium now.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/LiveOnThreeOMGTV i'll keep it updated from now on. it still needs plenty of descriptions tho - working on that. i just couldn't stand another week without a RSS.

Thank you so much for this! I mainly listen on my phone, so being able to put the feed into my podcast app is much better than listening through the web browser. Would be awesome if you did it for Inside the Game too.
