Agreed, the maps leave a lot to be desired. I feel the emphasis on quick games/hard 3rds is a step backwards, however I also do appreciate varity. Please please please don't make me play de_dust2 again!

Really......really. They use one of the 2 or 3 sentences they write about the maps, to tell us they made sure the game is balanced for each spawn location. My god. Each and every update regarding maps just makes me fear for the future of the ladder.

Dude when I first started playing CS we played so many more maps than people do now. Now days its Dust_2 and office, and that's why I can't stand CS anymore. Also people need to realize that ladder is for very mild practice, and more for fun. These maps look FUN, and I don't want GSL maps every match.

I agree that some of the release ladder maps were pretty bad but it has gotten to the point where if blizzard releases a map it's automatically bad due to the current bandwagon. As for the rocks and hard to take thirds... personally I don't like it when breaking down rocks completely opens up my natural but it can be dealt with. And I don't really understand what people need in a thrid base? Apart from Scrap Station I don't really have a hard time taking a third on any of the maps. I think these maps look fun and they are a improvement on what we have had in the past. Are they terrible? Possibly, but try playing a least a game or two on them before we write them off as terrible.

Maybe fun for you, but I don't certainly like my third getting bombed by siege fire from tanks in your main.

This means that the map won’t be strictly about the rush, even though it’s a rush map. That map looks really terrible for any race looking to hold off 1 or 2 base timing pushes. :X Not to mention massive chokes outside the natural means easy defending w/ FFs or siege tanks. No open assault area.

Is it too much to ask that we wait and test them out a bit and see how the game develops on these maps? Since this pops up every 2-3 pages: even though you have a point, the TL-community has been REALLY good at calling out crappy maps. Slag pits and backdoor gulch have been denounced to be awful 1-2 days after their IMAGES were available. Pros have immediately started to critizise the very open natural of typhon peaks, and this exactly has proven to be a problem in many PvZ games. On the contrary, people have taken one glimpse at shakuras and "decided" that it will be an awsome map. To be honest, I think the TL-community is competent enough to at least make a "probably good - probably bad" prognosis. And even if it may seem that Blizz maps are automaticly "hated" on while custom-made-maps are automaticly less critizised: I'd bet my sc2 key that if you let people vote on good maps that should be used on ladder without them knowing which were from Blizz and which custom-made, that the custom-made ones would win. EDIT: On June 22 2011 03:28 Snorkle wrote: Why does blizzard stick us on these shitty "municipal" courses when there are many "pebble beaches" out there to be had? Just because your "score" will probably be worse on pebble than on your local course doesn't mean you wont enjoy the experience if you love golfing. I have to say I LOVE this comparison, well done, Sir. Blizz should really take into account that even noobs might start to enjoy beautiful, carefully designed maps even if it means they aren't as succesful on them.

EVEN the SMALLER community-made-maps are WAY better than the Blizzard ones. It's NOT simply the "we want larger maps", there are many cool small/medium-sized maps that I would prefer to the ones just announced. - Dual Sight - Testbug - Crossfire - Xel Naga Fortress I'd prefer each and every one of these maps to each and every one of the small/medium-sized maps Blizz has EVER made - with the exception of Xel Naga Caverns. Blizz needs to get over the "blah the hardcore-community just complains about maps being not big enough" and start to realize that even in this department the custom-made-maps are better.

If only there was some way to check of maps that you don't agree with. If there only was some way to increase the number of maps checked off... As we dont know which maps will rotate out, this is a very bold statement. If slagpits and DQ stay in the pool there are not many options to check off new maps.

Map 1: No third to speak of but easy natural. 2 base play from toss will be very strong. Good to bad: Terran Toss Zerg Map 2: Holy crap did they learn nothing from the response to steppes of war. Not only that, it's all chokes. Colossi and Tanks will be fun to deal with. Good to bad: Terran Toss Zerg Map 3: Yet another map which consists of nothing but tight chokes. Easy FFE. Forcefield really strong here. Tanks strong here. Hard 3 basse. Good to bad: Terran Toss Zerg Map 4: Wouldn't call it a macro map but it is better than the others. Cramped for the number of bases there are. Easy for toss to get 3 bases and get their deathball. Tanks strong for similar reasons with all the chokes. Good to Bad: Toss Terran Zerg What do we learn: blizzard seems to think that an easy natural means a macro map and that zerg is overpowered on 1 base more than opponents. I am not sure who told them that smaller maps are better. Watch out for toss in the future on these maps.

Crossfire is just a tank and forcefield fest. The interessing point will be: Which maps will Blizzard remove? I think Scrap Station and Delta Quadrant will be out. THis maps are in the map pool since the beginning and are not played much. Kerrigan’s Wrath looks so similar to Backwater Gulch. So I think we won't see Backwater in the new map pool I think that one of the following maps will be removed too: Xel Naga, Metal or Shattered Temple. Shifted Sky Has a simmilar Layout to Metal and Temple. So it could be that one of these maps will be removed. In conclusion: Maps will removed: Scrap Station, Delta Quadrand, Backwater Gulch, Xel Naga OR Metal OR Shattered Temple Maybe new Mappool: "Rush maps": Kerrigan’s Wrath, Slag Pits, 1v1Test1 "Normal Maps" : Shifted Sky, Xel Naga, Metalopolis, Typhon Peaks "Macro Maps": Tal'Darim Altar, Shakuras Plateau, 1v1Test4 It is not what most people hope for season 3 but it is a better map pool then the current. You can just put your votes on what you don't like (Rush / Macro Maps) and have a good map pool to play ladder. Where I see problems is, that the mappool from ladder and tournaments is going more appart. So ladder will not be optimal to practice for tournaments. That can result in a Top 200 players that are not really Top 200. Players which are playing lot of tournaments will do their practice much more on custom games and don't play that much ladder. Worse player just play mass ladder games and are higher ranked then other players.
