They're all mad that they don't get 3rds as easy as Tal'Darim Altar, Terminus, and Crevasse. They basically want their bases handed to them while they haphazardly defend pushes with 3 forcefields or minimal roaches/lings/blings. Really, I don't get half the reactions of these people complaining that Blizzard is full of mapmaking idiots. We can all DEFINITELY play on these maps, and there are no glaring advantages for any race or spawn. Just a bunch of people indirectly complaining about how they don't like 4 person maps, rotationally symmetric maps, mirrored maps, and maps that aren't Tal'Darim Altar 2, 3, 4, and 5.


Not trying to burst your bubble but you don't speak for the community and these sentiments might not be popular on TL. Cheers.


I'm well aware of the differences I share with a great deal of the community, but there are also quite a few people out there who share my sentiments. Bottom line, these maps aren't garbage. You're not going to log in, play on these maps, and then lose every single game on them, or even most games. I'm just trying to bring a little bit of my perspective into the discussion, regardless if many people don't agree.

Not one single blue poster on these maps yet. I'd love to hear someone who knows what they're talking about give a comment, but I guess it's too late for that.

I really don't like the whole "fire and brimstone" map sets. They're really dark, and it's particularly difficult to tell creep from noncreep and to notice shadows from burrow moved units.

Blizzard should just put rocks everywhere for all the maps. Your natural will have rocks in it, your RAMP will have fucking rocks, your GAS will be covered in rocks, every single expansion will have rocks in it, if you want to access watch towers you need to kill rocks, and every single path in the map will be stopped by rocks.

Zerg, Terran, and Protoss' worst enemies aren't each other, they are rocks. Who would have thought that intergalactic war in the future with all of it's technologies will still be troubled by rocks.

This was sad news to me, I had some hope in me that Blizzard would finally take to their senses and use popular tournament maps for the ladder instead of making their own maps few wants to play.

Here how I think this will play out. The first map has a complete lack of a third base, forcing 1 and 2-base play. The second map is going to make us all wonder why Steppes of War is back in the pool as a 4-player map. I'm already expecting Protoss opponents to cut my army in half on the third map. And the fourth map, is it just me or does it look like siege tanks can hit your main from the plateau of the third?

Why can't Blizzard just let us play a decent collection of tournament maps?

actually they are so good, they seem, we can do all ins, or if we want we can do any type of macro play. and 2rax will be hard. just at the first map toss deathball will be unstopable because of the narrow chokes. ffs will be deadly for any zerg. but the other maps seem really nice.

I think Blizzard is trying too hard with that rush map concept and map concepts in general. They should make maps that are more standard (in terms of less destructible rocks and stuff), rely on actual architecture of the map to make it interesting, have rushes and macro play viable on the same map.

holy shit, you know how zerg can burrow through the ground? what if they could burrow through rocks?? I seriously hope they implement this change in HoTS, as it would not only synergize well with Blizzard's rock affinity, but promote interesting, timing based gameplay!

Hopefully they will at least remove most of the god awful maps so one can veto decently and give us something a bit more acceptable....

Because blizzard hates macro.

Map 1v1 #2 looks just like a re-skin of Backwater Gulch. Oh goodie. And their "macro" map seems a little small in the pictures, but maybe it's bigger ingame.


Also, wtf is with their retarded team maps? In the 2v2 ones there is 1 super easy expo per side, wtf, so 1 person gets to expo and the other cant? Okay

And with 3v3 and 4v4 the same problem, there is always 1 less easy expansion than there are players per side. Apparently blizzard doesn't know how to count. Not to mention 3v3 #2 looks like a remake of Ulaan Deeps or whatever it's called.


I appreciate them trying to make things interesting but I wish they would put more effort into making good maps. Idk about you, but if almost every tournament in the world that was using my game had different maps than what I make I would take a hint from that, but whatever I guess.

Gotta love how people will keep on complaining about maps regardless of whether the maps are good or bad. Personally, I think these maps are fine as is. Once the community gets a chance to play on them, we can then determine how good of maps they are. Nice to see more open areas in the middle and being able to double exp on map 4 sounds great :D

Honestly don't like any of these maps at all.

1. Looks really boring. Third has destructible rocks is gold AND has a cliff right above it....
2. Looks just like backwater gulch but smaller. Seriously Blizzard?
3. Looks just like Slag Pits rofl... Close spawns will be super short. Don't like the low ground expansions. And center is full of tight chokes.
4. Looks OK. Taking a fourth seems a little weird and it looks too easy to turtle on three bases. Terminus RE added rocks to third for a reason.

God just add the damn GSL maps, everyone likes them and they're so much better than these crappy maps Blizzard are making.

I think the ladder maps should be the ones that are played in tournaments, i think they should add crevase and some other gsl maps, remove close position imbalance, ramp blocking and THEN add 1 or 2 maps that have potential (like 3rd or 4th that seem quite nice).

I Blizzard keeps furthering the ladder from tournament practice then noone good is going to play it anymore.

My issue is mainly with the first and third maps. On the sky map I think that banshees from Terran will completely destroy. Think about the open space behind the main and the long distance between the mineral line on the natural and the mineral line on the main for any infantry to traverse to deal with banshees :/
