Casting: The casting is great at times, terrible at other times... Both casters understand the game well, which I think is important -- I like to feel confident that the caster know's what he/she's talking about and I get that with these casters. But there are some major problems as well. Incontrol comes off as overly self-conscious / sensitive. When a musician misses a note they don't say "Oh sorry!" in the middle of a performance (hopefully that makes sense). Also it's weird having someone both playing in and casting for the same tournament. Gretorp trips over his words too much and uses some strange/awkward sounding sentences. I do < 3 you guys (Incontrol and Gretorp), sorry. I even prefer these casters over some of the IGN casters such as TotalBiscuit, HD, and Catzpajamas, but for a league with a prize pool so big I would make an effort to get the best casters possible for season 2 at the latest, because right now it's just not working well enough. Studio: I don't see why having a desk is necessary for games that are being played online. It feels almost like trying too hard or something. TSL and IPL are doing fine without any live shots of the commentators. Dreamhack and GSL have live shots of both players, casters and audience so the desk set up makes much more sense in those environments. Editing: Obv. needs improvement. Random music seems to pop in and out at random times (rap at the same time as the commentators talking seemed particularly out of place). Abrupt transitions between games. Audio balance problems. Etc. Overall: Great line up of players, cool format and nice prize pool will keep me watching probably at least a game per day. Everything else needs work.

I have really enjoyed the games I've seen this week. Things have been much smoother for me, so I feel like things are moving in the right direction. Audio still needs work, obviously.

It's worth pointing out that IPL has more newness factor and each match is more crucial in terms of determining who wins the tournament so it's not really a fair comparison at this point. NASL will have a higher viewer count overall considering there are more games.

1. a lot of really great games due to the extremely hq lineup, apart from artosis :-P, 2. average casting, there are way to many excuses for small mistakes from incontrol. it interrupts the cast quite heavily, and gretorp reminds me of the friendly neighbor from next door. 3. a very, very poor production quality. inexcusable. also seems a bit arrogant to disregard the pre-show critiques by saying to just tune in in 30 minutes. to be blunt, it sucks hardcore, that theres a boring 30 minute pre-show, but no break inbetween the games. small previews of each game, containing information from the current pre-shows and reducing said one to a few minutes ist not only more professional, but also a lot more comfortable for the viewer.

Other than that, the video quality is fantastic. The casting isn't my favourite, but it doesn't detract from the matches which is fine. If I had one quick constructive comment about the casting would be that Geoff needs to stop talking once in awhile. When Gretorp is talking, Geoff is always in the background going "OH"... "STALKERS" etc, you can tell he wants to talk. This is a pretty minor complaint even though I realize talking about it makes it sound worse than it is. Likely this stuff will get better over time. EDIT: I mean the quality of the VODs, I havent watched the stream. Also i agree the framerate is annoying but I thought it was just my laptop having a hard time handling 1080p. If it's not, the framerate is definitely the worst part.

Having to babysit the volume button is pretty annoying too. Have to agree with that, at the moment (Day 2-4) the sound is still off. It barely fluctuates anymore, but whilst the caster's voices are on both channels the music + ingame sounds are limited to one channel. Makes for a rather irritating audio experience. On a more positive note, pretty much everything else has improved greatly, be it stream quality / stability or casting. Not that all stream issues were to blame on NASL to begin with, as justin.tv was having issues on it's own. Choppy stream is a thing of the past for the majority of the broadcast time (occasional hicups do happen) and despite getting a lot of unjustified criticism at the start of NASL incontrol and gretorp have grown by a huge margin as casting team and stepped up their casting considerably. Sound problems excluded, NASL has constantly improved since the start and has been fantastic to watch.

Close positions are a legitimate concern, pronounciation is a minor issue though (at least in my opinion).

2. get some new casters. personally not a big fan of either gretorp or incontrol, i can see how someone can justify keeping in control as he started it etc. but get rid of gretorp. best situation scenario get rid of both they are aweful casters, no hard feelings and no offense. 3. Learn from IPL, now THAT is a well run tournament.

Gretorp... well. I really want to like Gretorp, and I don't have a problem with his casting in-game. It's in-between games where it gets awkward/painful for me. He never seems to know what to say, and he doesn't pick up and run with anything incontrol says - e.g (just watching live now) Inc has some great spot humor ("the only good bug is a dead bug", "pexels are what's on my chest") but Gretorp's response is usually just "What? What? What? No. Anyway...". So painful!

That being said, my only qualm about NASL is professionalism. I can forgive technical issues, and match schedule mishaps, editing problems and sound issues. Those are all pretty standard things when working with a new studio and a new league. I am actually pretty impressed with how NASL is dealing with those issues and their professionalism with fixing and addressing the spectators concerns. But back to my main point and to Paradices post before mine, between matches after and before there is a LOT of non sc/sc2/NASL related conversation. Gretorps reciting of the "M" states comes to mind. Now I also understand the studio is new and InControl and Gretorp are under a lot of pressure but I don't think these situations even need to arise. Just make the breaks between games a little shorter, and stay focused on the games. Jokes and funny jabs will always have their place in casting of course, but stay more on the topic of the matches. Less trying to awkwardly fill silence. A great example is Artosis and Tasteless.[Not to compare in any sense, they have been doing this for a long time] Often they have little rambling things/stories/jokes, but for the most part its sc/sc2 related jokes, or some background information joke on a player (i.e. Fruitdealer dealin his fruit) I feel that there is a rather clear line of professionalism in casting between funny jokes and discussion/jokes that is not about the league/players/games. Good job though guys, impressed with how its going so far being essentially built from the ground up. EDIT: oGs.Mc throws a chalice filled with the blood of a thousand innocents. I don't find this professional, funny, or appropriate for some of the viewers that I am sure watch.

Maybe a happy medium between that and IGN's 3-second delays between games? well I think its good for inc and gretorp to talk a bit about the match expecaly if it went really long or got crazy I really don't like IPL's stat screen that doesn't make any difference to me and then go into the next match no matter what just happened.
