Does anyone else remember the first season of GOMtv? They had an enmormass amount of problems as well. It took a while for them to get it sorted as well. At first Tasteless and Artosis were not working well together, the observing was terrible, and the stream would always go down. Give them a few weeks, it will be fixed.

True. I just wish NASL had waited with charging money for VODs and HQ-stream until they could verify that things were running smoothly. I think alot of the critism comes from people (like me) who were happy to pay for the HQ-stream only to discover that NASL was still in beta-mode.

Honestly I think the commentators are doing a good job. NASL also have great players signed up to play. When NASL started I was really looking forward to the matches. I really want to support NASL.

But having said that I'm going to take a break from watching NASL until the stream becomes stable enough to be watchable here in Europe with a decent resolution. I have a limited amount of time to devote to SC2 per week due to this other thing called life . I don't want to spend that limited time being frustrated over a streaming service that doesn't deliever.

I'm sure NASL will continue improving and I will be back to watch eventually.

I was quite disturbed by the Starcraft music during the talk before the matches. It kind of detracts from the introduction and feels kind of hypnotizing. I feel the music is an asset during the matches and I also think that commentators and match potential is second only to GSL, not least because Gretorp and iNcontroL improved hugely. By comparison I tried to enjoy IPL even after the results were leaked and while IPL had enormously promising production, the casting immediately put me off.

I can not stand Gretorp. He fumbles every second word and is simply not meant to be a caster. No offense to the guy, but in order for NASL to survive past season 3, they need to really look at replacing him. He will bring NASL down.

Do you think that he hasn't improved at all (I think he has) and that he won't be able to do so going forward? Why is that?

Gretorp's voice is awesome this time. Its got that nice warm tone, as a caster should always be mixed as. Geoff's voice needs less compression or a different mic because of how he likes to really enunciate his words. Transitional music is real nice, but in-game music again is just distorting because the levels are too hot, and basically isn't adding anything but noise during big battles.

It is a hell of a lot of an improvement since yesterday so I appreciate you guys addressing the sound issues which to me is the biggest issue atm to reaching a professional production.

They need an Art Director or Producer with a design background.

The truth is, the IPL's execution of their design concept (a fighting game/comic book motif) is NOT that great (the actual artwork and graphics are quite amateurish).

But they HAVE a concept, and it is consistent and carried throughout the production reasonably well; from the "character" screens to the Street Fighter voice to the background music. I even like have Total Biscuit refers to players in red and blue trunks.

It's this kind of consistency in production and design that makes the overall package feel more 'professional', and creates the illusion of a higher quality product. Because the truth is, the actual games lack any substance. The player pool, tournament format, and prize are inferior.

It's a shame. I can think about 20 to thirty things that can be done to improve the overall 'look' of the NASL, and it wouldn't have material cost or be difficult technically. It only takes time and an experienced eye.

He has improved a bit, but he simply doesn't have the speaking skills needed to be a broadcaster. Gretorp can't "talk good" in any sense of that incorrectly phrased phrase. He can improve, but his tongue is retarded. It fumbles with simple words, and his brain struggles to catch up to his shit casting skills.

There is a reason IPL is beating NASL in viewers. That is Gretorp. To anyone with any sense of intelligence and a grasp of the English language, he is BAD. Please for the sake of the NASL, replace him NOW! I am not an NASL hater. In fact, I want them to succeed. There is one clear solution to the problem that can easily be fixed. Bring on Diggity!

Fix the sound. It shouldn't be that difficult. Months of preparation and two weeks into broadcasting but it is still an issue. We can even hear a loud mouse clicking now.

Also what is the difference between commercials and having to sit there watching a logo? There isn't any. This is a bit of a false advertisement when free and paid users both have to wait the same amount of time.

*Added*

At one point they were playing music so loud you can barely hear the casters.

I think and entirely honestly, for the paid viewers instead of commercials and a blank screen you provide something like a "ask the pros" section where we find more out about our favourite players. Not necessarily strats or anything but like something where they talk about their favourite movie or their aspirations or something interesting like that.

I think that the casters need some work. A lot of times they will make an assumption like "i dont think he can hold this!" and then 2 seconds later... oh wait i guess i was wrong. And then in that same match they will commentate something like "i like this play i really like this play" and then 2 seconds later they say "oh wait... this isn't good." another comment i like was in moonglade vs nada where the casters were saying something along the lines of "he doesnt have upgrades which could really hurt him!" and then 2 seconds later "oh wait what am i saying he has 1/1 upgrades." It seems as if every comment that is made is incorrect and all you hear is "wait i was wrong" or "doesn't look like he is doing what i just said" and it REALLY throws off the pace of the game.

i think he should stick to the fluff of the casting and leave the analysis to incontrol imo

Seriously, how the hell is NASL edited, and still retain mouse clicking and keyboard typing sounds in the middle of the cast? InControl pulls this shit on State of The Game but is too bullheaded to stop it because he says he doesn't want it to be professional, but on NASL, he still doesn't fix the mouse and keyboard sounds?

Also, random hiphop music clips with lyrics in middle of commentating? It sounds like a 14 year old's YouTube video. Everyone in chat thought NASL was deliberately trolling all the viewers...

When you're going to try out something new, like music during the postgame recap or segments like when cheese fails, poll the community about it first. At the start of this you asked the community who they'd like to see play in the NASL, so why not do it again to find out if the additional, out of game content will be something they'd like? I think it could help curb the risk of trying new things out, too.

Heard a lot of mouse clicking today, found it annoying, also the sound of the stream raised dramatically in the last game for some unknown reason.

The problem here is that the casters are too humble, too knowledgeable, and too inexperienced.

If Total Biscuit or Tastetosis said a situation was unwinnable, and a player came back to win it, they wouldn't admit, "I guess we were wrong, sorry."

They would double-down and say, "What an AMAZING DEFENSE! WE ARE WITNESSING SC2 HISTORY FOLKS! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE IMPOOOOOOSSSSSSSSIIIIIBBBBLLLEEE!"

Casters make bad calls all the time, but others are better at covering it up.

I think worrying too much about what the community thinks will work is part of the problem.

For example, the reason why they added in-game music is because the community recommended it. Now the community is complaining about the in-game music being too loud or distracting.

In the meantime, IPL doesn't have in-game music (probably because it makes the balancing of audio even more complicated) and no one cares.

Throwing in post-game music or comedy segments are pretty low-risk experiments. If you wait around and ask the community for permission for every little creative decision, then the NASL would never improve. And just because you give people exactly what they ask for, doesn't guarantee that they'll like it.

Quoting for emphasis. This man sums it up brilliantly. The biggest thing lacking from the NASL (ignoring stream quality) is simple having a "polished" feel to it. NASL uses the blizzard ui and overlaid their own win counter... IGN made their own to display player names and wins... its those little things that just make the whole thing feel a bit more "shiny" and easy on the eye. The player info before the game was quick and to the point... and the stats about the game played at the end for the IGN was great!

I think IGN has shown NASL what it needs to do technically. I was watching their stream earlier and it was lightyears ahead of NASL. This whole 'low def' for non subscribers isn't going to fly. It works for gomtv because A: They're in korea so it's somewhat excusable. B: Their low def is watchable and the sound quality is still good.

Basically NASL is giving free viewers absolute trash quality - like they're using technology from the dawn of the internet and then expecting us to pay to get good quality. Well, people aren't going to pay money for what should be standard viewing. People pay money for the convenience of watching it in their own time - from the site. That's really the only distinction that should be made between pay and non pay customers.

And as far as the casters, incontrol is an intolerable abrasive loudmouth - gretorp is a soft spoken nice guy - nothing personal to either of them but they are a terrible casting duo. I don't mind listening to them once in a while but honestly i'd rather that NASL mixes it up because they aren't enough to carry the entertainment value for me on a regular basis.

Nasl low quality is actually fine, you can see everything in fullscreen. They should just stop using Jtv because it's baad.
