Really? Everything is casted live. Music videos are recorded live and movies are filmed live. This is not a livestream and in no way be called that. It's a pre-recoded gigantic VOD that we will be watching every day. Then that giant VOD will be cut up into smaller VODs so we can watch individual matches without FF through to find the ones we want.
I personally think this is a giant turn off and am dissapointed by this groundbreaking announcement. Also by the fact that they are essentially not allowing Koreans to play or teams to field all their players. Take EG for instance. They have more than 5 people who could do very well in this tournament. What happens to the guys who don't get picked? What is the point of them even staying on their team since it's only hurting them. EG will probably just make a 2nd team thats totally unrelated with the first one called Team B, because thats essentially what they are, so all players have an equal chance at getting their chance.
I could care less if this is purely NA or western or EU or w/e. I just want the best tournament we can possibly get. Not allowing players to play for w/e reason is a step back and is only hurting the viewers that are trying to watch the best content.

Not so much a question as it is a demand for you Duran, give me a job in the NASL!

One of the reasons for no more than 5 players per team is collusion. I don't understand how that's a valid point. Assuming team vs team matches are scheduled early in the division play, how can one player's play benefit another on their team? I might be dumb but if, player X on team X lost to player Y on team Y, i don't see how that benefits player Z on team X who's fighting player Y for a playoff spot.

The 5-team rule doesn't apply to many teams isn't a good excuse. You need to argue why the rule makes sense.
You want the 50 best players, and this "rule" stops that.
Colluding imo is not a good enough reason, I don't see how being "teammates" increases chances of colluding. You might as well say, any 5 "friends" or any 5 players who know each other on more than a professional basis can't play.
I don't really see many issues with teamkills in a league format.

Most of this sounds really great. I'm fine with prerecorded games if spoilers can be avoided (though a little more clarity about this would have been good - saying that something is "live" has a certain meaning to most people). Me and a couple other people asked very similar questions way back near the beginning of this and I think they got missed, so I wanted to try this again.
Is there any intention to switch in future seasons to a competitive, objective qualification system of some sort? (Top performers from previous seasons stay, new people replace poor performers based on challenge matches, qualification tournaments, performance in other already-existing tournaments, something like that.) I fully agree with covering people and stories being crucial to making it entertaining, but people covering other sports find those stories in whoever shows up - they don't pick the participants based on those stories. I really think some sort of objective qualification system is necessary for this to seem like a real competitive activity, rather than a reality tv show. (I am not really asking for the details of how this would work, which I assume haven't been decided yet - just whether the intention is to have some sort of system like this.)

LIVE Games?: The games will be cast live! When will the games be broadcast vs when they are cast? This depends on the production. Everything will follow a schedule of broadcasting, etc. We will produce an amazing product, that's what I can say.
Basically, can't give 100% answer about this because we are still working on improving our product and getting everything right for launch!
You should consider rewording this. Cast is just shorthand for broadcast, so when you say something is cast live then say it will be broadcast on a 24 hours later people are naturally going to be confused. Also the word "live" is a bit weird here. It's a 24 hour tape delay, nothing live about it. As long as you keep saying the word live people are going to keep coming in here asking for clarification.
EDIT:
Maybe say something like recorded live broadcasted 24 hours later? No ambiguity in that statement. Using cast and broadcast as if they mean different things, and then throwing in statements like "Cast Live!" or "Live games!" is going to make people feel like they're being lied to when they find out otherwise.

Sorry for being repetitive, and thanks a ton for the great thread, information, and league.
One thing that was unclear: If a Korean team (e.g,. IM or ST) were willing to front money to sponsor players to play from an NA location on the NA server (e.g., set up a house in rural Arizona where players would stay and train and probably be accused by the locals of being strange shut-ins), would the NASL allow them in the tournament with the same restrictions as any American team?
If so, I think this is a really positive step. Korean teams and leagues have been very accommodating to the foreign scene, I think they're due the same courtesy. Plus, from a business standpoint, it seems unreasonable to cut off so many potential fans. I can understand the hesitation because it may be more difficult to market Korean players to an American fan base, but Starcraft is Starcraft and Gameplay is Gameplay. I think when you're giving away SO MUCH MONEY (it really is a lot), you're obligated to allow everyone in the world an equal shot to compete for it.
I suppose the other downside is the possibility that a Korean wins and everyone is left upset because a tournament that was supposed to grow Western E-Sports had the prize money go to a well known Korean player, but, I think everyone on TL would be ecstatic if Jinro won GSL and we wouldn't think twice about the fact that the Korean sponsorship dollars were going to a foreign player.

Actually, the questionnaire is actually already up on the FAQ!

Aww, really sad that the games won't be streamed real live.
That was what it sounded like... Much more exciting that way.

Im sorry but this team shit goes too far.. now white ra cant compete because he hasn't gotten an offer he likes yet? I Believe you guys will have the success you seek but im going to be extremely pissed if you do not make revisions to this rule.

This and having to belong to a team (White-Ra). Seems to kill the part about having the best players in the world.

Imo, post-production will be a lot better than a live show. GSL can be live since players are in a studio and it's way easier to handle technical problems whereas players competing in a NASL season will be playing at their place. Also, the show will be way more interesting that way than a live show. Don't forget that this will be happening each day of the week so i don't know why you're complaining.
I am pretty sure the finals will be live casted and live streamed too. Well, hopefully.
Anyway, you should listen to SoTG...they laid out pretty much all the arguments.

Well anyways, as they said, this league will primarly focus on NA players... So I guess we shouldn't get our hopes high when it comes to EU players.

I suggest having one extra division that has all the "extras". The rest of the divisions would have no team kills.

Duckload counts as a team as per our definition of what a team is.

How is this fair for people who are really good but are not on a team? Some people in general do not want to be bound by contract's or feel like they are owned to someone.
Like it was just mentioned on state of the game, white-ra isn't on a team but a HUGE amount of people will want to see him.
What about ROOT?
This really doesn't seem fair and can see this causing conflicts of interests and potentially friendships falling out as we all know what people will do for money....

What is your team definition? Cause that's really strange since Duckload is not a team....

So, do you actually have to fly to LA for each one of your matches? I.e. The league is hoping that all good players will be re-locating to Los Angeles?
That works in Korea because teams are salaried and sponsered. Where as here the vast majority of good players wont have the resources to relocate their entire life. So I'm just curious as to how you are going to get around that?
