Look, I'm pretty sure the SC community would welcome a well spoken female caster with open arms if she had the personality/skill/voice to meet those credentials. I think you can see from the overall dissent that this is not the case here, plain and simple. Don't make this anymore that it needs to be, it's, I think a lot of people really enjoy the GSL and to replace Tastetosis for Code A, it needs to be Legit.
This. Not only welcome a female caster, but I'm sure 95% of TL would love a good female caster. Look at how crazy people went when there was a female at the GSL3 Open Qualifiers Female casters are very hard to find. It takes a very special woman to be able to cast SC2 and command respect from the viewers the way the Korean female casters do. Kellymilkies does not possess these qualities, in my opinion. didnt the female caster who co-cast with tasteless was basically hounded out of casting by a bunch of less-than-enlightened fans?

They rejected moletrap in favor of KellyMILKIES?
Moletrap is a super relaxed knowledgeable old school BW caster with great enunciation. As little trouble as I have understanding Kelly's accent . . . Moletrap is a damn good caster.

Hopefully someone gets that.
I read a post of his somewhere, where he said I'd do more StarCraft vids but I make more money doing wow related things. That's fine, that's how he makes a living so whatever. But don't try to become a huge part of the SC community as well. I'm all for SC getting as much exposure as possible, and I'm fine with people making money (and/or) living off of it as well. But when it comes off as selfish or greedy, it disgusts me.

I think many of us can agree on two things:
1. The GSL is as much the Tastosis Show as it is an SC2 tournament, and ideally we'd like them to cast everything.
2. Point #1 is unrealistic because they were already being overworked to bits.
The correct solution, of course, was to space out the GSL over a longer period of time instead of pushing out 3-6 hours of content a day. In January, they were burning out and we were burning out, and I got the sense that the only reason the GSL survived at all was the sheer quality of the Code S matches. It's unfortunate that they already committed to a schedule for all of 2011 in advance (although even so, they would have had to hire understudies for Tasteless and Artosis eventually so the show is sustainable long-term).
By the way, if you're ever hired for something very public, this is why it's unwise to break embargo or jump the gun on an announcement that hasn't come out officially. GOM is in an unfortunate position in that if they did hire Kelly after all (which I think is likely the case), now it looks like they were ignoring the community (never mind that they've only had one day's notice to see what an uproar there would be). And if they didn't, or if they go back on the decision, it's embarrassing for them and for her.
We know GOM is willing to make some last-minute fixes when things are looking bad - recall how they brought Jason Lee in for a few extra days when they realized it was a horrible idea to schedule Jørgen/XeqtR as a solo caster for a whole wad of games. But the thing is, we should expect them to do it professionally, and if they already told Kelly she's been hired, they're definitely going to let her stay for one season.
Finally, two possible scenarios I haven't heard considered:
1. Perhaps GOM hasn't made the official announcement because they just sent their first-choice candidates their offers, and are waiting for confirmation from the first round of people they asked. It's entirely possible that they weren't ready to announce the Code A casting team last night because they weren't 100% sure who the second one was yet. It sounds like very short notice, yes, but keep in mind that according to the Twitter post, Kelly didn't purchase her plane tickets until yesterday.
2. There may be more than two people hired to cast Code A, kind of like how the substitute casters were rotated around in GSL2, so GOM can try different pairings and see what works. (This is not all that likely, because I don't think they'd expect people to fly out to Korea for a one-season trial position... but hey, people have flown to Korea just to play in open qualifiers, so stranger things have happened.)
I'm probably overthinking this, though. Count on the official announcement being exactly what we expect/dread/etc.

Though I'm impartial on this issue, might want to point out that it was Assembly and not MLG that was the tournament involved. You wouldn't want to drag MLG into it for no reason. :D

I do hope this is a confirmation that Kelly Milkies won't be doing it, it is nothing personal at all - but I cannot understand what is being said by her when she gets excited and the action picks up - how can the GSL Code A matches be fun if I cannot follow them properly?

who is this she everyone is referring to? I apprently missed some type of caster changing debate

Its important to remember that we the community votes with our subscriptions. Simply refuse to pay for one with GSL march. I love sc2 and the gom VODs but here is how I see it.
1. favorite player is gone (Idra) 2. caster is hired whom i can't understand 3. foreigners are given auto qualify into code A (I'm sorry but haypro's I suck at zerg on a 2 rax all in rush map was pathetic showing, he does not deserve an auto qualify into code A). Especially after being told they will 99.9% chance 2rax scv all in you!!

lol no. I'll be paying for the full premium ticket no questions asked, because I like Starcraft 2. You should take a break from it.

Like Meany people have said in the past do not direct your anger about the new caster to Kelly but to GOM and a good way to show how serious is to not buying the premium ticket just so they understand how this community feels about it. I for one will want a refund from my Mar. Season ticket and will not buy another one till they change the code A casters.
|
I can't fathom how you would feel so strongly about it that you will forgo the awesome VODs of this GSL (It is shaping up to be the most competitive and exciting one yet, with new maps and many foreigners).

I'm not prepared to miss out on the games and the Tastosis casting - GOM kinda has me by the short and curlies as they've only changed a portion of what I love and I refuse to miss the other parts of it...
I watch a lot of the GSL while I work so I cannot always be looking at the screen so having a caster I cannot understand is going to make this much hard, Tastosis's play by play and overall casting made it so I could easily follow a game while working even if I couldn't look at the screen for awhile.
I am pretty sad about this, but in the end - it could be worse, I will still have so much SC2 to watch for my 56 Danish Crowns (about the price of a single beer where I live!).

Firstly, TB didn't apply, he can't go to Korea now due to family reasons. Secondly, TB said he was dialing back casting, not stopping. Thirdly, it was from Assembly Winter (Finland), not MLG, and it was a miscommunication, which TB acknowledged, and he said he was dialing back for financial reasons.
God, it isn't hard to get your facts right.

Dear GOMtv.net users and eSports fans: We are aware that a lot of you have been anxiously waiting for our announcement about Code A casters for GSL March. Artosis and Tasteless has requested that they would like some changes in their casting schedule. We valued their opinions and began searching for commentators and casters who would make GSL Code A a fun experience for our fans since then. Before we tell you who the casters for Code A will be, we want you to know that a lot of consideration has been given for this decision. It is true that many talented casters/commentators applied for the position and we are truly grateful for the attention we have received. However, due to many constraints that we were faced with including but not limited to time, geographical location, schedule conflicts and personal issues of other applicants, we could not help but choose an applicant who satisfied all the conditions and also had the talent for casting. This announcement does not mean that the search for the best commentators/casters for GSL Code A is over. With that being said, we at GOMtv would like to let you know that we will keep on improving to better serve our customers and the community and to contribute to the further development of eSports. For the time being, Tasteless and Artosis will take turns casting with Kelly "kellyMILKIES" Ong Xiao Wei for GSL March Code A. Kelly had a good resume and showed us that she was willing to adapt and improve as a caster. We are doing our best to find the best and most suitable caster for GSL Code A so for the time being, please show us your support for Kelly and GSL March. Thank you. About Kelly: Kelly "kellyMILKIES" Ong Xiao Wei is from Singapore. She started competitive gaming in 2005 playing CounterStrike 1.6 in both male and female teams. Kelly also plays Rockband/Guitar Hero and won several local tournaments. She played DOTA with the team PMS*Asterisk Girls and commentated with TobiWan at SMM in Singapore.
