I think some people are confusing "American" accent with californian accent. In the south, most people have a slight drawl, in the east you can hear the accent as well and I get really annoyed with sports commentators from the New England area because of their pronunciation. What we get on TV is a californian accent which is a very simple and dull version. Basically you don't accent anything while speaking, quite the opposite to most accents.

It seems just because of the time commitment. Early on in the tournament, they may end up casting 6+ hours a day.
6 hours a day... oh WOW. It's there job man. If I was in there position I would want to cast as much as possible since I 1) enjoy it and 2) get paid.
That ruins my day and expectations for Code A so lets hope it's not true. Australian or British accents are sexy btw, but she's annoying.
I knew this would come up eventually. Try talking enthusiastically for six hours a day, five (sometimes six) days a week, for two/three weeks straight. You will lose your voice. That's bad.
It's not as simple as "LOL REAL PEOPLE WORK 9 HOURS A DAY DEAL WITH IT".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they talk 6 hours straight for 5-6 days a week for 2-3 weeks.
Code S/A is spread out over 3 weeks and with each day the number of players drop. Looking at GSL 4 the most amount of casting they had to do was in the first few days in which they would do AT MOST 2 groups of 4 per day with a break between the groups.
About an average of 5 games per group. With an average of 20mins per game + pre/post game commentary.
"LOL REAL PEOPLE WORK 9 HOURS A DAY DEAL WITH IT" Don't put words in my mouth. I respect them and you should respect others.
I'm not putting words in your mouth, I'm just exaggerating. I guess I need to be serious, then.
Let's say your numbers are right, and remember that the amount of games played goes up every time the rounds go up. Doesn't matter. Typically, television personalities might work for an hour a day tops. Some work two hours, with two day breaks. The reason, is because they'll lose their voices. It's actually pretty common. Do you not hear tasteless' and artosis' voice breaking when they get excited later in S4? That's why.
Ever listened to talk radio? As for television personalities, and by that I assume you mean people like Bill O'Reilly, many of them have their own radio shows which they do everyday.
at first i was like oh people are just being a little bit harsh, then i actually heard her try to cast and i must say a retarded monkey could have done a better job and would have been more entertaining to watch then her talk
This might be a good news for me, GOM posted this after thread was made about kelly being code a caster. After all the things people commenting about her casting for GSL, they post this thread, YES!

I really hope that this wasn't a serious post. Anyway, whether or not Kelly is casting in English or any other language, I look forward to it.

Serious or not that post contributes nothing except hate.
People are freaking out too much, this is Code A people Tastosis will be casting Code S. I personally think she could improve significantly if allowed an opportunity to caste with GOM
I really liked the analysis of the Terminus map. Some interesting basic thoughts on the new maps would help more casual players like myself understand the new maps when they come up (or in my Liquibets...), especially since I haven't played on them much, if at all.
More of these for the other new maps would be great! Can't wait for GSL March! (also B.K. fighting!)
I wasn't really feeling her casting style and couldn't really tell what she was saying sometimes, but I do hope that GOM doesn't completely ignore any casters who doesn't have an American accent. I can do well with a British speaking lad. =P

Yeah, he is very honest and humble, and very analytic. I like the interview as well.

then today they post this! thank god
The archon's likely going to be casting Code S exclusively regardless of whether or not they fire Kelly. Doing both has been hard on their voices and getting them sick, and it shows.

Wrong actually, California has a pretty unique accent. The "lack of accent" you are referring to actually originates from the midwest. It's the preferred accent of news casters/anchors etc.
Back on topic I could care less about accents so long as I can understand what I'm hearing. Total Biscuit has a more extreme accent than I'm used to for example, but I can understand him perfectly. He's also much more enthusiastic than Kelly.

You talk as if this Code A is the same as every other Code A before it...
Maybe you haven't seen the brackets. You should check it out, before you post crap.
and P to the S, why do we have to watch someone fumble around their english, trying to get better at not only commentating/casting the highest level of games.. but also at speaking discernible english - DURING what may be one of the most exciting Code A matches to come? Hm?
You think people are being harsh. No. People just want to enjoy their Starcraft. You're the one being harsh by supporting her position out there, when you know that there's no way in hell she's going to improve enough to be at an even acceptable level of understandable casting.
You want to ruin it for the rest of us? Go ahead. Don't say I didn't warn you.
I hope GOM is hearing the voices of those who want her to have a shot and those who are providing respectful, constructive criticism. Sometimes it's difficult for them to be heard over the clamour the rest make.
She seems like a bright personality, and apparently has decent experience in the game from a player's stand-point. As long as she works on her pronunciation when it comes to fast-action sequences, I personally think she could do a great job, especially with another good caster by her side.
I wonder what Gom's pluses and minuses for this candidate was?
+female +talk a lot +likes starcraft
Oh man... sorry, I just got sucked into this whirlpool of sarcasm on this thread.
But yeah, I seriously think one of the reason, (if kelly was selected) was that she can talk a lot, whereas tasteless and artosis sometimes have moments of silence. It's not like the Korean commentators at all where they talk all the time. In the video, Kelly seems to be able to go nonstop.
There are some commentators on youtube that also have that moment of silence that I feel maybe were not attractive to the ear when their videos were being judged. But they're still good much like Artosis/Tasteless. So yeah, this is just a concern since theres a difference in how english commentators do their thing and how korean commentators do their thing...
