make sure to close the mpq editor before starting sc2 or weird things will happen lol

I don't know how just a couple background changes makes me so happy and adds a lot more 'enjoyableness' to the battle.net menus, but it definitely makes me believe that blizzard should allow for more customization in it. It shouldnt be restricted to people who are willing to modify mpqs and the like.

The same goes for WoW model editting. I was doing it for years and never heard of anyone being caught, despite the fact blues promised banhammers all around. and model editing is much more significant than backround editing. While this is true (i have done it aswell) ppl in this thread seem to try to shadow the fact that is indeed illigal and keep using excuses like "well every blizz employee saids different things" while it stands clearly above the topic. I have no problem with this stage but i the misleading here should stop.

They should however NOT allow modifying of mpqs cause ppl will cheat with it sooner or later. want a example? change dark shrine finish sound to nydus worm. 1small sound modification and i don't ever need to worry about dark templars coming out of nowhere.

I actually can't think of many ways this could be used to exploit. If you're not scouting your enemies base when the dark shrine finishes, the sound isn't going to play, so regardless if it's the default sound or a nydus worm, you're not going to hear it. If you are scouting the base, you can just see it anyway.

Maybe, maybe not necessarily. Nydus worms make sounds regardless of whether you have vision of the location or not when they finish (not referring to the nydus network.) Depending on how that sound is coded which I doubt is sent by one computer to the next at the moment it is made, changing the sound mpq for a dark shrine finishing to be the same as a nydus worm might work.
This is only a guess though based upon the assumption that maphacks do exist that obviously don't necessitate the need for seeing structures hidden by the fog of war while the game is actually being played out.

The nydus worm sound is just a .wav file. It's the actual nydus worm itself that's coded to play the sound regardless of vision or not. It won't play on a dark shrine.
