It's no different than map-hacking.
It's just a question of integrity that and the enjoyment of accomplishing, achieving and progressing in skill and talent.

Those who undermine these values, cheat.

Streams should always have a 5 minute delay of some sort. It still doesn't get rid of the problem, but it atleast prevents it. Keep it in mind guys, there is NO way to find out whether a player is doing this or not.

Even if it's blatantly obvious, the player could simply say ''I had a feel for what was going on'' or ''I've seen this build before''.There are literally thousands of excuses you could use and if a ref accused a player of cheating, probably a big deal would be made out of it (so most don't bother). I bet you 100% of players that do this type of thing do it successfully which is another reason why LAN tournaments are the best form of holding a competition.

Or maybe tournaments should just not be streamed live at all.....

I think that top players should stop streaming when they are in tournaments. Last time I watched TLO streaming a cup, his opponent was always there at the right time to counter arassment as if he was watching the stream at the same time.
I may be completely wrong but I think they should not underestimate the risk.

What I always wondered: if someone plays in the TL:Open vs someone that streams his games and he is told by an anonymous person "hey, he's going proxy banshee rush", what is he supposed to do? Pause the game and inform his opponent?
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

Set the status to busy, I guess.

Justin.tv is implementing a tape-delay feature so that there's about 5 minutes lag time between what happens and what the spectator sees, but in any tournament that matters, no player with the potential to win anything, would risk cheating.

even pro gamers use to abuse and map hack ladder

This reminds me of that SUPER OLD replay of Nada map hacking in ladder against an opponent who dt rushed him. I believe Masterofchaos or someone of the sort confirmed that he was indeed using MH but most of the community dismisse as something he used just to test build times or someone else using the account.

Yeah, would it be his responsibility to have set himself to busy beforehand to stop such things? I think a case could be made he would have to forfeit the game, though that sounds a bit ridiculous I suppose.

No need to tear TB a new one, but I agree with the fact that it's wrong to assume that people are just mannered or think that they might get caught, so they refrain from risky abuses/cheats.

Anyone who's been following the e-sports scene for some time knows that cheating is a serious matter from the lowest to the highest level. SCII included.

no, the case could be made that the game would have to be restarted. why would he have to forfeit a game over something he didn't do?

there are some tournaments which make players take a "busy check" to make sure they aren't informed of anything like that before a match. if you are gonna stream games live, i think this is pretty mandatory.

I remember in beta in some tournament once it was TLO vs White-Ra and TLO paused the game and said that somebody messaged what White-Ra was doing. White-Ra replied with something like "no worries, its ok" lol and still won the game.

dont be so hard on totabiscuit. he surely believes in sportmanship. you can see how honorable he is because he doesnt even consider that known players cheat.

what many probably do not know is that quite a handfull of known sc2 players have cheated in some way or another in their broodwar days. but now its a new age of sc and we hopefully all get along!

I've seen people stream-snipe and then stream cheat on destinys stream before. i think sometimes he jumps to that conclusion quicker then he should, but he got someone to admit it once. Thats just ladder games but its still infuriating. RootCatz also got someone banned (lumen i think) for either hacking or stream cheating I was watching. At EVERY turn the guy had the perfect counter for catz's stuff even tho he obviously wasn't as good.
All hail the Queen!!!

Not being busy is inviting such things perhaps (just playing devil's advocate, mind you).

Where do some of you got the information that streams have a 5 mins delay? I watch streams very often and there is a maximum 5 seconds delay. I know this because it's obvious when they write something in the chat to viewers and when it appears on my chat screen ( usually it appears 2-5 seconds before I see it on the stream , as the chat is faster apparently).

You have to be pretty gullible if you think that people won't abuse something that gives them significant advantage without having the possibility of getting caught.

The other day I was watching Ipp's live cast of go4s2 or zotac or something. And at one point in the game he said that there was a nydus worm going down behind the smoke in the main of the opponent (o Meta) while typing to the audience that it was a fake. Had he been listening to the stream he probably would have reacted, but he didn't, so he probably wasn't listening.

Seems an interesting way to check if someone seems suspicious.

I mean, yea maphacking, arranged matches bla bla bla. But actually watching your opponents stream?

afaik most streams have a pretty big delay, i dont think watching it would help as much as people seem to think.

MioWerra (Now Slayers_Jys or Dragon) was caught cheating this way back in September on Gisado.

I was surprised that hardly anyone talked about it here because it was a huge deal in Korea.

So, yes, people still do this and I would very much welcome delayed streams.

In Starcrafts KBK years ago, extreme pros and nowadays gosus were nearly all smurfing and cheating in a way, chaining freewins against friends on ladder, smurfing accounts, etc...

On War3 W3CL, one of the most important team competition in war3, 2 or 3 teams were found guilty of smurfing with some pros playing at the place of others.

When I was admin for french great competition, some players were accused of cheating using the radio stream, and they were known people.

Some other high level players (I won't tell any name) were influencing admins in order to avoid others or change the seeds on their tournaments when I was admin.

I can't imagine there is magically no cheating or things like that in SC2.

Remember that russian became legend that has been using maphack for years before accessing to top at war3 ?

All pros ends getting forgiven by fans.
