Grand Master League is such a dumb name. I preferred 'pro league' myself. Players already naturally refer to it that way now when they say, "I am in diamond, but I am nowhere near pro level."
I would hope the new league to be a more traditional ladder. No bonus pool please.
I'm not so sure I like the idea of 'invitation only'. That would make it more like an 'elite club' than anything. What will likely happen is that Blizzard will promote only willing players that can be easily exploited for E-sports revenue. And by exploit, I mean it in the full sense of the word. I can see Blizzard saying, "Relax kid. Don't go to college. Keep working your pizza delivery job. Just keep playing Starcraft 2 really well so we can keep getting revenue off your games (revenue you won't see except for a pinch because young kids are financially stupid and can be manipulated)." That is my fear of what will happen.

Well here it is.
It will be revealed tomorrow in BlizzCon, that there will be a new "Grand Master League", a step above the Diamond League. It's going to be the league for the pros, where only top 2% of Diamond League, or top 100 overall, or something like that will be playing at.
Top 100 overall or something like that and it'll be each region unless they do cross realm play for this GM League.
So might as well do the top200 rankins overall of each region which we've been seeing each week.
This will put the truly high skilled players apart from the mid/low diamonds. Gotta ladder!!! :D

It should be called the "Go outside" league. I am reminded of finally beating Devil May Cry on Dante Must Die mode and being treated to a message by the game creator telling me I need to get out more.

now just slap an "emerald" league in between diamond and the GM league for those 1400-1800 folk who play decent games but lack the certain necessities to make it into the GM league, and all will be right

I thought the same thing with the gay flag. Sorry, Rainbow league is not a good name as it implies stuff that they probably don't want to imply.
The Grand Master title is for example used in Chess for the best of the best, so that the grand master league makes sense somehow.

Yes! The most important thing about the league is obviously the name! The fact that this is sweet news is totally irrelevant.
In all seriousness, I like the "Grand Master" thing. What I don't like is the suggestion of "Pro League" which is, to me, misleading. So either Grand Master (sounds sweet) or another type of mineral (Kryptonite league? Anyone? :D)
