I'm curious to know what people think about this, do you think it will have a positive effect on the current system, do you think it'll be significant? It seems like this is the kind of thing a lot of you kids have been wanting to see recently.

EDIT: According to the blizzcon livestream theres 2 new leagues coming, "Master League" top 5% diamond, "Grand Master League" top 200

for a second there i thought this meant good manner instead of grand master, but this is awsome nonetheless a title of grand master is very fitting to very high level players. ^^

If it works like the other leagues work now, nothing's going to change gameplay wise. So frankly, I couldn't care less. Suppose the "I'm a X rated diamond player, so I'm right" threads/posts will stop popping up.

Found it more interesting that not even Blizzard employees can play on the Korean servers. Oh and the name is hilarious.

"What league are you in? I just reached platinum myself."
"I'm in diamond"

vs

"What league are you in? I just reached plat.. been gold for too long"
"I'm in GRAND MASTER LEAGUE"

It's like a Korean decided it, similar to IntoTheRainbows new name : |

Until the leagues mean something they are just a place to get mass practice. I suspect/hope blizzard will be starting their own tourneys soon.

Hmm, I don't think this league would have any meaning other than status/e-peen... the ladder system would fall apart if only players in the GM league were matched against each other -there's just not enough people. There probably will be a lot of Diamond vs. GM League matches in ladder.

Didn't David Kim say in the article top200 each region?
So basically what we see each week but then they'll be put in a ladder that means heavy promotions/demotions each week since the top200 change quite much at the 200 ranks.

I could be wrong though but that's how I interpreted the interview.

Grand Master is a term that comes from Chess. In Chess an ELO ranking of around 2200 qualified you as a Master. The tip top players that win prestigious tournaments and against other top players with absurd ELOs of 2700+ are listed as Grand Masters.

High diamonds will be playing against them i believe just as high plat get to play against diamonds.

Will be interested to see how this pans out. I have a feeling if they promote the ladder to much and it gets "Prestigious" if the ugly side will start coming out as it did in wow and a bit in bw. Hopefully blizz leaves this as the top end and doesn't try to push the ladder to hard.

More leagues is better in my opinion. If there's 2 million people in 5 different leagues, it's mad hard to get a measure of skill. But if there's 2 million people in 20 leagues, everyone gets divided around and it gets easier to see where you belong.
