Haha I calculate they go through 18 keyboards a month! I really hope I don't sound like that when I play.

The first 2 vids, even tho their fingers are fast, is just them at the start of the game spamming the keyboard. 1base 1rax.

Playing on soft touch keyboards is icky to me, and seems inferior to mechanical keyboards. Mechanical keyboards provide more feed back to you what you are playing, your auditory cues help you know if you executed a command correctly.

Sorry but what the fuck. I kind of understand the whole "to keep your apm high during the game you need to spam your apm in the beginning to keep yourself sharp", but this is pointless. Even in the last one where he is under attack at two bases he could have done most of it with >100. Is this just a pre-cursor to the apm to come ? To actually use that 200+-300+ apm 100% ? most of it could easily be done with >100.

And now I'm not saying it because im a 20 apm noob who sucks at starcraft, I just don't see the point of half of the spam, and im asking a genuine about whats to come with the apm.

Also, Do they all play with this ridiculously low mouse speed ? I have mine super high so i can react quicker within my screen. My mouse speed is what has saved me a few times due to the fact I can press and micro so much quicker. This mouse speed is super super low.

Instead of flaming me for not loving their cocks, I'd actually want some serious and informative answers to this

Hrmm...... Dont get me wrong, these guys are the best of the best but I had no idea that their APM came from a bunch of clicks that add up to 0 half of the time.

When the time comes to press a sequence of keys extremely quickly, it is much easier do do so if your fingers are already moving at a quick pace (not to mention warmed up), rather than suddenly accelerating from a state of rest.

it might not be mouse speed, it might be the fact that you play with mouse acceleration, and they don't. (you should really turn off mouse acceleration)

there's some good info on TL if you search about why mouse accel is really, really bad.

Does anyone know what these guys' average APM is on a 20+ minute game?

Let's say the average word length is 5 letters (which it is) but infact I'll even discount you the space bar. So average word length of 4 letters + space bar. Therefore someone typing at 100 WPM has 500 APM right? 200 WPM would require 1000 APM x.x. I don't think anyone has that.

APM and key presses per minute don't compare. I type ~148wpm sustained with no errors and it's independent of word size, real words or not. On some online tests I can score significantly higher wpm because of the word structure and how short the tests are.

In SC2 I average 170-220 apm and it is generally padded by right clicking too many times for any given action. The biggest difficulty in apm isn't key presses. It's coordinating mouse + screen positions + thoughts + game events with those key presses. For example, I can inject 7 hatcheries in under 1 second - it requires no mousing or thought. I doubt I can even place 3 buildings in 1 second and it is significantly less physical actions (if I had 3 workers sitting there and an open field I could, okay, but to place them coherently nope.)

If key presses translated to apm then every top gunz player would have 800+apm in sc2 no problem. It just doesn't work that way.

huh, it looks like they are just doing this to boost up their APM, alot of it seem unnecessary.

We went from TL members awed by pro APMs to now being whiney ninnies. It's a trend now.

You don't want high mouse speed. You want it somewhere near the middle (more or less), as that offers the best precision and speed for RTS games. If you want to see ridiculously low mouse speed, look at FPS pro gamers. Their mouse pads are as big as my desk.

Because most people who play that do not spam when the game gets into the later stages they are moving very very slow especially when in late game the amount of apm to do everything you want to do is alot higher then 20.

Players spam at the beginning because they can normally maintain a high apm and multi task and its a great way to warm your hands. If you don't spam and later in the game when you need like 150+ apm you will not be able to do it as it is very difficult. I remember reading other explanations of why players spam like in bw in late game you want to have like 200+ apm and players that didn't spam were always slower then the players who did spam in the later stages in terms of micro/macro/etc.

Its just a good way to keep yourself at a fast speed as its easier to maintain a speed if your doing it from the beginning rather then start slow and then 10 minutes later try to move super fast. It just doesn't work good that way.

I know Day 9 in one of his day 9 daily a long time ago explained that when he did not spam his movements later in the game were way slower then they should have been and when he spammed his apm at the later game was alot faster then if he didn't.

Thats why players spam its not as useless as you think trust me.
When I think of something else, something will go here

I'm a little confused. I thought key presses counted towards APM? Which is why you can control group in the beginning and spam 1-4 and get well over 400 APM.
