It's definitely in Itunes

I enjoyed the podcast, but I think it would be even better if the people on the show were better "prepared".
By the sounds of it, you seem to have a general idea of whats going to be talked about beforehand, so giving your guests the topics and games you plan on covering ahead of time would be very beneficial.
Other than that, I mostly like the podcast.

I found the discussion about Desert Oasis really interesting. I really don't think the argument 'the whole pro community has ostracised this map so it shouldn't be played' really is that valid.
Basically it's a weird map and regular builds don't work there, so pros who need to invest their time optimally don't want to spend too much effort on a single map as the cost isn't worth the benefit.
But from a spectator point of view, desert oasis normally leads to very entertaining games. I think that should be the metric by which maps are selected for tournaments. Now if there are major balance issues (and there are arguments for this with DO) then that is a good reason to ignore a map.
But is the balance situation *that* acute on DO? Compared to LT? One of the arguments given on the podcast in favour of LT vs DO, was that people have builds for LT to get around the cliff issues and so forth. That is acceptable, because LT is a 'standard' map, and DO isn't.
It seems like a circular argument to me.
Personally if Pros are uncomfortable with a particular map, I think that's all the more reason to include it.

YAY been missing these awesome podcast, listening to it atm and its great as the ones in beta THX JP ^_^
Edit: i really like that it isn't just about balance, but about everything from tournaments, drama, rumours ect, kinda like WoP with the power duo

I'm confused by the whole "even Blizzard removed Desert Oasis" thing, since it's still on the ladder. Did they remove it from a tournament map pool or something?
|
That confused me too. Desert Oasis is still in the ladder map pool?
|
Yessssss. Thanks for making another one of these.

About time, many of us look forward to the podcast regularly and it's good to see it back.

Other than that, I mostly like the podcast. We do a runthrough of the topics before the recording and I provide the topics in text form to the guests as well ;o

I do know it's still on Ladder, I think it was a mistake between Incineration Zone and Desert Oasis.

I guess opinions will differ, but I think this cast (#8) spent way too much time talking about tournament stuff or other miscellaneous issues rather than the actual STATE OF THE GAME. There are some very interesting game-related issues that could (and should) be discussed.
|
@Question Do you find the lack of patches to be worrying? Especially since, major tournaments are coming up in the near future.
EDIT: Btw, I love you. I have to go on an airplane, I am so glad I have something to listen to.

I get what you're saying but the pro-scene and tournaments are a huge part of the 'state of the game'. They are part of the public perception and can really help to improve the visibility and viability of the game's future. Plus it's not like there was a new patch to discuss.
EDIT: JP, Didn't know you were in SA, and I don't think there's a big scene here. Maybe if they could figure out a way to incorporate the Spurs the locals would be more roused. And I'd probably be worried too if I wasn't on the north side.

@Question: From a professional player's perspective, what would be the best way in general to create balance changes? Do you nerf one race, or buff the others? What, in your opinion, might be the toughest part of the process for Blizzard in creating balance through downloadable patches? If you could make any other balance changes to the game as it is currently, what would they be (feel free to deviate from the subject of TvZ unless you'd like to broach that)?
Man JP, you do so much around here - every time I see a post with your name on it, it's always high quality and contains something cool, important, or both! I really like that dependability and hope that you will keep it coming!
That being said, somehow I missed all of these podcasts and didn't even know that they existed until I saw the Featured Threads category. I'm currently downloading the podcast, and I can't wait to listen to it! You certainly have a high-profile cast, and you produce lengthy episodes, which is really nice too. I'll edit this post with my thoughts after I finish listening to the most recent podcast, but please keep these coming! I love media released by the TeamLiquid community (it's always high-quality!), and when you sprinkle in high-quality production, high-profile players, community questions, and topics covering all areas of StarCraft 2, it's bound to be awesome!
On a side note, does anyone know of any other high-quality StarCraft 2 related podcasts (aside from Blizzcast)? I really enjoy listening to them at work or when I'm exercising, and I appreciate the varied perspectives and thoughts on all things StarCraft 2. I can't get enough of these things, so please keep them coming as you are able JP, and if anyone can suggest other solid podcasts (of StarCraft 2 or really anything else), please let me know!

That was really great. I found all of the map discussions to be very interesting.
Will you be taking questions for the next episode in this thread as well, or will there be a new thread for those?
|
A little more pre-podcast preparation will go a long way. I heard a lot of 'I don't know', 'I didn't watch', and vague answers during the podcast.
