Lol, you're crazy if you think Day9 left for personality reasons. His time on the show was always limited and it was getting worse and worse over time - he'd miss multiple SotGs in a row.
Day9 is the type of person who has to pour 100% into whatever he's doing. He gets incredibly upset when he thinks he is not giving it 100%. He's fallen apart on some dailies before and just flat out started them over because he thought they weren't as great as usual even if the audience thought they were fine.
If you really think Day9 left for any other reason than that, I doubt you honestly watch either the Day9 Daily or State of the Game.
As for the rest of it, yes, you've summed up the history of State of the Game - what of it? Even if they could do it all over again, I'm not sure there is an incredibly large amount that they would have done differently. People forget that this podcast is always been about 4-5 people screwing around and talking about StarCraft, and when people in the community started to take it super seriously is when it started to have problems. People were crying about an -informal- podcast not having a -formal- schedule or that pillars could not make every appearance, not to mention over half a dozen other "controversies". The demands for an unprofessional podcast to become professional were contradictory to what everyone liked about it - the fact that it wasn't professional.

There are days I really feel bad for JP and the other Pillars. I work for some pretty ungrateful clients, who love to pick apart my firm's work, deny invoices and generally make sure we are paid as little as possible. It is really demotivating to work for them at times when they refuse to pay for something you spent hours working on. I get paid very well to deal with this and that does a lot to off set the issues of ungrateful clients, aggressive and rude clients. I could not imagine doing something for free that the community just tears apart the moment they smell blood in the water. There is just no way.
Passive aggressive posts like the one you responded to just make me sad. It is so clear that the poster is trying to tear down JP, despite his claims. The fact that the community has become so accepting of these passive aggressive trolls, who hide behind the guise of “criticism”, really makes me wonder if we will ever have SotG again. It has become so clear to me that there are people who just get off on the power they have over these start up shows like SotG and ITG, and live to tear them down as much as possible. The empowerment of the community has become a tool for people to abuse for their own amusement.
Maybe there might be SotG again, but I think JP should divorce it from TL and reddit in almost every way. I think it would best for the people who enjoy and cared about the show, since we can show our fandom in other ways.

I worry about the same thing. Being connected and easily accessible to your fans also means you have to be accessible to the haters, and no matter how tiny a minority those people are, being exposed to it constantly day after day wears a person down. It makes me wonder how some of these guys haven't already been driven to the brink of insanity, when every time they go on TL or Twitter or Reddit they have to deal with this crap.

Well he did play FTL for hours on friday and is planning to play a random single player game for 7ish hours most Fridays it seems. These are basically blind let's plays that don't require a lot of effort to create a lot of content which is why there are so many of them on youtube. I'm not sure I can agree that these are 100% effort poured in videos even though they are entertaining. He also played the dead space 3 demo blind recently so I think it is safe to guess that day9 let's plays will continue throughout 2013, unfortunately leaving no time for the less important and fun SotG.
But, maybe the SotG hosts can join him as co-commentators for some of those to spice up the solo commentary a bit, similar to his metadating show where he does a blind let's play of dating games with his friends watching. Then they just have to mix in some starcraft news topics with the gameplay reactions during less exciting parts and they have successfully tricked him to being on sotg again!

Maybe I worded that poorly, I wasn't listing that as a source. I was linking what had brought me here and hoping for more info/confirmation. The date is on the first page in the thread, but that is about it.
EDIT: The OP of the Reddit post followed up with this.

I just ejaculated awesomeness (nothing perverted, I can assure you ! ), the sheer thought of hearing that we will be blessed with the opnions of the demigod Artosis made me cry a joyful tear inside..
Also I hope they do some flashbacks and trips down memory lane and talk about BW compared to SC2 and how the KESPA players have transitioned so far... would also love to hear how long it will take a Flash/Fantasy/Jaedong to win an OSL/GSL in SC2

Yes, Episode 77 coming in 5 hours!!! I long for the days when SOTG was a weekly show, but THANK YOU JP!!! Can't wait for this!
