He can't even give a straight answer to TB's question on why the CBSi partnership is good. It sounded like he didn't know himself. And extended series? The rule is so bad that they're second guessing themselves about it lol. He said it like that because that has already happened to them 10 years ago So now they have built up an infrastructure to prevent that from happening. As for the CBSi his not allowed to release the other announcements and how CBSi ties into it yet, and about the extended series no double elimination so no extended series.

So I guess MLGAdam believes that 2011 was 10 years ago? Dallas had probably the worst internet issues of any SC2 event to date and Columbus had constant issues with players lagging. Both of these weren't directly MLG's fault, but to anyone in the audience there's no difference between those problems and what took place at IPL. Furthermore, the solutions to those problems weren't outside of MLG's control and they did take steps to deal with both of them -- just not 10 years ago. There were lots of other scumbag MLGAdam moments in the interview like when he said that he wouldn't give the specific reason why IPL had the disconnect, then 30 seconds later he gives the specific reason. Also he gives IPL the backhanded compliment of "The matches that happened were awesome." Yeah, I heard the same thing about the NASL Season 1 finals... Finally, as hugman points out, not being able to answer TotalBiscuit's basic question about the CBSi partnership was embarrassing. All he had to do was paraphrase the press release. As many others have commented, the show really suffers without Incontrol. Even if you don't agree with what he says, the tone he sets for all of the discussions helps avoid the steaming pile of bullshit we heard in the first part of this episode.

Is he talking about Blizzard and HOTS, with the "internal event" being Blizzcon? Or would he be referring to Blizzard as a developer rather than a publisher if that was the case? What is a product "activation" anyway? Activation is being used here in terms of marketing. In general, it refers to the act of carrying out the specific strategy developed prior in the planning phase. Product activation in detail is often part of multiple steps to enable overall awareness, engagement and spread of certain ideas, products and your brand. The fact that said publisher would deviate from their inherited strategy leaves quite some questions open. It could mean a variety of things: Announcing things exclusively internally would hint at a strong base brand reach. In simple terms, read "we don't really need others to promote core products and services" with Apple press conferences as a reference. Now to engage yourself on a 3rd party platform could potentially mean the thing to announce would yield such impact to be promoted to a broader audience. In case of Blizzard, the absence of this year's Blizzcon could be yet another practical necessity to take part in E3 as exhibitor. It certainly is less expensive than organizing an in-house conference given the same amount of publicity E3 can provide. The only two things important enough they could showcase are D3 and HotS, which do benefit from the already existing rich media coverage of the event. Though E3 has been loosing some impact within the PC platform, it could mean another approach in getting a foot back into the space and reclaim a bit of ground. Given the corner points, it would strongly hint to Blizzard. A less probable case could be Valve, but then the criteria of originally exclusive in-house handling is not perfectly met. That said, there is still the possibility of Valve doing their own thing at E3, unrelated to MLG, anyway.

I would disagree with Tyler that most PvP is mind-gamey and highlevel now (at the pro-level), because frankly I think the "mindgames" for the most part are the individual players mindfucking themselves over what their opponent is and might be doing, not their opponent actually trying to trick them, save for a very short list of players, and that most matches I watch are still pretty "shoot for the moon and pray." I don't think there's much in PvP that's coin-flippy that you can blame the match-up on anymore; Protoss players have shown a high ability to break through bad build situations with just straight micro and decision making and that's awesome. I do think however, that a lot of players chose to coin-flip by not really scouting and spending so much time wondering what their opponent might be doing and then just doing something risky. At the same time there's a certain amount of wondering you have to do because of warp-in and the fact that, like zerg, if a player decides randomly just to attack you, they can actually do that. I guess I'm contradicting myself a little, but I still feel that pvp, while frankly having the most potential of any matchup in my opinion, still generally involves players shooting in the dark a lot, and I think a lot of it is by choice. Totalbiscuit and Sheth really didn't say too much, but I was happy for them to be on the show, and what they did say was entertaining and intelligent. And to underline. Broodwar players in Anaheim? I think it's awesome that them just BEING there draws so much attention. Screw that they're not playing in the tournament, they're going to BE there! Makes me wish they'd come to Columbus instead.

His exact quote is (begins at 33:48): "When MLG made their mistakes we made it in front of a smaller audience, right, 10 years ago. The mistakes they're making now, they're making in front of a gigantic group of people." I gave two examples where MLG had technical issues in the last year that yielded similar frustrations to the IPL disconnect. If he had just left it at "we figured out that specific issue 10 years ago" that would have been fine. Instead he took one mistake that would never occur at a modern MLG and concluded that there would, therefore, never be any mistakes at MLGs. Which isn't true. Like many other people here I've spent entire weekends watching their events and loved every minute of it. If they focussed more on how great their SC2 content is instead of doing bizarre PR moves (e.g. the way they announced PPV) and taking passive aggressive snipes at other tournaments I wouldn't have any complaints about them. Finally, since MLGAdam does read these forums let me say this: don't take any of my complaints to be anything more than inconsequential nitpicks (like almost everything else you find in forums).

There are a lot of systemic things I have not liked about SotG for some time. There are several choices they have made in what they want to focus on and their presentation that has meant that I have enjoyed the podcast less and less. This is not to say they have been doing anything wrong, but this particular podcast felt like it was catered to me. And I will admit that it was really nice. I know this was not planned, but I really appreciated how it felt like there was more structure and quite a regular pacing; people said what they wanted to on topics and what they said was important, something that to me has been missing for a long time but was very prevalent in the early days of SotG. Perhaps it was a bit of a blessing that at some points some people stayed quite silent? It may be just so easy as me not liking listening to five different people who chime in and especially the feeling that there is no progress being made except to make jokes. I guess in the end I am happier with a less humor based podcast. I know I am likely in the minority, but I just want to say this, I really do appreciate it when, by design or by chance, I get a product that very much lines up with my own likes. So, to JP, Artosis, Nony, Sheth and TotalBiscuit, thank you all for the impromptu show. It was a pleasure to listen to and I felt I learned quite a lot about what and how people think about several topics. And, in a world of StarCraft II where I feel that is becoming more and more rare, it was simply fun and enjoyable. <3

When people are having a conversation and saying things, not every word is prepared and deliberate like a press release. When one says ten years, there is a chance that this is hyperbole. I don't even remember the term used, because I understood it as it was intended... LONG TIME AGO. Yes, 1 year in eSports is a LONG time. Once again, he mentioned a SPECIFIC issue in regards to network settings at the local event. Why would someone repeat a freaking press release? TB obviously wanted more detailed information, not to be reread a press release. TB is intelligent. Do you recognize that you are complaining about nothing? These are all events that you twisted, replayed in your mind and eventually found problems with nothing.
