Fuck yeah. Get Barrin on to pitch the idea from the source! If he's available, of course.

I'd definitely tune in for a discussion of this stuff. Totally behind this.

I'd be very interested in hearing thoughts on his idea and concept as well.

Really interested in SotG:s opinion on this. And as someone said above me; Get Barrin on stream!

Is the Lone Star Clash SotG ever going to be put on iTunes?

I doubt it, It really shouldn't count as an episode it was just geoff doing interviews not really even talking about sc2 at all also it was only like >30 minutes long I think. The stream died in the middle of it and everyone was super tired.

Barrin's post is amazing but if they're going to cover it they will actually have to read the thread. Or get the author on. It's a little too in depth and technical for an off the cuff discussion.
I would like to see them brainstorm about the larger problem: whether or not Barrin's specific tweaks are the right approach, there's no way to try out new maps with radically new ideas in the first place. How could the Starcraft community address this? Maybe a semi regular tournament with a prize pool dedicated to experimental map designs?

I've already said that I prefer the mining rates that each additional worker adds per base in BW over SC2. I think changing it will mess up balance and so the only way to change it is to have Blizzard on board to deal with the repercussions. And if Blizzard is on board, I'd rather see the worker AI from BW come back. There are some important differences between 8patch BW AI and 6patch SC2 AI. I understand Barrin limited himself by what he's able to do without Blizzard's help but I just don't see this change happening without Blizzard's help as realistic. Though whether or not they're willing to revert worker AI is an important question as I imagine that it is a change that they might view as something that should absolutely not be done.
Simultaneous live release with HOTS seems like the only possibility to me. Like Barrin said, everyone will be psychologically okay with sort of starting from scratch. Any other time seems impossible to me.

Would indeed love to hear the thoughts of the pillars on the matter of fewer resources per base

I've always liked the concept of increasing the supply caps, increasing the map size and spreading out the mineral collection rate over a wider area for starcraft 2.
I loved Supreme Commander (Sup TLO), the scope and scale of that game, smashing waves of forces over a huge frontage to fight for terrority, alas it didnt have quite the same polish, mechanics or support as starcraft does.

Even if it's not balanced enough for pro play with the current balance (which is very hard to know without a long time to develop maps and metagame,) and even if Blizzard wouldn't use it at this time, I think it's totally worth doing because of it's appeal to players. Most players are low enough that they can focus on improving to win more and not rely on balance. Many players, probably the vast majority actually, would prefer a game mode that's more fun over being balanced. I guess winning and improving are everything on ladder as is, and a lot of people hate how stressful it can be or how not fun it is.
This game mode can give those players more interest in the game, which helps the game stay active and helps to promote the esports side of things as well. It's possible, though, that they would be less interested in watching pro matches because their own games are better than the pro games if they play on these maps.

Yea i would definitely like to have this discussed on SoTG. Though one major flaw with your suggestion is that a player can fully saturate a base even faster than before. In bw, since the ai was so poor, it took a while to saturate a base (not to mention having to click on each nexus individually and rally each worker to patch, thus making worker management a lot harder/skillful).
Also, when is the next SoTG?

Blizzard has never disappointed with an expansion. HotS will be so much better. But shouldn't we just focus on this article and WoL? HotS so far away.
Anyway, I would also love to hear Barrin on SotG. JP make it happen please.

Step 1 (WoL): casual-friendly. get ALL the casuals! (lure em in)
Wrong! Blizzard said, they think WoL wasn't Casualfriendly enough. HotS (especially Singleplayer/CustomGames) will be much more Casualfriendly.

I mean with two more expansions, they had to leave themselves some room right? Step 1 of the 3 step plan was heavily reliant on making us believe they were idiots by messing up something as simple as APM. By step 2 EPM will be gone and regular APM will be back, although it will be based on Blizzard minutes. Then step 3, 2015, we'll have regular APM back.

(not my idea)
I won't take my chances though, lets talk about it (if you want)! <3 more like step 1 -- get as much money from casuals as possible. step 2 -- casuals are not playing anymore, so make it more casual so that they come back and take their money step 3 -- fuck, they left again, make it even more casual so that they come back.
