That's the exact purpose of sponsorship. You sponsor someone to gain support, when you drop them you lose it. If people shouldn't protest companies when a company drops a player, then they shouldn't buy their products when a company picks up a player.
I don't understand how Kim Rom's argument can be taken seriously. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too.

Well "losing" support is fine but driving someone to a competitor is a different response.

This is stupid. Welcome to marketing and capitalism and the real world Kim Rom, if you drop someone the huge fans of that person are going to be pissed and stop supporting you. Get over it.

Well "losing" support is fine but driving someone to a competitor is a non ideal response. It's the opposite reaction to the response they got at the beginning of the signing. It's a bit obnoxious when people are outspoken about it, but that's true of almost everything on Twitter.
Based on some of his previous posts, I'm sure Kim Rom wishes marketing didn't play a role in it at all and I completely agree with him, but it does and this response seems completely obvious and understandable.

I'm so glad we moved on from 'boring' strategy discussion to spending 20 minutes talking about marketing strategies for keyboards. (sarcasm)

I think everyone can safely say steel series products and razer products are terrible. There are much better manufacturers that should be sponsoring ppl :D

Marketing guy needed to talk to the PR guy before making his post imo.

Can we stop giving attention to the idiots who are upset over this? There was a business agreement, it ended, screddit got all pissy because it's screddit and that's what they do. It's not worth talking about.

the simple answer to his question was slayers. hellions in every match up and the advent of meching is the biggest catalysts for the continued dominance of the terran race.

We do need to address issues like this for the health of the community.
Kim Rom needs to realize that due to the nature of the internet, direct feedback like "I hate you for XXX, I'm never buying your product again!!!1" is going to happen. If 10 people are outspokenly against dropping a sponsorship, how many more people do you think were supporting Steelseries? How many will continue to do so? Why does a few negative tweets mean that the money you put into sponsoring a player was wasted? Marketing and PR should know not to release such hotheaded tweets, which are so easy to post but so hard to rationalize after the fact. If negative feedback is unacceptable, and their team cannot handle mass communication with customers, perhaps marketing in newspapers and bi-fold pamphlets would be best for them.

I don't understand how Kim Rom's argument can be taken seriously. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too. But what if they decide to support a diffrent player you love instead of Grubby? You magically like them again even though they still don't support grubby?

Holy crap, so much support!
I made the first call, and while some didn't like the question, everyone was so positive about the way I asked it, so much love to sotg and the sc community.
Been explaining some of my games to my friends, and got me thinking about doing some casting. Encouraging me with all the positive feedback on something so trivial, hah.

Destiny is totally right about focused practice, at least within the piano analogy. I'm not even amateur, but I remember when I focused in depth on a section that was the most difficult for me. I just played it over and over, focusing on correct fingering, playing slowly for accuracy. Now, when I do my play through for enjoyment, I'm particularly strong at that section.
I can't with certainty that this works with Starcraft practice, but I think: yes. You can do this with ladder, to some extent at least.

I don't, and like I said, I agree with Rom that marketing is hugely deceptive and a problem right now.
The point I'm making is that if you say "You shouldn't abandon our product just for dropping a player's sponsorship", you should also have a disclaimer when you sign a player that says "You shouldn't buy our product just because we signed this player."
Obviously they'd never do that and for good reason, but it's wanting to have things both ways which is unreasonable. I don't think people should boycott a sponsor for dropping a player, but I don't think people should support a sponsor for signing a player either.
