I gotta say, I am really disappointed with JP trying to completely shift conversation away from blaming tournaments. It is really disrespectful to both the hosts and the viewers. If there is a problem, and the way JP seemingly goes "OH SHIT" and tries to steer conversation away, there is one, he shouldn't be trying to shush it.
What is so wrong with admitting that sometimes tournaments are too unorganized and treat players poorly as a result? Players waiting around for 15 minutes is a fault of the tournament admins. Plain and simple. They are the ones organizing everything and it is *THEIR* fault. I know that it is a tough thing to do, but some tournaments do it better than others. Everyone talks about how well the IPL treated the players. Why aren't others doing it then? As I said, JP is just trying to defend MLG when clearly MLG is one of the major sources of stress between casters and players. MLG is notorious for being terrible for letting players know when they actually play, and that makes them angry and the only people they see are casters so they take it out on the casters. MLG needs to have much stricter play times and spread them out more so players have time to eat, go to the washroom, and be able to get back to the booth and not have to wait more than 5 minutes before playing. i think it was on inside the game but i think it was idra who said tehy should ahve some little gadget that does off when a player has to play so you arent say... watching a teamate play while being called for your consolation match and miss it
MLG is simply too huge they need some sort of filtering process so they dont ahve 250+ people all trying to paly at the same time
That's exactly the kind of thing MLG should be looking at to improve the player experience. That would reduce their frustration and they would stop being so rude to casters.
Basically, it's the events' fault for being disorganized and if they just do things like this to smooth out the player experience, everyone will be happier.

Kill the puppy in Incontrol's back, it's seriously ugly and it's the thing that is always annoying me when I watch Machine's stream.

lol? So him wanting to be able to play his best is selfish and egotistical? I'll remember that.
You are right about one thing, the players are not in charge. The tournaments are. However, if a tournament is run smoothly and specific time constraints and good communication is employed then there will be no problems. That is on the part of the tournament, not the players.

Everyone knows that tournament isn't the main source of income to the players. Streaming, and of course team support+sponsors is what keep these guys playing. Travel expenses, gaming houses, everything is paid by the teams, and every player is in a team, either a big or a small one. So, as Artosis said, the teams of these problematic players must handle this problem, because they're the main investors, and the biggest losers.

Tournaments should do their best to help players put on a good show. However, there is a very simple solution for players who bitch about their tournament not being a perfect experience: don't play in tournaments.
Unless your conditions at the tournament are different than the conditions set for other players, you have no advantage or disadvantage in your game. Everyone is experiencing the same thing.
You don't see pro football players bitching and whining "waaa it's too cold in the stadium turn up the heat because I might get hurt waaa". No, they play the game because BOTH sides are experiencing the same conditions. And they NEVER bitch about tournament conditions. Ever.

This makes me hate artosis even more then I used to back in the SC2 Beta days

Umm, traditional sports except basketball/volleyball etc have almost always been built around having weather being an element into play since their creation.

Why? He's just saying don't be rude to casters because the tournament isn't organized well.

Its the players who make the tournaments. Tournaments rely on players just as much as players rely on tournaments, idra's points are fair.

Sheth is interesting to listen to. I wouldn't mind him being on the show. (Yes, this topic again.. )

I didn't say that everyone is rich. I said that players are supported by their teams, not their results. Only the top of the top, a select group, wins tournaments. The vast majority keep playing, keep traveling, without winning anything.

both casters and players are important, the biggest casters and the biggest players are nearly essential for a tournament that wants success on the scale of an mlg/ipl/dreamhack. but players roles around game time tend to be far more sensitive, especially among the biggest players like me, huk, naniwa. and thats not a coincidence. if you're not very on edge and emotionally invested in the game you're not gonna be that good. players have a lot more to lose from these problems and as the players performance is important to the tournament they should be babied.

Does SotG talk about strategy and metagame anymore at all? Recently coming back and there's absolutely nothing about anything in the actual game
|
JP needs to listen to other podcasts to learn how to be a good host.
Emulate Ryan Davis from The Bombcast or Garnet Lee from Weekend Confirmed.
The conversation on SOTG is always so awkward and no one knows when to talk.

its not a player can get on a team get no results off nothing back and be on the team for long especially with only a few foreign teams actually ahving a team house for them to live in
