I would consider someone with a W/L of about 300/600 to be better than someone with a W/L of 100/30. Any good SC player knows that a loss is an oppurtunity to improve, and lot's of them shouldn't icon a player as bad.

It would be nice until you remember all the WC3 kids who would just make a new name any time they lost and it generally became standard that an account that was 20W/0L was more pro than an account that was 1200W/900L

No, that was one of B.nets flaws in my opinion. Especially in the iCCup server because people would just make new accounts and play lower levels and ruin that whole game aspect. All because they didn't like their "stats" or W-L ratio. It's stupid and almost every other game I played was against someone with a new account that was twice as good as me, that was no fun.

This is a valid point, but what about someone like me who has a poorer w/l ratio due to drops? Or what about someone who is learning and then becomes much better after losing many early games?

I think a fair compromise would be to allow one reset every two or three months.

Who knows maybe blizzard will pull an iccup and reset the ranks every season? Blizzard could keep it so you cant reset/get a new account but reset the rank every 3 months.

You could also just joke about it because it is quite amusing to be a skilled player with a terrible win:loss ratio, also it makes people rage more when you roll over them

This is pretty much what I was about to say...

Furthermore the B.Net 2.0 utilizes the matchmaking system that will get you placed against proper skilled players very soon if your rating is not appropriate to your skill.

It's good that no smurfing is allowed.

One of the worst things about iccup is constantly vsing Koreans who just reseted their accounts to noob stomp.

Bnet 2.0 should implement a way to reset your stats, andI think it would help to have people play against not only their rank at low levels, but a similar amount of games played as well. This way if someone goes 2-20 because they keep losing to smurfs, the system won't match them up against diamond players who are 3-0 right after a reset.
Those first games would still suck, but 10 or so games against possible smurfs is better than the unlimited amount that iccup brought

Even having very good game theory (understanding the game well, the races, strategy, builds, and other stuff you learn from watching Day[9] and reading a lot), I still lost every match I played in BW Iccup.

My score was like 860 (D-) and no matter what I always played against people who were somehow really, really good. After a while my playing kinda grinded to a halt as I just didn't like losing so much. I was the type of gamer who gets really nervous while playing.

In the Beta, I was Platinum/Diamond. I always win all 5 of my placements as I realize that I'm not actually that much a noob, but just played against really good player beforehand. I'm very cool player now as the first time phase two went up, I was on a winning streak of 13 games ^^. I realize now, my place in the Starcraft II universe.

In short? Playing really, really good players while I was a beginner almost completely deterred me from continuing.

And I would consider that 300/600 player as a lost cause as he obviously can't learn from his losses :p

There is hardly any reason to have more than 1 account, except for playing another race.

Ranking and placement should be different for each race choice... at least in 1v1s.

Maybe not if we see a system like WC3.

WC3 would reset XP and standings but would never reset win/loss ratios. Being able reset an account is just something else glaring that Bnet 2.0 is missing. And I find absolutely no reason why two bnet multiplayer accounts shouldn't be able to be tied to the same CD key. As long as the players can't log in at the same time, what's the harm or piracy risk?

Smurf accounts basically pull up the ladder for any new people to get into SC2, and it can lead to the bottom ranks being harder than the middle ranks in extreme cases. People get immediately discouraged when all their matches are vs people months/years beyond them. Really reading the thread the harm should have been obvious even if you don't think it's a big deal.

In understand your point, but again drawing on my experience with a such a system in Warcraft 3, I just don't see this being a problem. I started playing multiplayer some time in between RoC and TFT, I was a total n00b for a real long time yet I never ended up playing individuals who were drastically better than me. Almost every game that I played I felt that I was equally matched in skill. There were no individuals destroying lower ranks of players, never ran into any lower ranked matches that were more difficult than middle ranks. None of that ever happened, at least in my experience.

I stopped playing and became more serious after TFT came out and I started acquiring more skill. I stopped playing for some months and ended up making a new account when I started playing again. After a handful of games I was very quickly pulled up to playing against opponents who were equal to me in skill. When I switched modes, say from 2v2 to 1v1 I was always pretty evenly matched against opponents.

And I apologize, I should have included this reasoning in my earlier reply to make it more clear the point I was trying to make.

If a computer determines your skill level, and adjusts it as needed, why would anyone even need a stat reset? Other than because you picked a placeholder name not thinking that it would be permanent?

A win/loss record has never to my knowledge been the sole identifier to skill.

The matchmaking system will try to push your win/loss ratio to 50:50 anyway, so if you lose a bunch of matches due to a bad connection, you'll get a bunch of easier opponents to get it back up.

The only people who won't be seeing 50:50 once the ladder stabilizes are the ones all the way at the top with not enough people that can beat them and the ones all the way at the bottom with not enough people they can beat.

This was exactly my experience, I used to win 1/6 games at D level on ICCUP it was no fun and I rarely played.

Now I go 5/0 in placement and manage about 50% wins in platinum, lots of fun!

You want a game to be accessible and to expand it's player base, you don't allow smurfing, Simple.

Maybe seperate ranks for different races in 1v1 would be good, but that still leaves idiots with the option to just quit lose all their games with two races to keep them in the lower leagues.

who cares?

fuck the w/l ratio, eventually the people will rank up and get a kickass rating if they're good enough...

Reset is definitely not a good idea.
Much better would be if the shown ratio would be w/l ratio from last X played games. For example 200. In such case games played long time ago would not influence it.

Reset nickname on the other hand would be nice (limited to once a while ofc). Sometimes happens that you find better nickname for your self or just get sic of the old one.

That is what I really wanted.
I want to play a different race and still play diamond with my main one.

IMO, its really foolish they would take that away, it didn't hurt anything and restarting with 0-0 stats and still having the old account was cool.
