So, I looked for a thread about this but couldnt find one. In which difficulty will you start the campain on tuesday? I guess there will be at least 4, maybe even 5.
Will you start on insane right away to have a real challenge? Or will you complete the campain on normal or hard first and then try it again on insane?

Insane is so dumb, the computer gets extra resources/has faster build times, it's like Blizzard saying "well we can't design a competent AI to beat you, so we are just going to give them cheats." Hard deff gets my vote.
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

My plan is to try insane at first. If its too much on any certain mission ill just lower it to hard and then return to insane for the next mission.

Campaign difficulty will be a joke regardless (assuming it has it). All the AI's from the beta were predictable and had pretty poor decision making. The insane one got more resources so it seemed a bit more challenging, but then you realize it also does the same stupid shit. There's always the possibility that Blizz will work on improving them, but I wouldn't count on it. AI aside, I'm sure it will have interesting missions/scripted events.
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

playing it on the easiest at the start so I can get through the story before anyone spoils it for me. Then i'll probably play through it again on insane when I need a break from laddering .
I only make 5 actions per minute. But since I use all my time deliberating and planning, my 5 actions are so brutally devastating that children cry out and grown men weep.

Why do people relate the melee AI to the campaign difficulty? Those things are COMPLETELY different.

Campaign difficulty is switched by triggers. Particular units are removed/added, waves of units get bigger or smaller, etc.

The campaign AI will cheat by default, it will not rely on any resource gathering.

I'll enjoy the first playthrough like any other game - on normal. Game's are usually most balanced around this dif. and since almost noone bothers with advanced ai, the higher dif. usually just means that they are going to screw you one way or the other. When I've finished my first playthrough, I might pimp up the dif. for second. People will realize that your uber APM and build trees doesn't mean toss in a premade campaign.

heh if 1v1 insane computer if beatable, i would like to try the insane campaign. if it does get too hard ill just check it to "hard" lol. i dunno if i wanna play through the campaign a few times just for the achievements.

I'm gonna go for normal and enjoy the lore-ry stuff and maybe try out hard and insane at some later point when I've improved my macro/micro on the multiplayer.

I'm still "just" a silver/gold level player so I've got a lot of improvements to make

Insanely looking forward to it though. The first time in pretty much the last decade I've looked more forward to the singleplayer than the multiplayer in what seems to be an obvious high level competitive game.

3,5 days to go!

Where's the very hard option? I was pretty sure the ai levels went, easy medium, hard, very hard, and in sane.
What's that probe doing there? It's a scout. You mean one of those flying planes? No....

I'm not very good (300 ELO diamond) but playing ANY single player that is easy feels like work to me, but I figured insane would be like the crack multiplayer where they get 2x resources. you expect every singleplayer missions to be a straight up 1v1 melee match on maps like lost temple?
did you even play starcraft 1 campaign?

campaign missions are more like having you start as normal with nothing. a 5 minute no rush timer and with the AI player having 4-6 expansions and a full tech tree. who just barrels down on you the moment you switch that trigger that tells him to beat the living shit out of you.

I've played SC and BW campaigns countless times. Since I'll probably play SC2 campaign the same amount of time (or even more, it just looks incredible) I'll start normal, then go to hard, then the last difficulty. ^_^

I can't be SURE, since I haven't played the campaign.

But think: The campaign will not be like melee games. You will sometimes defend positions, escort stuff, walk around without having any base at all, or have multiple main bases etc.

This means, melee AI is absolutely worthless for the campaign. The AI behaviour for every single campaign map has to be specifically triggered. Otherwise the AI would not be able to comprehend where to attack and what to send. The tech tree is limited for like half of the campaign, too.

I always play on the difficulty setting one step above normal. It makes the game more challenging but not insurmountable. If I go all out on "insane"/"brutal" I'm just not going to have as much fun.
Repeating missions over and over again disrupts the flow of the game, and thus make it boring for me.

So in two words: Hard mode

Hard probably. I want to try insane sometimes but after release I have under a week to go through the campaign so I actually want to finish it before I leave
