awesome, digital content for the win!

oh digital copys only available the 7/27/2010 10:00 AM PST.

Damn... I was thinking of going at midnight and grabbing it, but this seems more convenient. The manual from sc1 was really incredible though so I think I have to buy a hardcopy. Very smart strategy for blizzard to open this up though.

Wow, that website looks fantastic.

This is very convenient, but for some reason I want to get a hold of the physical manual for this game. Also, I like the new box smell.

Certainly strengthens the belief that Blizzard is taking the competitive side of the game extremely seriously and is trying to bring it more visible/available to the casual players. Yay.

I'm at work and they blocked the damn site, can anyone sneak a print screen for me so I can see its glory?
|
|
I'm not clear that you can activate this using the cd key off a boxed copy so I don't think it is a way of just getting it installed early ... would be great if you can though. The instructions seem to imply that you when you go to install it you will be taken to teh store to complete your purchase. Would be great if you could activate it with a boxed cd key though
prety sure there will be releases at midnight on 27th in Australia as well which is like 15 hours ahead of the us release :p
|
|
I'm sorry but somehow I feel hard to believe that's a legit website.
|
so if we purchase a digital copy do we get a specific number of installs? do we even own the game or just a license to play it?
|
dammit they already charged my CC for the pre-order, if I knew the digital version would release on same day I would have waited instead. oh well I still have to pick up the collectors edition along with my normal edition.

Who should download StarCraft II in advance? If you intend to purchase StarCraft II digitally, downloading the client now will allow you to simply pay and play when digital copies of StarCraft II go on sale.
Will digital copies of StarCraft II be available as soon as the game is released in stores? No. They’ll go on sale slightly later, on 27/07/2010 10:00 CEST in Europe and Russia. 07/27/2010 10:00 AM PDT in North America and Latin America.
Basically, I understand that you download and install it today. You can pay for it after 10 AM CEST/10 AM PDT. Then you can play. I might be wrong though. I'll have to download it this evening.

hmmmm i pre-ordered and im thinking ill install this and have it installed and simply put my cd key when i get the game. However..... I pre-ordered the CE. Which comes with, i believe, extra portraits and some thor skin. Anyways i'm wondering if those things are included in the install of the CE or if i can simply transfer them to this install somehow.... either way, im installing this now :D

You get the game tied to your battle.net account. You can download the client on any computer by logging in on the battle.net website and choosing to do so. Then you run the client and log in using any account which has starcraft 2 linked to it.*
*Pure assumption, but I can't see why it would work any other way.

Someone should post on the new forum asking if a retail key will work on the digital download.
The way it works is that you can download it for free, but you can only purchase a key for it after 10am on July 27th (hence only play it after 10am).
Anyone care to bet their store goes down at 10am on the 27th? They better plan for the huge rush of people buying keys all at once.
|
looks cool, however I still prefer a boxed copy, even if it costs 5$ more than the digital. But yeah, good idea from Blizzard.
|
Tackar!
Why question the website legitimacy if it's the official adress and all?
|
|
Um this is so brilliant that I might damn well cancel my Collectors edition.
Or have two accounts...mmmm
|
LOL. Just found it on the new bnet. Zerger King anyone?
|
I don't see any ladder info or stats? Got the link to the ladder stuff?
|
go to the forum and click on someones name, or I think if you login you'll see all your stuff.
|
Mmmm just cancelled my collectors edition boxed copy.
It will be cheaper later anyway Thanks Blizzard, with royal mail I couldn't guarantee I'd get to play this on launch. Digitally you can!
|
Wait, if we can download the full client now, can't some crafty sonovabitch mine all the datas from it, specifically singleplayer? Crackers can just download this and try to crack it before the release?
This is like a game leak, except more official.
|
Well thats pretty damn cool. I'm still going to be going to the closest store to get my copy asap. Hell, if they aren't watching the back door I may slip in back, grab my copy, and leave them $60. If not I can still be back to my house and installing by 12:30am.
Even though the massive numbers of people doing the same will surely cause the patching process to remind us all of the dial-up modem days.
|
If you could use a retail cd key the digital download would be geat for aussies like me who want to have a us copy of the game. Download the electronic copy and get an American friend to buy a US copy and send you the cd key so you can activate the game and you're away.
Not sure why the download would require you to actually activate via a purchase since you have to have a subscription on your battle.net account to use it .. what happens if you want t install it on your pc and laptop .. do you need 2 keys :s

Maybe it doesn't have the single player data in it. Maybe there will be a patch 1-2 days before the release. Or maybe Blizzard is that confident
|
Very cool, all the information (achievements/ladders/match history) is all available by viewing someone user details in the new forum. Presumably there will be an online ladder where you can view anyones profile anytime on any ladder.
The installer alone is 7gig, so at the very least it has a lot more content then the current beta client, and I'd presume it would have all the single player content as well.
|

Sweet... definitely using the digital download.
The ladder info stuff is exactly the same information that appears in your in-game profile (ladder / reward / achievement). No global ladders or anything.
|
Loving the new site, a lot of stuff packed in to it, yet it's still easy to navigate and use.
|
if you notice on the page there is a little red asterix next to where it says choose activate. Over to the right it says
** I clicked SKIP instead of ACTIVATE – is that bad? That’s OK, just click this link and log in.
If you clik that link it takes you to a page where you can enter your cd key. This is exactly how WoW has worked in the past. You get a prompt when installing to enter the key but if you don't do it yu just go to your account and add the key. I'm pretty confident now that you can install it (after the time lock of course) and use a retail cd key to activate your account. The rub is that if you have access to a boxed copy you will be able to buy that earlier than you can unlock the digital version anyway (10 hours earlier on US West coast)
Thi also fits with the images we say of the installer that said you couldn't install the game yet .. they are time locked

That's a quote from one of the links you posted.
I think people should stop posting random links, just for the sake of doing so, when it adds no evidence to their argument.

Odd it keeps track of your current beta ingame status, considering its going to be reset in a few days.

Nice find, downloading NA now.
I have a question though since they weren't clear enough, it obviously says download this for use with the digital download, but what if I use this installer and activate with my pre-order (shipped) game?
Basically I'm asking if you can use this installer to 'skip' and save yourself time from the manual install, then use your shipped SC2 key to activate.
|
Depends if you can activate any copy with any key or if every key is specific to each copy. You prolly need to ask Blizzard directly about that.

i believe you activate your bnet account, not the game itself, which requires you to login to bnet at least once anyway

Anyone now the payment details? Is it only per credit card possible or also through a normal ec-card?

Now they just need to make it so you can chat on b.net through the site. Would be real nice at times .

i posted something about this back in this post .. if you look at where it takes inference you must be able to skip that step or their would be no oops. And your cd key ever unlocks the game it unlocks an account on b.net .. that's why you can have multiple installs of the game because they are useless without a b.net account.
The only reason it is time-locked is to stop people installing it early
|
preordered per paying after it is delivered. what ever comes earlier gonna get my money :D
|
Woah nice! This system helps me a lot =]
|
Havent bought any mondern computer games, so I am wondering how about long will installing take? Also if it makes a diference will there be any between boxed and downloaded install time?
|
For those who are still suspicious of the site for some reason .. if you click the account button at the top right of the page it takes you to a https://beta-us.battle.net which is a secure site for login, Aftre you login if you come back to the sc2 site you will see you are logged in etc.
Phishing sites conceal their identity in links by making the url appear to be going somwhere that it isn't or on sites by adding the familiar bit at the start and hoping you won't notice the funny bit like battle.net.imhackingu.org . If you control the xxxx.com you can make any subdomain you want like yyyy.xxxx.com so the fact that there is an address like http://beta-us.battle.net isn't a problem although it would have been nice if any page you go to that requires a login was actually a https:// page. If you click the normal login on those pages its not clear it's going to https://
|
Will this download-only version be cheaper as well? I briefly scanned through the topic but I did not see any pricing on the download-only version.

Thoroughly impressed by the website. Was not expecting this. I'm really glad they made an e-Sports forum, too. This game is going to be GoTY 2010, no doubt. Hell -- could be game of the decade .

To all,
From me, it is just as the retail version. I think you can use a retail key to play it. How? Simple as they said, after installing (not before 27th July) just click Skip instead of Activate (where you will buy the license). After just Add your product key... et voila... After in the game just login with your bnet account with a SC2 license. The activate fonction (or the link they put) is only if you want to buy the key digitally.
For whether the website is legit or not, lol, I discover the website when clicking on Community from the beta in game menu... so not worry here.
The log info looks like that
I am just happy so I can use the EU key I preorder while beeing in SEA (my Parents are in France).
|
|
Erm, where?
Ladder info?
EDIT: nvm, post above!
|
I certainly hope the activation time is confirmed from net or something... or people could just go and set their computer's clocks to 27th, hell if that'd work it'd be hilarious.
Going to check which local stores will end up having it, might go for the digital though, since going back and forth would probably take more time.
|
I would do this if I hadn't already preordered a hard copy (hooray for finding old giftcards while cleaning). Love the new site though!
|
i am wondering if they are going to make a overall ladder with players with top scores....

So it checks the date from the Blizzard servers.
UPDATE: Used a packet sniffer to see what the installer does, among other things it tries to get an auth code from a file on battle.net website.
http://eu.battle.net/static/mediakey/sc2-authenticationcode-enGB.txt
Atm this only says "MSG:27/07/2010" , it will probably change on launch the with the code it requires.
In the meantime it seems the E from the .MPQE file extension stands for encrypted, as it can't be opened with any conventional MPQ viewer.
That's what I've managed to find out so far, so you won't be able to install SC2 without hacking the installer.

Too bad I have already pre-ordered this Maybe I should cancel my pre-order. Is there any benefit getting a digital copy instead of a retail copy?

i think someone (in the previous post) that the digital gets a manual too.

Anyone know how much the digital version is going to cost? I don't want to end up paying a heap of extra money for less than you get with the retail version.
|
Available to play 7/27 at 1PM EST? Screw that, I'm going for midnight release.
I hope Blizzard allows you to put in a retail CD-key and gain access to the digital download that way I'll have the game wherever I go, sort of like Steam.
|
I would rather have a box version then this. I already ordered my from UK.

^^^ SO! Since I preordered the game already, can I download this client and play it? (add the key when i get it to battle.net and not have to wait for the game to install on release)???

The top of the page states "If you are planning to buy a boxed copy from a retail store, this is not for you!", so going by that it won't work. But they might be lying to conserve bandwidth.

I assume it will be a lot like the system they have now for games, where you register the cd key with your bnet account and then you can download the game to any computer as long as you have internet access then just log in with your bnet and bam sc2 on any computer you want. interesting to see cd keys locked to accounts not computers, i love the idea means i don't have to worry about installing on multiple computers.

Should be pretty easy to build a bot to harvest everyone's info (rank, win/loss, achievements, etc). Every profile is public and the ID's in the URL are just sequential. Just change the ID to see someone else's profile. For example:
http://beta-us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/87527/1/
Change 87527 to 88888 or something and you get someone else's profile. Starts at 1. Sometimes you get a "not found" bust most of the time people pop up.
|
I did the gamestop thing so I could get a beta key, so this is not for me. (I wish I could do this though just to be able to use the awesome looking website!)

If I had some more time I'd write some programs to go harvest all the match data, that's the more interesting info to see what the win rates are...

You can't upgrade beta to retail because beta does not have any of the single player.. The retail client is 7gb.
|
Downloading as we speak
Very nice of Blizzard - I do hope it dosn't fuck up the activation on the 27th though.. 7-9-13
|
So it isn't the actual game you're downloading, just bits and pieces plus the client? Still! Data mining must commence to spoil the game before release for absolutely no good reason....other than to satiate my struggle of waiting!

Yes that's exactly what you can do, right now. All the info is there, including rating. All you have to do is harvest everyone's data with a script and sort by rating. Instant global ladder.

Pretty sure Europe and Russia are one region as well as Korea and Taiwan.
The 4 links at the top imply 4 regions, still too much fragmentation in my eyes.

The webpage accurately detects my location as Norway but for some reason suggests the German version as default. I guess it detected the fact that I am mad that the thread is stickied and that I hate web 2.0.
Do you know whether it will be possible to download this onto two different computers and just log in with the same bnet account on both of them the same way that I could with the beta? Or will the auth process not allow that?

I guess Blizz is anticipating server meltdowns on release day so they're trying to spread out to bandwidth over some weeks instead. This will help to an extent, but it's not going to solve the problem. There's no doubt in my mind that the servers will be dead on release for at least 24 hours.

For those wondering, this is the version of the release build.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/fqwiG.jpg)
These are the patch 12.1 and 13 versions:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/7mc2U.jpg)
And since the last number in pretty much any versioning system is usually the revision number in the source control system they use, this places the release build somewhere between patch 12.1 and patch 13. So, a lot of patching to do. Also, remember how good patch 13 was... I'm kinda worried

I have a question - I can't see the answer in the thread.
Will we be able to patch before 9BST on 27/7/10 (i.e. from midnight onwards)? Or will the installer/patching only work once 9BST rolls around?
If it's the former obviously digital is the right option, but if not, my CE will probably arrive around 10BST anyway.
|
|
Haha, I still want the collector's edition either way. :D
|
edit: I think I am going to get the digital copy. Alittle more easier for me handle.
|
Wait, how does this help you get the game quicker? Sure you can download it, but it says you have to wait until 10am Pacific or 1 Eastern to install. If I go out at midnight I can install it before then, right?
|
If you go get the box copy @ midnight at a store, you will have it playing before the digital copy-buyers.
|
I wouldn't be surprised if the servers aren't actually up until 1 pm est since that's when you can play the digital copy.
|
You realize the installers will be the same whether you get it digitally or physically. You just download the client, go pick up your game at midnight, enter the cd-key, install & patch, play... or you can wait until 10am pdt to purchase the cd-key from blizzard.

exactlly your just downloading the game, you still have to install it. It will be like you get home from buying the game at 10 PST. For the people who said servers may not be up till then, I really doubt it, servers will be up at midnight

I actually wonder if this is really working. Because it clearly says:" if you intend to buy a BOXED copy this is not for you." So my question: I cant download this and activate it later with my boxed version code ? Can anyone even know if it will work i wonder

yes, you can download and activate with your retail copy. It even hints at this in the FAQ.

I also think they are just trying to save some traffic on their servers (altho they use BT) by stating that it's not for ppl who are purchasing the boxed version. I can't really imagine that the installer of the "digital version" you download from bnet, and the one on the retail dvd will be too different, if any different at all, since with the leaked copy of the retail CE couple days ago (topic_id=133892), there were also screenshots floating around on the web, which showed the exact same error screen (it's not the 27th yet), when trying to install - i.e. the boxed retail needs most probably the same authentication files from the blizzard servers, and likely uses the same installer. (someone with the leaked image + the digital download version, should be able to verify this easily, I guess) You then just need a bnet account which has a valid license merged with it (which you get by either entering a key or buying an activation online, as suggested here). I'd be surprised if there's more to this.
|
looks cool, however I still prefer a boxed copy, even if it costs 5$ more than the digital. But yeah, good idea from Blizzard.
I'm guessing that this is to nudge those of us who put down $5 on their Gamestop preorders to instead buy directly from Blizzard. gg, marketing guys.
|
Lol @ all the people who are questioning legitimacy when the URL is battle.net. Come on guys, seriously
I found a site for digital download that gives you a free Starcraft 1 Battlechest key as well, so I'm gonna download from there
|
If I get hacked from this website, I will hunt you, I will find you, and I will give you the biggest wedgie of your life.

If I can simply buy it digitally and enter the key into the beta or something (kind of like how in WoW you could have the trial and then add in a cd-key to activate it) that would be very nice.

Every post this point should contain this. But doesn't the stoppage message pop up after you install? That's what I thought.
|
Just downloaded it. I hope I can just register my CD key to by blizzard store account and use the blizzard store key (if different) to install.
|
show me a screen of it installed and one of campaign mode and ill be impressed.
|
It's cracked by another person (Vernam7) I've only managed to crash the installer so far trying to get past anything
StarCraft II Wings Of Liberty Retail Digital Download, just cracked it i bypassed the "hell its not yet time to install the game issue" i WILL NOT RElease ANY crack of the retail version
|
Love this. Thanks so much. Fantastic post man.
|
any MAC users having troubles? I downloaded the MAC Client but I have an error message pop up after I open it
"There was a problem authenticating your download, please go to ...."
|
Anyhow, are all EU versions defaulting to German language? I assume I'll be able to change it at install.
|
Pic i managed to get out from the installer so far
|
oh nice, now i can buy a client for every server

downloading 7 gb in 30 minutes... god i love my internetz =)

Well i thought i'd update my progress so far for fun. Actually was pretty easy to get this "far"

I'm just going to say right now theirs no way Blizzard would make the download available so early if it contained anything other then assets and engine. They probably deleted crucial dll's so it wouldn't run without the "release day patch".
|
i hear that releasing the game's client a week or so before the release date happens with other games too
if that's true, then has there ever been a situation where people were able to hack at least part of a game before release?
|
All i really need to do is to somehow open Installer UI 2.MPQE and play. Will be working on that for few hours... ->

(play didn't work)

Why are you guys so confident that the game will be playable/installable before 10AM PST if you buy it at a store?
My guess is the stores may be opening early for no good reason. I haven't heard any info regarding the fact that servers will be up and running for activations before 10AM PST - someone post me the source of the info if they heard otherwise.
Digital copy is the same as the retail game, and retail games cannot activate until a certain time on the 27th. I bet that time is 10am and not 0 h.
Anyway that said, maybe I'm underestimating the intelligence (or communication between them and blizzard) of retail stores?
I just see it strange that they won't give keys/activation until ~10 hours after registered copies are given activation...
|
Because nothing at the Blizzard store is automated. Like you want to buy a pet or something. An actual real person gives out the codes or handles the delivery. I'm not in a big rush.

Devs had a chat at bestbuy.com and they answered the question. Servers will be up at midnight so when you get your copy you can install and play right when you get it.
|
maybe cuz they say:
Will digital copies of StarCraft II be available as soon as the game is released in stores? No. They’ll go on sale slightly later, on 27/07/2010 10:00 CEST in Europe and Russia.
u not only have to activate digital copy, but you have to purchase it. you have to wait later to purchase not to install (at least that's my rationale)

could you download the game now and use the retail cd keys? = get on faster

That is what I too would like to know T_T I doubt that they have different versions to technically once you buy the retail version, put the CD key on your battle.net account and login it should work, right?
Edit: I think someone should call Blizzard support and find out?

I'm pretty sure you can. Maybe not. Couldn't hurt to try?

We got a confirmation from the Blues in the Spanish forums about the Latin America region: http://beta-us.battle.net/sc2/es/forum/topic/16311694#3 If you wanna play the game in LA, you must use the Portuguese or Spanish clients. I guess this confirms that the region is locked with the client and to play the game in English I'll have to play in NA. That probably also goes for the boxed version of the game, you'll be locked to the region from where you bought the game.

The it is advised to buy the NA version and play in English, and be happy.

Yea i'm wondering if you can use retail cd key as well for the Digitally downloaded oo
|
I am personally certain you could use a store-bought key for the digital download version, but my question would be "why would you want to?". The install will be on the DVD, so it will take less hard drive space, plus I don't think it will install any faster from HD than from DVD, or if so, probably rather insignificant difference.

damn.. i already spent 5$ to reserve at Gamestop. Still, may download anyway and just give the reserve 5$ ticket to a friend.

The 2 MPQEs are encrypted, Blizzard will post password online on 27th

Seems like a lot of work and hard drive space. You can't just download a language pack from your battle.net account page if you speak another language? You get english and spanish packs here in n america.

Quick question. I've pre-ordered a boxed PC edition of SC2. If I also want to play on my macbook could I pre-download the mac version and then activate it with the same battle.net account that my PC version is installed to?
|
I'm not sure if this was already answered, but does anyone know how much it costs for the digital version?
I pre-ordered a copy @ ToysRUs for $55 US including tax. I'm not sure if they will ship it to me ON the 27th or BY the 27th, so I'm still contemplating whether I should cancel my pre-order and simply use the digital version method. :\
|
It's going to be $59.99 since all the other games available for digital purchase is priced the same as retail.

On. 99% certainty.
The time thing is so they don't piss of retailers, just hitting buy at 12 am 00 online, 1 quick patch, and play, right from the comfort of your house would seriously hurt their sales.

I have a feeling that launch day is going to be a bit of a laggy disaster anyways I don't think they've had a completely smooth reset yet. The first day or so of phase 2 was pretty bad, now imagine that with 100 times as many people. I'm looking forward to single player, it's probably a good idea to wait out the storm by playing through that first.
I haven't really seen a solid answer on this after skimming through a few pages: If you pre-install the digital version, and then activate it with a store-bought key, can you play before 1:00pm? Has Blizzard even elaborated on this yet?

Yes, you can do that. It even hints at this in the FAQ.
** I clicked SKIP instead of ACTIVATE – is that bad? That’s OK, just click this link and log in.
Meaning if you skipped step 3 (purchase) than you log into your bnet account to enter your cd-key or purchase the game digitally...

ok i have one huge question. My brother lives in mexico but i want to get him the us client (i live in canada) so if i buy him the boxed version, i just need to give him the cd key, then he registers it at bnet and then download the client as well from bnet and thats it? or do i still need to send him the whole box?

Pretty sure you just need to give him the cd-key then he could dl from battle.net.

This is amazing, now I'll just wait when my cdkey arrives in a hard box.
Obviously, if I had known about this site I wouldn't have even ordered a hard box. At that time there wasn't even a hint for digital licensed game. I searched Blizzard stores, internet, nothing.

Just throwing out ideas:
- Using the beta client installer to edit the retail installer
- Getting the editor to read the .MPQE files

So it would be much cheaper than in other countries (I saw 80~ $ in a topic about sc2 price in a country..).

Does anyone know if I can leave the beta installed and use that on launch day? Or will it not download all the single player stuff via the patcher?

Yes you can. In the MPQ file you can find this string which means the installer is used with both the digital version and the CD version.
IntroDiscussion1 Thanks for installing StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty! IntroDiscussion2 Before playing, you must register your StarCraft II product key with a Battle.net account. The activation process is quick and can be completed while the game is installing. IntroDiscussion3 If you purchased StarCraft II as a digital download through Battle.net or the Blizzard Store, or if you've already registered your product key, you can skip this step.

I don't think so. I believe I read on Bnet forums that you have to make a clean install to play the retail version and that the Beta version will not work.

Bashiok confirmed you can use your physical activation code on the digital version.
Once the game activation key is added to your Battle.net account and your game license is active, the option to download the client online will become available.
Please keep in mind, though, that if you try to download the game client early via the digital download option, you will want to make sure that the region of the game client you’re downloading matches the region of the game license that will be shipped to you later on. If your game license region doesn’t match the downloaded client’s region, you will not be able to login.
To clarify further, if a player purchased the North American version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty from a store on July 27, he or she would need to ensure that the digital game client downloaded is also from the appropriate region (in this example, from North America). Otherwise, that player would be unable to login until the North American game client is installed.

Would if be possible to get the digital copy for a friend? Have them download this client. I really just need to know how I would receive the authentication code. Hopefully via email that way I can just give the code to them. Or maybe they make it so as soon as you buy the official copy on the 27th they instantly lock an authentication code to the account you are signed into at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

This is because the web address changed form a beta site to the official.

Try that one out. Change region at the site itself if you need to, and then bookmark it.
Seems you can download it, but not install it yet. I thought you'd be able to install andjust have to activate it via a code.

Guess I have to preorder from the UK then.
Edit: Or does this refer only to the "big" regions EU, US, Asia?
|
i have a question also, didnt want to make a new thread for this may be anybody can help me
so, i already got my cd key (and succesfully upgraded my b-net account to scii retail) and i understand that for the moment you cant install the game because its far from the 27th. but all around the world there are those midnight sales in the night frrm the 26th to the 27th but blizzard says you can't start to buy the digital copy before 10AM / 10:00 CEST. so can you play before the 10AM may be something like 0:01 if you already own a cd key (just like wow expansions) or are you just happy to buy your copy at a midnight sale and the wait to the next day ?
p.s. yes im a nerd and i dont want to wait 10 more hours
|
You are going to be able to play at midnight.

There was a problem authenticating your download. Please go to http://www.blizzard.com/account/ to start a new download.

Edit: it works for EU, Kor, Taiwan, and everything else. I only get the error from trying to launch the US client.
Someone help plz
|
Please help me guys, I am from India but somehow the Beta key I got was an EU one. I was unable to find any gaming site that could ship the game here and hence I couldn't preorder anywhere. I am totally new to this(digital download and stuff) and I want to play on the EU server(till the time cross realm play is enabled).
If I start the download now how will I get the activation code on the 27th? Plus the mode of payment will be via Credit card right?
And the single player will be available with the download right?(now you know what I meant earlier).
Is the game size around 12GB?
Please help out a fellow SC fanatic guys.
|
I read somewhere that the EU servers will be up @ 00:00 CET, which is 3:00PM PDT on July 26, wondering if its true and Europeans can get to play SC2 earlier.

The same thing happened to me half a dozen times, I have like 5 downloader files. It continued where the last one left off every time, though. Now it's done.

I will buy the game physically on the 27th morning, but it will be the french version and I would like to play in english, so I will have to register the game on my B.net account and then download it with the english client. I fear that the download servers will be saturated. Is there a way to dl the game now in english by the links u pointed in the firs post. Cause I read it's for onlyne purchase of the game only.

can you enter your CD key later if you already preordered it? I'm so eager to play I don't even want to install it when I get the copy/

From earlier in this thread, the link to: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25969522553&pageNo=1&sid=3000#6
Game activation keys, game licenses, and game clients are all region-specific. As noted above, if your game license and installed game client regions don’t match, you won’t be able to login.
This may have just pushed me off the edge in regards to SC2. I have 3 copies of the game pre-ordered for myself - one for a best buy midnight launch, one a release-day delivery from Amazon when it was listed for $49.99, and a third being a collector's edition shipped from gamestop online for $80. I had planned to use 1 key for the NA server, 1 key for the Europe server, and 1 key for the Asian server.
It appears that, unlike during the beta, this will not be possible. This means that not only is Blizzard unable to add a simple "Gateway selection" screen that existed in SC1, but even when I am going to pay for multiple copies for multiple accounts, they add new restrictions making that more difficult.
While I am taking the time to cancel two of my pre-orders now, I am debating whether I should also take the time to just cancel my 3rd one at this point due to all the issues I have with the game. As it is, I didn't even feel compelled to play one single game during the 2nd phase of the beta, and hence may desire to buy it may be more nostalgia based than anything else at this point.

I highly doubt someone who is willing to pay for 3 copys of Starcraft would ever consider getting on their high horse to then cancel them all in protest.

If this works its great. I preoredered a german copy and wanted to download the english client as soon as possible anyways. Now I already have that client when my dvd arrives and I just have to enter the key .)

This refer only to big regions aka realms. So you will be able to register the en_GB downloaded client with your german CD KEY.
It's like the beta key's, it is realm linked. Inside a realm, use the language you want.
PS: Already canceled my UK preorder

is anyone aware of the price for the Digital Download on release? I had my preorder canceled and reorder now will mean it wont arrive on release day I imagine, so it its no more expensive digital download would be more convient.

Same price as the boxed version.

Well tbh im still confused. If i download the client now off battle.net, go to a midnight launch buy the game will i be able to use that code on the version i downloaded? so therefore ill be able to play straight away at midnight? (well if the servers are up )
|
Yes, you will be. The downloadable client is the same as the one you get on your disc. You just have to register your game with your key in your battle.net account to play.
|
So why don't they let people use the downloaded version at midnight? I guess so the retainers don't have a fit.
|
"Digital Sales start 07/27/2010 10:00 AM PDT" so if i buy it from battle.net I wont be able to play until the morning after the release? T_T

hmm..I downloaded the digital version, and when I clickon the manual button,it says you may need to install adobe acrobat, which is weird, cause I do have it installed.
Wonder if this is a problem with my download(stopped started quite often)..or do any of you have this problem?
|
I have downloaded the UK digital version. The manual works fine for me. Anyway, my advice (I'll spoil it for fans who want to discover the manual in their box)
+ Show Spoiler +Don't spend too much time to try to read it.. It's just a few pages about the bnet account and about SC/BW story. There are some artwork, but you can see them all in color on bnet site.

I dont get this error but your dl should be fine since the downloader checks the hash etc

Well, dont know whats with that installer, but I could open the file using an mpq editor, but as long as the game installs and plays okay I'm fine, hopefully it will do that on the 27th,thanks guys.
|
Hmm. I tried installing from my DVD but all I get in Win7 is a 5 sec hour glass and nothing more. No semi-dead SC2 process. I'm downloading the client instead, hopefully it'll work better. Yeah, I know you can't install it yet, though my installation didn't even start with the DVD.
edit: Woot. It worked with the DL version.
|
Could anyone please explain to me the process of activation of the game? My digital download of SC2 is 81% done right now. But to purchase and activate the game do I add SC2 to my Bnet account at 10.00 AM PDT and pay there and then wait for the activation code to be sent to me?

İ think blizzard made it pretty clear how the process works for digital sale. We are allowed to download before release and most likely we will able to install the game 27/07/2010 00:00 CEST with everyone else (retail buyers) ,BUT we wont be able to play the game until 27/07/2010 10:00 CEST ! Blizzard will open digital sales and you will buy the game by entering your account and buying it at battle.net t at 11:00 CEST.
|
the only thing that is getting opened at 10:00 CEST is the digital sale from blizzard, not the client itself. If you want to use your digital download client with your boxed cd-key at 0:01 you should be able to do it. I hope :D

Hi all,
I have ordered my digital copy for Europe and i got my cd key.
When i try installing the game (downloaded via luncher) it says that game is not released.
Will I have to wait until 10am 27 july or will I be able to install it at 0:01am 27 july ?

You have to wait till midnight 27th july.

Blizzard site says 10am cet 9am bst
But who knows, ill be up at 12 trying

This kinda reminds me of new years eve 1999-2000, when there was live coverage of the celebrations as they moved around the world with the time zones, we saw the fireworks in Sydney when it still was early in the day here. 8 1/2 hours left to midnight Oslo time now :D

I am in the Southeast Asia region but I chose the EU server to play on and I have the game available to purchase now but I am waiting for my download to finish. But wont I have to wait for the EU servers to go up to play? And does anyone have any idea when crossrealm play will be included?

if I download the digital copy, but go to midnight release, can I use the physical key I get in the box to activate the download from the digital version?
that way I can install it ahead oof time and activate it when I get home.
Any ideas?

I also want to know this. Unless they put some kind of hash mark on the downloaded installer I don't see any reason why we won't be able to add the box cd-key and install the game from our pre-downloaded version on our HDD.

I am downloading the digital version right now and am waiting to make payment till 10 AM PDT. But how do I get my validation/activation key from Blizzard?
|
I just saw the blue post....so this means that I wont be getting a digital key and the game will be added automatically. Phew..
|
"Yes, both game client types (digital and physical) possess unique game activation methods.
If a player purchases the digital game client, the player will not receive a copy of the game activation key. Instead, the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license will be added to the purchasing Battle.net account automatically. This is how World of Warcraft digital game clients function, as well.
If a player purchases the physical game client, the player will need to manually add the game activation key included in the boxed set to his or her Battle.net account. By adding the game activation key, the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty game license will be added to the Battle.net account."
That doesnt answer the question (I don't think) Can we use the downloaded client, once we get the cdkey and add it to our bnet profiles?

My digital download is there at 99% right now and is only uploading. I dont know whats the delay and why isnt it going 100%......this is extremely frustrating and scary at the same time.

you just have to make sure that your digital download and your physical copy are from the same region. you can't use a us cd key you got from the store with your eu digital download. this shouldn't really be a problem for 99% of people.

Any word yet on the pricing? Is it exactly the same as the boxed version and blizzard just makes more profit?
I've looked through this thread several times and haven't seen any response to this.

Also, the CE bonuses are tied to the only key, as opposed to extra disc-based/download stuff enabling it (right?) So one should be able to plug in their CE key into the Digital Download version and still reap the bonuses..?

I live in India and belong to the southeast asia region. But I want to play on the EU region.I am digitally purchasing the game and am there on the battlenet right now ... and they give me this warning
Game Region Warning
Retail copies sold in India (your account country) will connect to the Southeast Asia & ANZ game region.
Is this of much importance? I played the whole beta on the EU server and never had any problem. Plus the EU client is 20$ more than the US client.
Will my choice of playing on EU be a problem in the future till cross realm play is introduced?

A lot of people won't care and still buy it, after a while Blizz will then dismiss it as a lapse, and put the correct price. On the meanwhile they'll have made a few extra euros. Buy somewhere else until they correct the price, is my advice. Hopefully they'll do it soon though.

I live in Brazil, but I don't want the Portuguese sound/text since they are terrible, but I wanted to still be able to play in the Latin America servers. I want to know two things:
1- if I could download the EN version when I input my Brazilian CD-Key on battle.net (like what happens with other games, like Diablo 2, where you can chose witch language you want when downloading the game client).
2- If I can play on the Latin America servers with an English version of the game.
I sent an email to Blizzard asking exactly that, but they didn't respond yet. If anyone knows those answers please inform me, as I really want to buy the game one way or another.

Thanks, Juliano
You can download any client without being region locked. The region is locked after you purchase the CD-Key.
