Pop-up mid-game is annoying.
'Chieves themselves are nice. Plenty of stuff in there for newer players, who will need a bit of creative help, and a push in the direction of how the game's meant to be played. There's also some long term stuff, and some nice challenges for better players. Basically, this is the way achievements were meant to be done.
Also, there's two TF2 references.

The way I see it, I feel the view from the game designer's standpoint is that it simply doesn't hurt to add them. The general gamer likes to feel he or she is making some progress and to also have some direction when things get a little stale. Most of the achievements are achieved as you play the game normally, and getting some form of a "reward" is well - rewarding and fun (and obviously the amount of personal reward and fun differs between gamers). It's an explicit way to say you're progressing forward. For me, I'm certainly all for these achievements and find them fun to get as I naturally play the game.

Every1 will get that one eventually, I mean noone said you should do 1000 games as each race for 3 days, you can play a month or 3 ... and you'll have it.. anyway SC2 is going to be online for quite alot... years.

anyway. Exactly ... they only make you feel like you did something notheworthy, but in reality you didnt. So giving out tons of achievements will make kiddies go hunt for them and waste their time while trying their best, because many of them are either ridiculously stupid or achievable only through ridiculous setups which wont improve your ladder play. Now ladder play isnt the most important thing about this game, but beating up an AI will only improve your skills to a basic competitive level, because the AI isnt creative and always does the same.

Can I get achievements for my achievements please?

If you think the achievement pane is annoying. Wait till you get "X is slowing down the game" or other such notifications that used to be off to the side and fade on its own. I thought it would fade off but I had to click the x to close it.

Win 1000 games with each race (worth 20 points). What is this I don't even.
Yeah, pretty ridiculous that anyone serious about this game will eventually earn that without trying. RINDONKULUS!!!!

?
It's doubtful that anyone "serious" about the game will win 3000 1v1s with their offraces without trying.

I think thats pretty cool stuff like that this way I'll always remember this game :D + the replay of course

Just throwing it out there, I am a TERRAN MACRO MONSTER. Sadly I don't give a fuck.

i dont like achievements, they should be toggle on or off (able). edit: achievements are for wow..

I don't get the achievement 'popups' in game, so I don't know if that's a bug or if I've somehow fluked a way to turn that off.
In general though I don't mind achievements. If they don't interest you, ignore them. As long as you can turn off the in-game notifications (as somehow I have), then I don't think there's much to complain about.

But it doesn't matter dude.. You got an achievement!

I read the post, and I find it amusing that you think they suck but you wrote something somewhat constructive in regards to their presence. I'm personally not an achievement addict, but I am willing to say that popular opinion in regards to them would be the correct statement for my sentiment. They're additional fun, and I spent a few hours today doing some of the vs. Comp achievements that the original-poster admonished. They gave me a reason to try out the difficulty settings, and drive me to play multiple A.I. opponents at the same time. Without the achievement I may never have bothered, but I really enjoyed them today and it certainly adds to the overall experience.
As for the value of each achievement, I'm not sure that what they're set at now is the final verdict. Also, the real achievements, in typical fashion are the portraits. So I think it's fine that a lot of the achievements are relegated to A.I. play considering that the gravity portraits hold is far greater than achievement points.
Anyway, I enjoyed the post and hopefully they begin to grow on you as achievement did for me.

Lol, isn't it macro master? Anyways, I think I got the same one, like have units queued in 6 terran production buildings or something. When the achievement popped up, I was about to gg because my zerg opponent was ripping apart my base. A perfect moment to mindlessly queue stuff.

i agree with OP. its not like im playing Mafia Wars in BNet 2.0 to get those achievements. and i always get the thought " if Jaedong, Flash, Bisu or any other pro player would play SC2, do they need to get all those achievements to prove themselves as the best in SC2?? i dont think so..." ow and if i remember correctly, in one of the WCG Grand Finals game Stork vs Jaedong Game 2, the highest kill i saw HTs/archon did was 23 i think so how can you get 30kills with infested terran if your opponent is at your level??
|
Anyone did the achievment Win FFA against 7 insane AI opponents ? ;]
|
I got the Infested Terran-achievment in a pretty close 1v1. People are underestimating the power of burrowed infestors.
