When it says that, does it mean the whole game is being slowed down..or? I just know it happened to me once when I was playing a UMS with a ton of units.

If you dont like them, simply dont pay attention to them, its really nothing to fret about. i personally am pleased with having an achievement popping up in a ladder match for doing something without aiming for it. Its a nice surprise, and it doesnt really throw me off of my game.

Some of them are kind of fun little challenges, like the insane 7 FFA or the 1v2+ ones.

It also gives your character a certain uniqueness. Over time different players will have different achievements, which hopefully should reflect their different playing styles. Additionally if you see an achievement that you think is really hard, maybe it can give you a rough idea of an area you may need to work on. For example the "20 yamato kills in 1 game" achievement, this sounds difficult to do in my opinion, but honestly i don't use the yamato cannon nearly as much as i should (even when i've researched it). All in all there's almost no reason to dislike achievements (except for the popup). However on consoles (360 and PS3) i believe you can disable the popup so it doesn't appear. I'm sure Blizzard will follow suit and implement a settings option.

So giving out tons of achievements will make kiddies go hunt for them and waste their time while trying their best, because many of them are either ridiculously stupid or achievable only through ridiculous setups which wont improve your ladder play. Now ladder play isnt the most important thing about this game, but beating up an AI will only improve your skills to a basic competitive level, because the AI isnt creative and always does the same. Getting to the top of your ladder will make you feel like you did something noteworthy, when in reality you didn't. It's a game.

do you realize that your attitude towards given subject is not exclusive, and that people actually do treat certain things differently? There are a lot of people who play games to be competitive, improve and achieve certain goals and when they succeed, it is noteworthy.

Achievments are a praise analog, and nobody dislikes getting praise even if its for ridiculous things.

Just build on the islands on the only 8-player map there is and mass Banshees/Vikings and then go and kill the remaining AI. Pretty straightforward really.

There are a lot of things that will eventually happen in your games (Since you have to WIN 1k for certain portraits.) I think that is a good thing making the achievements more of a long term goal. Exactly!! There is nothing better then having units rush unto your siege tank conclave and get the "Meat Grinder" achievement pop up. Alot of the names are catchy, and it just gives another "extra" when you get an achievement after a nice action that leaves you even more satisfied. Killing 2 immortals in a transport, and then getting an achievement made me happy for at least one hour ![]()

In Blizzard achievements you actually have to work in order to get some of them (Zerglot, the Yamato Cannon one, Unbreakable (which I came so close to getting once), also quite a few of the World of Warcraft ones require a serious amount of work to get) whereas console achievements you will get all of them eventually so they're kinda pointless. ![]() I don't know about that...
