Just for fun example. Kid - Zergling / Zerg primary Teen -Hydra / Zerg primary 20-29 Stalker / Protoss primary 30-39 Maurader / Terran primary 40+ Battle Cruiser/ Terran primary
I think you should add age groups.. Mainly because I don't think every 25+ wants to play a teen like me

I put that in the next version which should be done tomorrow.

Lol I hate when this happens. I really try not to think about who I'm playing with(gender, age), but sometimes shit hits the fan, and the question gets asked: "How old are you?" FUUUUUUUUU
One time I was helping this guy with his ZvP/ZvT (in SC2) and it turned out I was playing a 12 y/o. I felt so damn awkward. 1st thing that went through my head was "am I too old for this game?:-(" LOL and then the "to catch a predator" commercial went through my head and I FUUUUUUUUUUUU'd some more.

Ranks don't mean anything. You could be #1 in division 324 diamond but still have only 1100 rating which wouldn't get you into the top 100 of an established division. When you change rank to rating this application may actually be usable.
|
I can see more uses for this App. We can use the results to possibly design a better ladder system as far as match-making and skill determination is concerned.

This is a very cool and very needed addition to the SC2 community, Thanks for your contribution and I cant wait to see its full success take swing once the game is out!

I'm very open to implementing a different way in which to determine skill level. In fact, this is something I'm thinking about and I hope to get some good ideas from the community like yourself.
I will be adding fields to input league, rating, number of wins and number of losses. I'll use a combination of those to determine a new rating number, however I'm still figuring out exactly how I want to do that. I'n the mean time, I just decided to create the simple 1-10 skill level. Considering the beta is down, we are sort of on the honor system with each player determining their own skill level. I do have it sectioned off so that each higher level represent a smaller percentage of players than the previous level. In other words, skill level 9 should be the top 1% of players and 10 would probably be .01% or less.
I'm all ears, I mean eyes, if someone has a good idea on how to convert Blizzard's league, rating and win/loss ratio into a better rating number. Or maybe a completely new idea on how to figure out a players relative skill level. Got an idea, toss it out there.
There are lots of ideas floating in my head that I would like to add as time goes on, so this is just the the start. I'm very open to implementing new features and changing existing features based on feedback from the users, so I encourage feedback like this.

Why would you do this? Blizzard has undoubtedly spent many hours developing their matchmaking rating system. While a player's rating may not be truthful until they've played hundreds of games, it's still far more accurate that any arbitrary combination of statistics that you could come up with.

You are right. Blizzard has put a lot of thought into their rating and matching system for ladder games. It will probably work great matching ladder players up with the larger player pool after release.
From what I understand about Blizzards system is that it may take weeks and hundreds of games for higher skilled players to hit their rating cap. However, I figure there is going to be a group of players who will spend most of their time playing custom games and not a bunch of ladder games. Using league and rating may not be a good way to measure skill level for that group of players. So what ever method is used, I would like to consider this group. as well.

V1.0b15 is live and supports age groups. There is 4 age groups (youth, teen, young adult, adult) and an option to opt out by using the unspecified age group. I can how this works if needed.
EDIT. Google is still building an index for the new version and thus it is not live yet. Sorry about that.
EDIT AGAIN. Index is done and it is now live.

And if this is the case. You know your rating is higher than you have. Just have two fields. League and Rating. If you are lowrated and you know you are higher you will just enter a higher number.
Still more accurate than "enter your skill 1-10". And best of all. Its easy to implement.

Thanks for this! This will be infinitely useful as time goes on.

V1.0b17 -added Profile Page -added League, Rating, Wins, Losses field (no search filter for these fields yet, but soon) -added field to enter iCCup, bnet WC3 and TeamLiquid users names -added Replay pack URL field
I'm planning to move the search/match listing to a separate page, unless most people like having it on the edit profile page?

1. Separate page . 2. You should give a name to this application "PP finder" or something along those lines
Also I think your concept is really really good, It just needs to get some attention. 1. Hosting a small tournament would raise more awareness. 2. Ask Husky/HD to mention it in one of their vidoes 3. Ask Day9 to mention in one of his daily's.

Thanks for the great feedback. I'll try to come up with a name as you suggest.
Definitely would like to host some causal tournaments that players can join to get a feel for playing tournaments. Sort of like a practice tournament. Ideally, I can use the schedule related code to setup automated tournaments where the system matches up players based on the players availability and previous match results.
Speaking of Day9, he drops lots of little info bits about using a practice partners in many of his dailies, but it would be great if he did a full daily discussing the fine art of being a good practice buddy and how to make practice sessions very productive. We all know the basic of what makes a good practice session, but I'm sure there are some good ideas that are not so common knowledge. A daily that has some high level players discussing their replays of practice sessions could be very insightful.

You should probably have more matches than just me. PM me your name or email address and I'll take a look at the account and see why you are not getting more matches..

I would suggest that you get it on Google Code soon! I would love to help out where I can in the development of this application. Given a bit of time to look over the code, I might be able to help out.

Help would be great, especially on the front end (css, html, javascript, jquery, json). The code is a fast moving target right now, but once it settles down, I'll put it on Google Code.
