What do I have to think of that "email BLizzard to keep your private info private" stuff?
I mean are they going to sell that info to advertisers or something? Am I going to be harrassed by tons of advertisements on the internet?
Also, why do we have to send an email? Isn't it kind of obvious that I'd rather not have them distributed?
I don't get the question regarding that, could someone explain it to me please? Should I be worried? Is Blizzard turning evil? Joining up with the already evil FAcebook? Explain please :p

He(Frank Pearce) seems so ignorant.
Loads of people within the community are wanting Looking For Group chat rooms, and that sort of thing.
Well, if we've done our job right in terms of the matchmaking service, then hopefully they won't feel like they'll need it for that service.
Of course he might just have misunderstood the purpose of chat rooms all together, he sees them more as a ways of meeting up with players of similar skill(a very crude example is a chat room only for people in diamond league, for people who just play terran and so on) when that's not really the case.
If you have a really bad internet connection, but you have a couple of friends there...
That functionality's not there. Our goal is to make sure that connectivity to the Battle.net servers is such that that's the experience that people want.
So basically if youre not on bnet you dont really wanna play sc2, is that really his stance on this. I realise this might just be the best possible answer to the question since they dont want the possibility to play the game offline for purpose of fighting piracy. Still just seems so ignorant. A better answer would be like: "Well we just havent found a way to do that without incurring the risk of making it easier to pirate the game." or something along those lines. Something that seems thought out and actually like they considered it not just "hurtedurr youre not online so you really dont wanna play the game otherwise you would have made sure to have some sort of online conn hurrrteduurr derp derp"
Oh and this is just the icing on the cake:
Plus, isn't StarCraft 2 the universal language of RTSes? How much English do you need to speak to communicate with your opponent and kick his ass? [Laughs]
Oh I dont know maybe enough understanding of english to actually be able to communicate with the person should he/she actually be someone you would like to talk to about the build they just used which totally rolled you e.g.
All in all though I understand that the current infrastructure regarding the internet between continents isnt perhaps all it needs to be to actually facilitate the kind of speed bnet 2.0 needs(or whatever). But something just seems kind of off about this frank pearce and he seems to hold alot of weight. Here's to hope that he actually doesnt interfer with the development of bnet 2.0 since having him on a project actually doesnt seem like a good idea(I'm totally unaware of what he actually does in the company besides his position as a senoir VP).
I dont mean to come of as whiny or dissing frank pearche but reading this interview he just got to me and I see quite alot in his answers that I've heard from others whom might not be the best possible people(not bad just not that great). My two cents.

Sometimes I really wonder wtf is going on with their community team... seriously, in other threads you will see me as a huge Blizzard defender, but this is just bullshit. Blatantly claiming that the community doesn't really want chat channels when EVERYBODY on EVERY forum is screaming: "GIVE US CHAT CAHNNELS WTF" is just blatantly retarded.

They clearly care about the sales and nothing else. Every feature costs money and if it doesn't bring enough sales, it's just a waste of money to them, hence "Do you really want chat channels?".
Obviously, they see most Starcraft BW fans will buy the game even if it remains in its current state, so why bother improving it? Vote with your wallet, people! I won't buy the game until they fix some of these problems (if they ever do).

This is really a punch to the gut.

Does anyone believe they are actually trying to help esports in any way at this point? its a joke. Plus all the features just regular gamers want, jesus this is dumb

Instead of whining about it do something and refuse to buy this crap. Pre-order cancelled I'll wait for an alternative .

WTF IS BLIZZARD THINKING?! They made SO many games that involve meeting NEW players and making NEW friends with people in the community. I've met so many of my online friends via chat channels that you just happen to bump into and decide to make a game together. What about the people that don't have friends on facebook that play SC2? What will they do? I just don't understand this move by Blizzard to hesitate the implementation of chat channels. This is how people find new people to play with. Why is this so hard to understand? What would WoW do without a chat system? Come on Blizzard. Don't be stupid and add chat channels. It's not hard at all.
|
I actually thought this was a joke at first because of how obviously bad a lot of these decisions are. What is Blizzard even thinking with these ideas? Their policy on chat rooms, cross-region play, lan and weird ToS makes me worried.

Sux, but it´s rly the only option Blizz will care about -.-

I went ahead and made a topic on their forums complaining about all of this, i think we should all make more threads on their forums about how bnet is failing maybe then they will listen -_-
|
reading this seems so unreal, it just makes absolutely no sense why they would do all that. let's hope the game gets how it's supposed to be in a year or two, then I might as well wait for the battle chest edition rather than buying the alpha version that comes out in two month.
|
Well hopefully all those who hate this and decide not to buy the game, will refrain from posting in the sc2 forums.
Yeah I usually defend Blizzard, this interview was terrible and I still cannot grasp the fact the dialogue was absolutely written as if it was done over text messages.
|
I actually thing all of this doesn't matter that much because when sc2 comes out Im sure Iccup or some other program will just modify the game to allow chatrooms, lan, and whatever else is missing.
|
Wow, can't believe this interview. Is the Asia server or some other community vehemently opposed to chat channels or something? What kind of feedback are they basing this off of, I'm so confused.
|
Another thing I thought you'd promised was chat rooms within Battle.net...
Nope. No plans for specific chat rooms at this time. You'll be able to open up chats direct with your friends, and when we add clans and groups there'll be chats for your clans and groups, but no specific plans for chat rooms right now. Do you really want chat rooms?

This guy need to be fired seriously, how can he be THIS dumb.

I really feel fucked by Blizzard, as an Australian.

This entire interview reads like a fucking joke. I couldn't do a worse job of community relations if I tried, and I work in community relations (and used to work in e-sports).
I actually thought this was fake when I first read it. What the hell are they thinking?
