Yeah it's pretty insane what this program can do. So many functions. :D

@Dakota_Fanning
Are you working on that project alone and do you get something out of it other than some donations?

I'm working on it alone, and no, I don't get anything else for it (except some rare donations).

Read this page, it shall tell you everything: Sc2gears Private Video Streaming

In short: Sc2gears broadcasts the stream to all clients who can view your stream from a browser. You have full control over the streaming parameters. The stream web page does not require any plugins, clients can even view the stream from cell phones.

In case of justin tv and xsplit you have to register in a central service, you have to download and install a streaming client software which sends the stream to their central servers which are responsible to broadcast the stream to clients, meanwhile placing ads on it, requiring subscriptions etc. Their streaming web page usually requires a plugin (like Flash), so their use is limited.

I get like 30 frames ingame when I stream with xsplit. Does this have any chance to increase frames while streaming as compared to xsplit?

This is really cool, and I'm quite amazed by what you're doing.

I'm curious though, why is it you're implementing a Streaming feature? It could really change things, but isn't this the sort of project that would require more resources than just a (albeit quite skilled) one-man-team? Could you explain what your reasoning for this is, and how you would reply to the claim "you're looking to challenge the fully-functional, satisfactory services provided by other free streaming providers"?

No, probably not. Although in cases when xsplit is not able to produce 30 FPS, you can lower quality in Sc2gears to give higher FPS values...

"When Private streaming is started, your computer will broadcast the stream to all clients. I've implemented a specialized HTTP server for this purpose. Clients can view the video stream from any browser. The client interface (which is a web page) does not require any plugins (not even Flash plugin), which means clients can start viewing the stream from ANY platform, even from CELL PHONES!"

:O

I look forward to using this.

Those "fully-functional, satisfactory" services exist for quite some time now, yet not everyone who would like to stream uses them...
They are often not trivial to setup and use. The streaming feature in Sc2gears literally can be started with one click. Another reason can be not everyone wants to run 10 supplementary software while playing Starcraft II. Also many of those cannot be viewed on all platforms (like cell phones). Sc2gears streaming solves this problem.

This streaming feature does not want to be a replacement or a contender to the streaming services, as this is unique and different in many aspects. Sc2gears streaming will never replace a service where there are many (tens, hundreds or thousands of) clients, since in this case the streaming server is your computer. This is more like a private video streaming feature (exactly what its name states) to share your screen or activity with your friend(s).
If you want to show something to your friend, let's say how to setup Sc2gears or how to analyze your games, you would not register on twitch and download their client, install it etc. just so you can show your live action to your friend. With Sc2gears, you just click once, send the link to your friend, and your goal is achieved.

As to "would require more resources than just a one-man-team": I'd say Sc2gears itself (including the Sc2gears Database, Parsing service etc.) without the video streaming feature is also more than a one-man job (bigger than the feature in question), yet I think it's doing okay.

I can, but what do you mean? Custom text? Custom image? Or just covered areas?

Everything from custom text (for displaying a score) over custom image (for a new UI, or at least sponsor images) up to a webcam overlay.

thanks for everything ♥

The video encoding is optimized for pictures and not for text. So if you stream your OS windows, you might find a certain video size+image quality bad, but if you stream an SC2 game or a movie with the same parameters, you will find it a lot less disturbing.

I wonder how widespread this program is. You think KeSPA teams use it to quickly analyze their games to decrease the time it would take to improve? Are there any equalivalents to this in places where TL is not as well know?

Dakota should be hired by Blizzard to get access to more game info and really make it the official analyzing tool. Or at least give Dakota a feat of strength achievement. Maybe even a portrait of Dakota Fanning in a Ghost outfit.
